      It would be more satisfying if Lorelai didn't do the thing she always does, which is - even when Rory is getting _rightfully_ upbraided for something she herself disapproves of - she leaps to Rory's defense the minute anyone questions her precious princess.

      I think the adults around Rory did her a real disservice by constantly telling her how special she was. People who are convinced they are exceptional get rattled when they find out that they too can fail. Might have been better to let Rory know that she should nurture her gifts, accept her shortcomings, and just do the best she can.

    No because this Friday night dinner was the best one out of all of them imo simply because of how well they depicted family. They all delivered exceptional performances in this, and the camera work perfectly captured the sequence of events, from the rapid movement to try and help us keep up with who’s speaking to the harsh cuts that show you everything in between. It honestly felt so realistic. Sometimes, you’ll gossip about other people and laugh. Moments later, you’ll be at each other’s throats and not agreeing with one another’s beliefs as you cry while sharing your ideas… and sometimes, you’ll end up just sitting there in silence, not knowing what to say anymore and trying to process everything because you shared everything on your mind… but they’re still your family, and you love them unconditionally despite the hardships you faced together, even if you don’t know how to show it because it’s moments like this where you realize that if all else fails, you’ll still have a place to go to where you feel your most comfortable to express yourself freely because other people might not be able to understand you or talk in the same way as you. This scene is my definition of what family is: Thoughtful chaos. Underneath all that chaos in family dynamics, you can often find deep connections, shared values, a sense of belonging, growth, learning, clarity, and resilience to further establish your relationship and go through life, which is honestly very rewarding and therapeutic when you have a deeply layered and complex system as dysfunctional and as passionate as this. This is also my favorite scene of the whole show in general because it’s like a summary/culmination of everything! If you wanted to describe this show, just watch this scene because it’s the essence and talks about literally everything while perfectly describing the Gilmore family! Also, literally everyone was in the wrong in this because all four of them blew it way out of proportion, which completey ruined and destroyed their family image. If you think about it hard enough, this show is mainly about how they want to present themselves to the world while trying to make it, but they’ve all failed on numerous occasions by trying to believe that they’re better than anyone and anything, when in reality, they’re just like everyone else. A mess. No one has it figured out because there will always be something that pushes us back so we could move forward while continuing to go through the motions. The highs and lows will eventually begin to blur because you end up creating your identity in the midst of everything.

It's kind of a show for nerdy critical thinkers. From teen pregnancy to single motherhood and classism, GG was always slightly deeper and more organic than the other 90's "pretty white kids with problems" teen dramas. Fantastic clip.

    All this because Rory wanted to take some time off of school. College students do that all the time; rory has been working her ass off ,academically, for years, and she's allowed to take time to live outside of homework. I don't think she should have done it cause some man gave her bad advice, but that's the real world deal with it. Lorelai acts so morally superior to her parents, but in this case, she is just like them. Her daughter does something she doesn't like and overreacts goes behind her back to manipulate the situation and cuts her out when she doesn't bend the knee. Even though she's an adult now and should be able to make decisions(good or bad) for herself. That's how you learn. But lorelai is so busy projecting her insecurities on rory that she doesn't get she's becoming her mother.

    • @Darkntwisty88
      @Darkntwisty88 Před 14 dny +7

      Whaaaattt? It is absolutely your prerogative as a parent to call your kid out when they are being a dumba$$. Whether they listen or not is up to them. That being said, Rory has the right to take a break if she pleases. What she does NOT have the right to do, is have everyone else foot the bill for her life while she does it. If she’s grown enough to decide to take time off, she is grown enough to work and sort out her expenses while she takes that time. Lorelei was asking for support from her parents, so that they could make Rory feel the full weight of her decision. That is totally understandable.
      Rory didn’t get her way with Lorelei so she went running to her grandparents, and that’s why Lorelei gave them all the cold shoulder. Petty, maybe. Understandable, absolutely.

    • @Hollyberrystreats
      @Hollyberrystreats Před 11 dny +5

      Right? People take years off all the time, people change their major multiple times. Being unsure of your future is reasonable at every point of life. Lorelei was so proud of not, as Rory said, 'putting her on the Ivy League conveyor belt' but whenever it looked like Rory wanted to deviate from or question the Rory life plan they presumably decided on when Rory was six Lorelei absolutely could not handle it!

    • @draeblack5665
      @draeblack5665 Před 11 dny +1

      @Darkntwisty88 with what work experience? Rory spent her whole life in school thinking academics was the only way forward. When she figured out the world doesn't care about your GPA, she panicked and had to figure out her next steps. She had very little work experience, and she was going through an emotional fork in the road, which most people go through, especially college students she went to her best friend( mom) for support and a kind ear and yes a parent has the right to voice an opinion but not judge and demand that your grown daughter go the path you've decided for her(just like Emily did to her over and over) she should have went no contact with her toxic parents years ago and this betrayal was terrible but she had no right to go to them in the first place and manipulate rory"s life behind the scenes (just like Emily did all the time) if rory wanted to take time off that is her prerogative and since lorelai didn't approve and wouldn't let her temporarily move back home where she could have have easily got a job ( the inn, Luke's. Miss Patty's, the market) no rory had no right to have any flip the bill for her decisions but what choice did she have? We all give rory crap for having rich grandparents but we all know if given the chance, when those dark days come, and we would gladly let someone else take the wheel and steer cause you just cant make one more bad decision. She went to her grandparents because they offered her a place to stay, a job, and support who wouldn't want that at 20 yrs old.

      @guadalupeortega5742 Před 11 dny +4

      Rory wanted to drop off from Yale bc Mitchum didn’t sugar coat his criticism and she didn’t know how to cope with it. Lorelai was absolutely in the right to call Rory out. Yes, college kids take breaks all the time but Rory’s reason was arguably dumb and highlighted her privilege. College students take breaks all the time but most don’t have pool houses and trust funds to fall on. The minute that Rory felt uncomfortable in her major, she rushed into her place of comfort (grandpa’s money) and then rushed to her father when her grandparents began adding rules and stipulations. Lorelai recognized this and tried to parent her out of it.

    • @sainnn14
      @sainnn14 Před 9 dny +2

      Well, Rory went back to yale because of jess and his wakeup call that's why we are calling it a break! Initially the plan was to drop out for her. That might work out for many people and that's fine but for someone like Rory who's so much into academia, books, grades, etc, it felt like a cop out due to inability of handling criticism.
      To paraphrase the golden words of Paris, what was the plan learning to drive a forklift?!
