  • This is the first magazine I ever have fail due to being stored full of ammo. The spring seemed to loose its tension and well things happen.
    I wanted to share this in case others encounter the same issue.

    I have a BX25x2 "jungle mag" that I had fully loaded with 50 rounds, laying in the tool box of my pickup for the better part of 5 years. Apparently when I took my rifle into the house, I forgot to grab and take this mag into the house too, and unload it(the mag). Now this mag is doing the exact same thing yours is doing. Load both sides to capacity, and the first 5 to 10 rounds are pesky, but the last 15 to 20 run fine. Not too bummed though, as I was never a big fan of how awkward these BX25x2 mags feel. I already own 10 regular BX25 mags and about a dozen of the BX1 mags that work fine. With some Google searching I wasn't able to find anything to where anyone makes a heavier and more durable aftermarket follower spring for these BX25 mags. One of these days I'll sit down, take apart my mag that's got the shot springs, to see if I can come up with a different and better spring for it.

      I have not gone target shooting in a long time but these mags are the worse ones I ever owned. I have 5.56, 7.62 and 9mm 30rd mags and none have failed like these BX. I dont remember how many of these bx25 I own but will later look into finding some springs for them as well. I have all the BX loaded with about 15 to 20 rounds.

      @@cutweldngrind Upon further research, I've discovered, like you're doing, is what most people are recommending on forums. If you keep them loaded, don't load them to capacity. For me, I only use the BX25 mags for range plinking. If I go into the woods hunting, I use the flush BX1 mags to avoid the mag always snagging on brush and low hanging tree branches. Also, along with the little 10/22 Takedown I keep in an emergency bag in my vehicle, I have BX1 mags, because those have been proven to be a lot more reliable, and as a bonus, the BX1 mags are a lot more compact. I can store 5 to 6 BX1 mags in the same space that 1 BX25 takes up.

      @@srbontrager I have 2 Ruger 10-22s, one is a 1980s and the other the 50 year edition both wooden stocks. I have shot both with the stock magazines and never 1 issue. My wife had never been target shotting and I placed several clay pigeons on the range and she did not miss any. These rifles are really fun shooters and accurate. I tried handing her my VZ2008 which is chambered in 7.62x39 but instead asked for another mag for the 10-22. I had also purchased another brand of mags for the 10-22 but it was freaking hard to load as if the spring was to hard to compress. I own 8 acres but have never hunted on it but planned on getting some nice game cameras to see the wild life.

      @@cutweldngrind I had one of those 50th anniversary edition 10/22 as well, but mine had the black polymer stock. It was my first 10/22 I purchased. Like a complete idiot, I sold it soon after I bought it, because I had bought a 10/22 takedown. Only paid like $220 something for the 50th anv rifle. Now if you're wanting a 50th anniversary edition, I've seen these go for over $400.

      All my BX-25 went bad after a few months of storage. I took a few to the range and loaded around 18 rnds and still jammed on me. I think the springs are very cheap on these. I have a few 10 rnd for my new and old 10/22 and those are awesome.

    My bx 25s require to be torn down and cleaned ever 1250 rounds. .22 blows a lot of carbon into the mags and gums them up just like this

    That's strange springs normally don't fail being stored compressed it's the loading and unloading or cycling up and down that weakens springs. Thanks for sharing the issues.

      Its not a compressed coil spring it's an unwound clock spring and not a very good one.

    The 25 round mags are just garbage all the way around. Stupid expensive and stupid oversized, I have several and only a few are anywhere close to reliable. Surely it would be possible to engineer a magazine that works.....

    • @cutweldngrind
      @cutweldngrind  Před rokem

      They may work best as a boomerang than a magazine. I agree it was a waste of money, most the springs went out on them.
