I used to think there was something wrong with me, im 38 years old, I have a decent well paid job, and I own my own house. Also this is something that’s very common in people who had parents that only met their children’s emotional (or physical) needs when they achieve something. I noticed people like her, have families that value accomplishments & success in career, some families to such a degree that even in spite of their physical health they will be working. Which then creates a mind set in someone that attaches their self worth to what they achieve or do. It’s common for most people, men & women. I agree, likely because I come from that very family you described. The difference is I was lucky enough to find role models in friends, literal strangers I've met in public, and even online personalities like Aba and Preach. They've honestly taught me so much about what things are good to value, and as you said, helped me get rid of pain that I'd been holding onto for years, just from hearing a different perspective that I'd never even think of in a million years. Having said all that, that still doesn't mean she can't or shouldn't take accountability. Doesn't matter if she's saying this stuff out of past trauma, whether she realises it's that or not. She will have to deal with that first, whether on her own or with outside help like therapy/advice from friends and family members, but she needs to help herself before she can start thinking about helping others. I'm glad you guys called out the ambition thing for women. I think men generally want to see caring women much more than ambitious women. I think it's important for everyone to have goals in their lives that they are driven to achieve but so many focus solely on the career and money aspect. There's much more to pursue in life than that. As a woman I feel like there's nothing more important than pursuing understanding, kindness, and compassion. And it's true that men look for that in women. They want to know that, if they are going to be with and potentially marry a women, take care of her, have children with her, then they want her to be able to take care of him as well. I think you can learn a lot about men and women in the dating scene by who their friends are and how they treat them. Do they respect them? Do they provide emotional support for them? Are they reliable during difficult times? How are their relationships with their family? Once you know the answer to those questions you can easily learn if they are going to be good to you as a partner. Maybe not always...some people compartmentalize these things and feel much more entitled in romantic relationships than platonic ones.

As a woman in medicine, I’m around many people who have $$$ but poor psychosocial development, like this woman. Personally, I’ve found working your ass off to be in such a career can often mean giving up the time all these humble earners this woman is tearing down have to develop themselves mentally, emotionally and spiritually. A lot of my coworkers would be horrific to date, and I personally would never date another physician as a result! I’ve been lucky enough to have friends in less demanding careers, and lately, I’ve really found the social epiphanies I’ve been having, they had long ago. There was no way I could work on my psychosocial development the way they did when I spent 13+ years studying 18 hrs/day. So while I can’t claim it is directly correlated, anecdotally speaking, I can definitely see why these “less (financially) valuable” women (or men) she is putting down do a lot better in the dating world.

You could ask them anything concerning treatment and they'd have an answer, but go off script about some other part of life and break the machine. It's a heavy cost to go through med school in a variety of ways.
I'm considering starting a farm sometime around when I'm already settled and retired, peacefully safe, and calm quiet from everything else. It's what my late grandfather did after he came back from WWII and got married to my late grandmother.

I'm glad you guys called out the ambition thing for women. I think men generally want to see caring women much more than ambitious women. I think it's important for everyone to have goals in their lives that they are driven to achieve but so many focus solely on the career and money aspect. There's much more to pursue in life than that. As a woman I feel like there's nothing more important than pursuing understanding, kindness, and compassion. And it's true that men look for that in women. They want to know that, if they are going to be with and potentially marry a women, take care of her, have children with her, then they want her to be able to take care of him as well. I think you can learn a lot about men and women in the dating scene by who their friends are and how they treat them. Do they respect them? Do they provide emotional support for them? Are they reliable during difficult times? How are their relationships with their family? Once you know the answer to those questions you can easily learn if they are going to be good to you as a partner. Maybe not always...some people compartmentalize these things and feel much more entitled in romantic relationships than platonic ones.

I’ve been lucky enough to have friends in less demanding careers, and lately, I’ve really found the social epiphanies I’ve been having, they had long ago. There was no way I could work on my psychosocial development the way they did when I spent 13+ years studying 18 hrs/day. So while I can’t claim it is directly correlated, anecdotally speaking, I can definitely see why these “less (financially) valuable” women (or men) she is putting down do a lot better in the dating world.

That’s interesting. I was in a circumstance a few years ago where my social circle crossed paths with doctors in different specialties. I noticed that even if good hearted they seemed socially stunted. Your insight clears that up for me-you’re so right, there are no shortcuts to maturity in any area.

You nailed it. I used to work in a teaching hospital that had plenty of young physicians. You could ask them anything concerning treatment and they'd have an answer, but go off script about some other part of life and break the machine.
It's a heavy cost to go through med school in a variety of ways.

I'm considering starting a farm sometime around when I'm already settled and retired, peacefully safe, and calm quiet from everything else. It's what my late grandfather did after he came back from WWII and got married to my late grandmother.

Bc there are folks that will equate that to "broke folk lingo" as if they were never financially successful and they dont know the finer "things" in life and dont know any better, or trying to justify their shortcomings and just "settling for less." It might be true for some thirsty mfs but theres genuinely ppl out there who really just want that simple, but genuine connection.
