    Second question, how to determine the diameter of the steel bar? How did you come up with the 0.5inches as half of the diameter of the bar? Thank you

    • @EngineerBoyOfficial
      @EngineerBoyOfficial  Před 6 lety +1

      Steel bars are available with different diameter..the diameter of steel bar is always written on its end....
      I have assumed 1 inch dia so its half should be 0.5 inch

    • @davidr2943
      @davidr2943 Před 4 lety

      #3 bar = 3/8" dia, #4 bar = 4/8" or 1/2" dia, #5 bar = 5/8"... etc.
      Basically, an 1/8" for every No (#) of bar is the diameter. That is probably the explanation you were looking for a year ago. :)

      hello. 1st thank you for joining sl khan.
      2nd its easy to do this using calculator. here is the process .
      do each part separately like first do the portion of (1-(0.012)(60)/(1.7)(4) )
      then do multiply with 0.9(0.012)(60) you will get answer. thank divide 3000 by same answer....

    Why don't we check if the concrete can handle the pressure? So the tension that the steel needs to withstand is equal to the pressure at the top of the beam. How do we know that the beam will hold the pressure if we only calculated steel needed for the tension? Thanks!
