    The Swiss army knife was the first real thing my oldest son saved his money for. It was the knife with like 40 tools on it. Pretty much worthless but he want it so bad. He was about 7 and he saved and saved and was able to buy it. I was very proud of him for for that I think it was the Swiss army knife that made him realize if you want something you have to work for it. It turned out to be a life lesson for him. Thanks for reminding me of that memory.

    My favorite is the Victorinox Camper, (which hits all of my tool sweet spots, with the knot-opening, screwdrive-holding, pin-retaining corkscrew.) That said I usually leave it in my briefcase and carry a classic Red Spartan in my pocket. The Pioneer may be the descendant of the first military contract, but the Spartan is the modern version of the original Officer's Knife that soldiers brought home from the World Wars. It made Victorinox knives desirable and famous outside of Switzerland!

    Hello!
    Many thanks for posting such an interesting video!
    My favorites URBAN EDC Victorinox Knives are:
    1. Delemont EvoGrip 14
    It has all the tools I need and like to carry. It’s downside is that the Evo scales make it a thick pocket knife
    2. Sportsman X
    I modified a regular Sportsman adding a 3rd layer with 84 mm scissors. Beautiful knife and incredibly practical as an EDC
    3. COMPACT
    Probably the best standard EDC for urban use! As I carry my knife vertical by my side with a pocket clip, the 91 mm Compact is a bit long
    4. SMALL COMPACT
    Again, I modified a 84 mm WAITER by adding a second layer with 84 mm scissors. The result is THE BEST URBAN EDC I have! It is the one I use the most.
    5. CADET ALOX
    As you mention in your video, it is a perfect gentleman knife to use with my suit.
    I insist, these are my personal choices for Urban EDC and that have the tools I most often use.
    Take care

    The Explorer Model is IMO the most practical . It has enough features without being too big to carry in your pocket .
    I gave someone a Champion Model years ago before he left on a cruise to the British Isles . He used every tool on the knife during his trip including the saw and magnifying glass .
    I've given countless Classic Models as gifts to women and one time a woman I dated spotted an identical knife to the one I gave her on another woman friend's keychain ( Uh oh ! ) .
    My first Explorer Model served me for 28 years as a pry bar, paper weight, scraper, etcher, paint can opener, puller, hammer ( Don't try this at home, kids ! ) , measure and more . I also used it in its intended functions . I offered to make an ad for Victorinox but they turned me down because they don't normally use testimonial ads ???????
    If I misplace my Swiss Army Knife, I lose all of my magical powers and turn back into a mere mortal .

    My favorite Victorinox is the Farmer. The knife has the history going back to the soldier model, has more heavy duty construction, thicker blade, the best awl in the business and the cool factor with those Alox Scales is off the charts. In the outdoors it is a remarkably capable tool in a very small package. My first experience with Victorinox dates back to the 60's, with my father's red Victorinox purchased in the early 50's. I must have cut myself a hundred times growing up with that knife, but it sparked an interest and love of Victorinox products that continues to this day.

    Hi there from switzerland! Nice to see such a passion around those knifes. The farmer was the official army knife back in the days while i was doing my army service in 2001. man i loved that knife! Some cadets came to visit us from russia one day, all of them wanted to change stuff, of course all of them wished to get our army knifes. They offered me several badges but i wanted more :) so i got an old golden soviet belt buckle with the hammer and sickle on it. haha delicious memories. The farmer has been replaced since years, not sure how the new one is called exactly.
    Greetings to the world from switzerland!🤙

    Great video, by the way :)
    Just two small comments:
    1. The Compact comes with a pin by default, but most people don't know that most of the 84 / 91 mm Cellidor knives come with scales that have the hole for the pin, it's just not included out of the box. But you can steal one from the sewing kit of your mom/wife etc. :)
    2. Try to put the Compact's pen under the hook instead of the cork screw. It's much firmer.

    • @miklospinter
      @miklospinter Před 5 lety +1

      @@kylethedalek Both are great. Usually I prefer the Pioneer because it's lighter and I hardly ever need a saw. But when I go to places where I'm likely to need one, I take a Farmer. The Pioneer X is a very good knife as well, more useful in an urban environment. Most of the time, the scissors on my Classic are enough for me, but if I could only have one knife on me, it would be the X. For example, that's what I take when I travel.

    • @kylethedalek

    All good stuff. I especially appreciated the little snippet about mounting the ballpoint pen under the corkscrew. You might want to add a similar tidbit on the use of the wire stripper. It took me literally years to discover the intended way to strip the plastic coating from a wire, using the notch and main blade.

      Nicola, Victorinox can legally call all of its knives "Swiss Army Knives". Other Swiss companies, such as Swiza, cannot. Of course that this is widely used commercially, especially because the "Soldier" model is currently the only model issued to the Swiss Army. However, Victorinox makes a lot of money by selling the (true) story that its knives were once issued to the Swiss Army (and to this day, one model still is) that they can legally call all of them "Swiss Army Knives".

    • @WR3ND
      @WR3ND Před 4 lety +1

      The Trekker is also very similar to the modern standard issue. My standard issue Soldier is from 2009 though. | Regardless, these have been popular in more Western markets (i.e., the US) for a long time (many decades) as "Swiss Army Knives." The actual company names have been much less well known, at least until more recently.
