UK Parliament: From Sam Carling to Nadia Whittome, Britain's Gen Z MPs get sworn in

  • The UK Parliament welcomed this week an influx of Generation Z lawmakers, a cohort comprising individuals born between approximately 1995 and 2012. Nine of the ten new Gen Z MPs represent the Labour Party, including the first lawmakers born in the 2000s. British lawmakers began to be sworn in on Tuesday (July 9) as parliament convened for the first time since British Prime Minister Keir Starmer won a large majority in last week's election. As per custom, the longest-serving lawmaker Sir Edward Leigh was sworn in to the so-called 'Father of the House,' followed by Prime Minister Keir Starmer, members of his newly constituted cabinet and the shadow cabinet. Keir Starmer led Britain's Labour Party to a landslide victory in the 2024 parliamentary election, taking over from the Conservatives after 14 years in opposition and named his new cabinet last week after the July 4 poll.

When matters of importance must be decided by law, there is no one who can so well appeal to truth as the Christian. King Nebuchadnezzar II understood later in his life than though he ruled over the greatest empire of the world it was the God of Israel who is the true King of the Universe.
“My advisers and nobles sought me out, and I was restored to my throne and became even greater than before. Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and exalt and glorify the King of heaven, because everything he does is right and all his ways are just. And those who walk in pride he is able to humble”
The only comprised people who will be shown to have a lack of “the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles that you refuse to change” will be those who refuse to acknowledge that “the Most High ruleth in the kingdom of men” - Daniel 4:17

The fact that this is such a talking point demonstrates that much of the UK media landscape is dominated by outdated thinking and resistance to progressive ideas.
The UK clings to archaic parliamentary traditions that belong in a museum, not in a modern democracy.
Swearing allegiance to the King? The fact that an unelected royal family still holds significant symbolic power in the 21st century is absurd.
The UK's resistance to change is deeply ingrained in its culture, institutions, and political system. This traditionalism is a major obstacle to addressing modern challenges and often holds the country back from necessary reforms.
It's a nation too often looking backward instead of forward, and it's hurting its ability to adapt economically to a rapidly changing world.
While UK and France constantly wallow in their pasts and delusions of grandeur, both Germany and the USA have found ways to "ignore" or "reinvent" aspects of their past to facilitate economic growth and global influence.
Both nations have crafted narratives that allow them to move forward economically while selectively addressing their past.
This approach has allowed both countries to focus on becoming economic powerhouses without being constantly hamstrung by historical guilt or reparations.
