Hi, looks wonderful. Can I ask about the blue circle light that you use. Is that a heating device of some sort and how long do you keep it running? Thanks a lot Alan
Hi Alan, nowhere near as technical I’m afraid pal. The blue light, is actually a white LED light and nothing more, it’s only there is so I can see inside the vase. The flood coats cured naturally overnight with the lathe spinning at 50 RPM, I would guess for about 12 hours. The weather was pretty cold so then I bought them inside and left each coat for 2 days before it had cured enough to touch. Hope that helps pal and a portable heater is a pretty good idea 👍 thanks for watching. 😊
Thanks so much, thats great. Sent you an email as well so just ignore pal. One last question please. As the flood coats are allowed to dry you sand down each time to get a bond? You don't apply subsequent coats to a tacky surface. Thanks Alan @@tendring_woodturning
@alanhutchison8765 yes mate, I went back to 400 grit but believe you can go lower. Takes a bit of patience flood coating just to warn you but the finish is great. 👍😊. Saw the email and responded back pal 😊
Thanks Will, believe me I know about getting a nice coating finish. Been trying for weeks but things are improving. I do have a wooden insulated box with a small dimplex heater in and a rotisserie motor which cuts down curing to about 5-6 hours. I will try on the lathe but always though it to be too fast. I use the same resin as you. If its ok Ill let you know how I get on. Thanks for all your help. Alan
@@tendring_woodturning
@alanhutchison8765 yeah it is on the quick side I must admit. I know of people that have converted their lathe with a slower motor. Slowest my lathe goes to is 50 rpm and while it’s been ok it could really do with half that speed.
Interested to see how you get on! 😊
Do you have a page to follow? 👍
@tendring_woodturning Did you use standard carbide tools or the negative bevel?
Negative rake pal. Although I recall swapping to a normal carbide for hollowing out the mass, always finishing with negative rake to avoid chip out of the resin. Hope that helps pal and have a great Christmas. 😊👍
Nice work! What is the laser system you are using called. It’s time for an upgrade for me 😂
Thanks very much, appreciate the comment and thanks for watching. It’s a Hope easy arm with laser, let me know if you need a link. Have a great Christmas 👍😊
Красота👍🔥🔥
Много благодаря 🙂
Can i ask why you didnt use a plug instead of having to waste loads 😊
Sure, and my honest answer is that I never dreamt it would take so much resin combined with the large lumps of elm offcuts I had. I massive underestimated this, lesson learned. Thanks for watching and happy holidays. 😊👍
@@tendring_woodturning we all live and learn 👍👍👍
@@vinimarshall7301 yup, every days a school day. 😊
what is the ultraviolet light epoxy that you used?
Hi pal, it’s from Let’s Resin, it’s the hard type UV resin (they do 2 kinds). Shout if you need a link and thanks for watching. 😊👍
Did you stabilize those shells before turning them or no?
No pal, the mallee burl from my supplier is ready to work. Thanks for watching. 😊👍

just curious ...vaccum or pressure chamber...
Hi John, thanks for reaching out. I’ve got both but can confirm this project was cured in a pressure pot. Hope that helps and reach out if there’s any questions pal. 😊😊
What y use pressure po my or vacuum
Hi 👋, a pressure pot compresses the air within the resin so bubbles can be seen by the naked eye. A vacuum chamber pulls the air out of the resin and anything else in the pot. It’s used mainly for stabilising materials. Does that help? 😊
@@tendring_woodturning is which one y use
@@user-br9dt1my5m this one is cast then put in a pressure pot. There was a couple of small voids but it was easily filled with a bit of ultra violet resin. Hope that helps pal? 👍😊
@@tendring_woodturning so you pot the epoxy in then put in pot to dry
@@user-br9dt1my5m yes pal, cast the resin. Put it in the pressure pot and pressurise to 50-55 psi and let it cure. If you use deep cast resin it’s generally 3 days to cure. Hope that helps pal? 😊👍
HAHA!did i just catch glimpse of a middle finger in the reflection in the last 10-15 secs of the video? Or am i buggin??

Thanks very much and to be honest if you were to buy a piece of wood that big it’ll cost you more. 😜😊
Лентяй. Не нужно сверху заливать смолой. Просто дойти до 320 грид ,а потом сверху глянцевым лаком. А вот уже лак полировать с 800 до 3000

Wow one more plastic vase. There are so many videos about plastic turning vases on this platform. You dont have to be very skilled for that. Its a not art to mix plastic with some wood. And just because it has some shiny finish it doesnt look good.
Not a resin fan then pal?
Also vases. Mabe you can turn a trashcan and put them in there.
And then fill the trashcan with resin and turn a vase again. That would be art. Also funny

Is epoxy dangerous?
Long term.
Being serious.
I'm sure those who work with it well say it's safe.
It is a chemical after all.
Hi and thanks for watching. Epoxy isn’t good for you without the correct safety equipment that’s for sure. Correct breathing apparatus for fumes is necessary in its pre-cured state, and after when wood turning as the dust.
Once cured resin is inert. Hope that helps? 😊
