To my mind, relationship between Mrs Kim and Lane is so much better and healthier than Lorelai and Rory's relationship in later seasons. Once they cleared the air, Mrs Kim was so supportive and I loved that she cared if Zack was the right choice for Lane in terms of him being a good musician.
Marta Dziewicka I wouldn’t even qualify it with “later seasons” tbh. While Lane hid *a lot* from her mother when she was a teen, her mother instilled some fantastic qualities in her and fought for her to be the best she could be. She may have been insanely strict, but she didn’t spoil Lane or nurture her immaturity like Lorelai always did with Rory. Once Lane was an adult, they were able to have a slightly more relaxed relationship, but while she was raising her, Ms. Kim wanted Lane to fear her in a way that I think is healthy for a child to fear their parents. The whole best friends with my underage kid thing just doesn’t seem healthy to me at all.
Really dissliked Mrs. Kim at first. She was so awful to Lane sometimes. But when she mellowed out later she was awesome. And it's always nice to have your parents be happy for you even if you aren't in the most ideal living situation.
Honestly as the later seasons went by you could see how much healthier Lanes relationship with Mrs Kim was than Rory and Lorelai’s. Like Mrs Kim was definitely strict as hell but she raised Lane well and over time they developed a stronger bond. Rory and Lorelai were always way too codependent and had zero boundaries with each other. Mrs Kim was defo a hardass but behaved more like a parent should.
I think Mrs. Kim calmed down on later seasons because Lane became an adult and Mrs. Kim realized her job as a mom was done and it was up to her daughter to make her own decisions.
I'm honestly surprised she never got a spin off show. Lane and Zack as so relatable as a modern couple. They come from different backgrounds, their families are complicated but still loving, their now struggling parents with an overbearing mother in law. The comedy writes itself with the wholesomeness!
I just realized, after watching this scene plenty of times, when Zach says the name of the food, it essentially sounds like "my own dung".... hahah Mrs Kim never caught it, but Lane did for a minute there.
This episode cemented my adoration between Mrs KIm and Lane right here. They've had their share of ups and down but this moment here together makes it all worth while. Its beautiful!
Me too but then I remember that The O.C. just wouldn't be the same if Adam Brody wasn't SETH FREAKING COHEN!! & Honestly Zack was really sweet & back to this video I just love how he thought Mrs Kim was gonna hit her & tried to get her to hit him insted!
Like any parent-child relationship, the kids will say no but because they love, care and respect their parent(s) they’ll try to let their parents “down” in a easy way and as gently as possible. 😂 At least that’s how it was with me and my parents and what I’ve seen with my friends and theirs. And that’s what it looked like in this scene; like Lane was trying to figure out how to tell her mom they weren’t gonna move in just right after getting her Mom excited and proud that she was gonna be a grandmother. But then Zack just agreed to it. 😂😂😂
@@mexicanjl9703 every parents and child is difference they can say no to their parents at times. Who said they have to what their wanted. Just because you and parents are like that doesn't mean Lane has to be like that to her mom. I said no plenty of times to my parents growing up its okay.
I love Mrs Kim. She reminds me of my mother in law so much. Looked similar and acted similar and when i first met her i felt like Zack but she was such a good woman and i miss her RIP
I mean why would she be upset. She already approved of them getting married even tho (Zack isn't Korean) so of course she would be happy about having grandchildren. 😂😂😂Mrs.Kim wasn't strict just to make Land's life miserable she was strict because if her religion and her culture.
I found Mrs. Kim inexplicable when I first watched as a white teenager. The more I’ve learned about Korean family dynamics though the more I understand. There are many stories of Korean parents who move to America for a different life yet are still traumatized by behaviors of their parents and societies, inflicting them on their children too. But I can think of just as many stories about the parents realizing there is a better way to interact with their children and they change drastically for the better. The dynamic between Lane and her mother is really common and just as common to see the parent softening up as time goes on because they love their children so much.
Yeah she would have reacted the same way as Richard and Emily about Lorelai's pregnancy with Rory. This is exactly why Lane as a religious Korean chose to wait until she's married to have sex, and it's good thing she did given her pregnancy
Ha ha this scene is hilarious and i love Zack he's adorable 😍😍😍😍 my favourite of all boys Lane dated they're meant to be and i think Mrs. Kim always knows i love her change and how she helpe them to be together
It's funny how fans wants to change Lane so much. Lane didn't want anything different or do any classes. She was fine how she is why change something that happened 20 years again. I never saw Lane complain about her life.
I agree with the others. I liked it better when Mrs. Kim mellowed out a little bit. I can see how impossible it would be to move in with Mrs. Kim but the guy is a musician which means he isnt going to make shit for money and when he is making money then its going to be traveling and its going to be in the evenings and weekends and there are going to be girl groupies. Women who date musicians are nutz...wacko...unless their classical but there isnt much money in classical. Lets face it. A musician is not a 9-5 job and being around liquor, drugs, groupies, evenings and weekends are not a recipe for a happy marriage/home life. Its probably one of the worst professions to marry. All entertainment and sports, an infinitesimally small group of people make big money...but most are stuck in the lower rungs where the money is modest...the work is transient and hard...and to be honest to live a life in perpetual instability and insecurity surrounded by temptation plays with the mind...and its fine when your young...you have the stamina and the looks and you get all that positive feedback from the audience but wait until the youth starts to wane...and your mature in your 40s...and 50s...when your not going to want to be a nightowl...and not going to want to live on a bus or travel constantly...wait until you mature and you want that soft recliner and that regular routine...the comfort of consistency and security and stability no matter how modest. Lane thinks things are tough being a young struggling artist...wait a few years...when he is still a struggling artist and Lane has to go out to be the breadwinner.
Yes, getting married and having babies is totally having your life ruined. I don't even think they invented that until a few years ago because it was just so horrid.
Yes, getting married and having unwanted babies at 20 IS ruining your life. Sorry you were raised to think that's desirable over a college education and career.
Why does everything have to be a contest. A college education and a career is a fine choice. So, is getting married and having a family. The babies were unplanned, not unwanted. Huge difference. And, I don't think Lane was all that into college in the first place. Didn't she drop out to join a band?
I like how soft Mrs. Kim turned in later seasons. Like she began caring for her daughter's life choices and band
Lane is same like her mother without religion fanatism. Mrs Kim was also musician.

Because Lane was honest and respected her mother, she didn't treat her mother with Disadain the way Lorelai treats Emily.
Lane is probably the only character in the world that I liked everyone she dated
It because Lane has good taste in guys.
Well, she only had two (normal!) boyfriends, Dave and Zack. 😉
