@@MarineMumbles i think Blackwaterfoot Beach on The Isle of Arran is a great spot to go rockpooling lots of different species there! went there yesterday, Lots of fun. i found a pipefish carrying eggs, apparently its kinda rare so definitely worth checking it out. its best when the tide is almost all the way out (as with most rockpools) so get a tide schedule ready :)
CherryTango23 woah. I’m there right now. It’s great, I’ve found many small edible crabs and I think swimming crabs. Also have found a butterfish and hand caught countless gobies.
Kazz Eht the really small crabs (no bigger than 2 inches) you see there, under the rocks, are Broad Clawed Porcelain Crabs 🦀 hope you enjoy the rest of the stay! 👍
Awesome!! I think you could find a lot of these species there (and a lot from my videos)- my top tip is to always give it a minute or two just standing still for the Rockpool to get used to you and so much life will come a day hello!
I found a Shanny at Barry Island once, I picked it up out of the net to put it in the bucket for a photo, it slipped out of my hand, then I grabbed it again, the little f***er bit my finger (good job I was wearing thick gloves), put it in the collapseable bucket, got a photo, then set it free.
You are totally right, thanks for pointing that out! I’m much better know what the squishy creatures without a backbone are than the fish! I can’t change it on this video but I’ll make sure I get that right and mention my mistake in my others 😃
Do you have lots of sandy areas or rocky areas where you are? Try looking under rocks, and even on the bottom of rocks for tiny porcelain crabs in sandy areas. In rocky areas its easier to find more, but they love to hide away, rocks are they key! good luck!
@@villagersparky ah yes that will be why as well not too many crabs like any freshwater which will be a bit in estuaries! Very similar to where I grew up but still had so much fun finding them 😃

I think the north Wales coast is full of rocky beaches but have only been to one place before for snorkelling. So sorry can’t be of much help, but have a look on google maps and if the beach looks rocky I bet it’ll be fab to Rockpool at!
Very inspiring! I love rockpools! One question; I'm looking for a coastal area in either Devon or Cornwall with a very diverse ecosystem, with lots of rockpools and darkish, high cliffs. Is there a place that you can recommend?

Hi! Thanks so much for commenting! Are you looking to do marine biology at uni?! I would say regardless of career stage whether trying to get into uni or having got a degree and onwards that being able to show your enthusiasm for the subject goes miles! If you can try get out and participate in beach cleans, go to local talks or festivals (or a lot of online talks atm) that might be running, do your own reading around the subject whether blogs, books or videos just immerse yourself in the world, even start your own blog about what you find! Not only is it great for you to learn as much as you can just for fun, but also great to show your willing to learn and love the subject 😃

@@Miss_irish_amy oh right! Well I don’t think you can eat every kind, I don’t know if that’s because they are just too small or because they are unedible! Edible crabs and devil crabs are the two I know are commercially harvested 😃
Hi! I would say it’s a career that requires you to work hard, there can be long hours, lots of learning and odd hours of work say for fieldwork with tides or night work. But I would also say that the hard work has been the best part - because there is SO MUCH you can learn in marine biology from deep sea to ocean currents, mammals to plankton, that by having to work hard you quickly realise what aspects you LOVE and what ones you don’t. I think if you love, are willing to learn and work hard at it a really wonderful and achievable career for anyone 😃👍 Does that help? Let me know if you need more specifics?

Sounds great! I would recommend Barry beach in South Wales I have found many anemones and crabs there! Also, there are lots of beautiful rockpools in the isle of Wight, such as St. Helens duver at Nodes point! 😀

I caught a shanny last time I went!im in the northern hemisphere in the UK,we have a fish tank fore some stuff,it’s only a nano temperate reef though

I know this is old and I don’t know if you still do these types of videos but what about different algae you can find in rock pools?
You can also find the spiny starfish down Cornwall, the largest uk starfish species!
Oh I think I have seen one in a Marina down there, but totally need to get down there to film/see one up close!
