I believe the age requirement is 18, but I don't think it was set in stone until quite recently. For the longest time, it was just a general rule of thumb, and certainly by the start of the 19th century.
The UK would be hypocrites, and be disregarding a lot of history, they raised the age for how old an MP or Prime Minister should be.
Take William Pitt, the Younger. He was 24 when he took on the role of Prime Minister and was a phenomenal one at that. So good in fact at being Prime Minister, it basically killed him. James Dickinson in 1880, was also elected to MP at the mere age of 21. And less we forget the reigning monarch at the time, Queen Victoria, ascended to the throne at age 18. Any younger, she would've required a regency.
I'd say it has more so to do with intelligence, mental acuity, and sound of mind. Since sometimes, having a person in their 80s, whose been in government for decades can be an invaluable asset for perspective. While someone whose 20, can counteract that perspective, with a fresh and current perspective.

Didn’t vote for him, I’m really dissatisfied with the stances and positions Labour have taken, I even asked him directly on social media if he agreed with the statement “Does austerity need to be stopped?” He honestly said “I don’t agree”! Unbelievable! After 14 yrs of it destroying this country, all the people who have fallen into the worst poverty because of it, that Labour do not take an anti-austerity approach to their plans for govt is insulting to all the people who are poorer because of it.
It’s great to see young faces in parliament, but if their politics are not going to represent the country and its issues and fix them materially, they’re not worth shit.

@@liamcraddock9539 if you actually read the Reform manifesto, you'd realise that it's full of nutjobs who would destroy the economy, ruin our international reputation and increase police brutality. And that's not too mention the military not having to obey human rights, wreck the environment, make suburban roads more dangerous, deprive the Midlands, defund the BBC and make existence harder for people who aren't straight white males. And you are right, I haven't worked a hard job, because I'm 16. However I know plenty of people who do, all of whom believe that reform is, in fact, the worst possible party to actually run the country.

Plus younger people tend to be more left wing as they haven't had to deal with taking responsibility/ fending for themselves and are used to idea of sitting back and being taken care of which governments aren't famous for. I used to be left wing before I got out into the real world.
