It seems so simple, and yet I can see exactly how this style of animation translated into classics like Popeye and Felix the Cat. It's almost like this is a display of the gesture drawings for those kinds of characters.
I hope this man had some sort of idea of what he started. Today we have CGI and video game graphics that a nearly totally realistic. I hope he was aware of the greatness he achieved. Somebody has to get the ball rolling and it takes a genius mind to do so.

I just imagined my great grandparents (all born around 1900, as far as I know) watching this when they were kids, how much they would have enjoyed this. It likely never happened, but the thought of people who you only knew - if at all! - when they were very old people to be young children watching a cartoon surely warms my heart.
