The Disney company have produced hundreds of films over the years and as you may already know there has always been a lot of dark rumours flying around about the origins of some of their films. Well some of those rumours are true because a few popular disney films are based on very unusual stories and tales. So from the dark original story of Pinocchio that sees him get tortured, burnt and hung to the original tangled which has a much different ending and even the true historical story behind Pocahontas. Here are 5 Disney films that were inspired or based off unusual & true, rather dark stories.

"Into the woods" is an amazing movie which includes Rapunzel's true entire story as depicted in this video, it's live action and probably one of the most worth it but dark and also hilarious movie. It combines many tails like Little Red Riding Hood and Rapunzel, etc.
theres a play we're gonna act as and its into the woods but its junior version ._.
I was just think of that!
Gosh how I miss that wonderful movie 😭
Yeah, Johnny Depp is also in the movie.
This movie is actually on Disney plus, it’s rlly good
Cindrella and James and the magic seeds
What i love about Winnie The Pooh, no matter how low and depressed Eeyore is, they include him in everything they do. If only real life was like that. The first time i ever felt included in anything was, ironically an inpatient on a psych ward and latterly i saw people include and support each other when working in a medium secure psychiatric hospital.

Also did you know that Sterling Holloway, the original Winnie the Pooh, used to phone children's hospitals in character to cheer them up? ❤️
Same about Rapunzel. It was one of my favorite. It's also a much better story than Tangled which I also enjoyed

Fun fact: instead of being based off a tale it’s based off of real life and Motoaka (I guess her real name) was only a child when she saved a man’s life!

Nance RIGHT THO
Nance omg I have the same thing around 11 I get friggin scared
Nance that always happends to me
For reals... That's just scary to think about.
Nance that is so true
The Pinocchio one is by far the most shocking to me and unknown to me, but now I’ve heard of its origins I feel like there was subtle hints in the Disney Film, such as in the into with the clocks there’s an inappropriate bit with a small child over an adults knee getting spanked, my mum actually pointed it out and said that she was surprised it wasn’t edited out on the DVD
I was raised on all the original stories of the Brothers Grimm, Hans Christian Anderson, HP Lovecraft, Hawthorne, Edgar Allen Poe, Shakespeare, etc.. My mother was an avid bibliophile & was extremely honest with her children, & I was always grateful for her honesty...despite how ugly the truth was. I raised my own son the same way. No sugar coated stories from her...
The Brothers Grimm had already straighten out the fairy tales...
Rapunzel was pregnant
In the original fairy tale: The shoes that were danced to pieces ... eleven applicants were already hanged, as the twelfth tried his luck, to get the daughter
and so on
Imagine writing a book yourself, then Disney makes a whole film about it

Stories like this used to be normal. Children's stories often had death in. Probably to keep them in line.

Man. Every damn time. Winnie the Pooh's story gets me in the feels. Hard. I've always had such a huge soft spot for it and, as someone who suffers from a plethora of mental illnesses, I can absolutely see the striking similarities. Either way, I respect it.
Yea but it’s not true. Most of those didn’t exist back then.
As an Italian, I already knew the original story of Pinocchio. There’s also a live action film from 1972 which is more accurate.
Fun fact: in the original version, we understand the fairy with turquoise hair is actually Geppetto’s dead wife, who had always wanted a son but never got it. And later, after Pinocchio got back from the Land of Toys ,he saw her grave which said she died cause her heart was literally broken
I know this is kind of off topic but..
*why did Cinderella’s shoe fall off if the Fairy Godmother said it was a perfect fit..*
Idk about that but in thr real story i think she did it on purpose to test if the prince would follow her
Perhaps those words aren't to be taken literally.. like, say... oh.. just for example lets say you love everything A.Grande.. someone buys you a Tshirt with Grande on it as a present. Well,sure.. its a perfect fit since you like her, only thing is that its size large and you are a size medium.. so in that sense it is not a perfect fit.. hopefully that helps any confusion that you may have had. Good day!!!

Because...no one is perfect.

If you've read the book "Pinocchio" by Micheal Morpourgo, you'll know a lot about the original story. Pretty dark, but Micheal Morpourgo changed a lot, thankfully. The only really similar part is the theifs (However they are portrayed as animals) And Pinocchio being hanged, nearly dying, then being saved by the beautiful woman with blue hair, (Aka, the fairy)

In the original sleeping beauty, the prince wasn't even the one who awoke her but one of the babies she had after the prince found her.
no. i don't think so. this was my favorite fairytale when i was younger and the prince always kissed her. in every version i read
@@fantasietraume I think it was the Giambattista Basile version of the tale. It has been a while since I read it but the princess aka sleeping beauty has twins while still in her coma-like state and one of them suckling her finger is what wakes her as it removes the piece of flax.

@ZZ WEI ZZ According to Basile's version, she is discovered in her castle by a wandering king, who "carrie[s] her to a bed, where he gather[s] the first fruits of love." But since this happens when she is in coma, yeah I guess it is still rape.

Snow white really gets me, you see a dead body and your first thought is "kiss her!" I mean wtf man
It's not just Snow White who has a dark story. If you hadn't known, every Disney princess has a dark backstory. All Princess story's are a Grimms brother story.
They all end in a dark way, like Cinderella! The stepsisters and the stepmother fell of a really high cliff and Vultures circuled them and poked out their eyes... Like when they had to cut off the girls heels so the glass shoe would fit..
What about Cinderella? In the original story, the shoe didn’t fit, so the sisters chopped off their own toes to make it fit
Rick Sanchez and then birds pecked the sisters eyes out. i also heared cinderella slammed something on the stepmothers neck (from buzzfeed) but not sure
True dat
I'm pretty sure those motherfuckers back than laughed about this shit.. mom: so then some birds came and pecked her eyes out... The children: hahahaha she should have covered her eyes what a whore hahaha
I think we read this at primary
Jey Theyprey Lmaoo
Fun fact: snow white was only 7 years old when she get married to 31 years old prince
And Pochontos was 12 (??)
How is that possible? I didn't understand-
I think I heard this somewhere that in the olden times young girls had to marry older men because of illness. I'm not sure this is true tho.
WHAT KSKWBDKHEEJKDJSLSKSLSKS
I thought Snow White was 14 when she married him
There’s a book called Finding Winnie that tells the story of the bear we all know and love. It’s a children’s book but it is so amazing to read, it even has real pictures in the back of the book of Winnie and Christopher and Winnie’s original owner.
I read somewhere that the story of Snow White was based on a true story where a y young girl who was cast out by her stepmother then went on to live with a group of paedophiles (the dwarves), who were also cast out by their villages. But the Brothers Grimm "cleaned up" that story and turned into a more acceptable fairy tale for their time. (Obviously, values change over time).
Me as a kid: Oh I love the movie.....
Me right now: Oh I love the original story.....

Rupunzle was actually pregnant that's why the witch cut her hair and banned her from the tower. She gave birth to twins. The prince didn't try and commit suicide rather the witch said some things like 'you snaked your way into her bed' she pushed him out the window but thorns broke his fall, but they pierced his eyes, causing him to be blind. He wandered the streets and heard rupunzles voice and two little kids and his eyesight was back.

Collodi initially published the work in installments, almost by accident and without too much desire, on the first vintage of 1881 of the Journal for children directed by Ferdinando Martini, a weekly periodical supplement of the newspaper Il Fanfulla, in which the first eight episodes were published. Collodi defines his work as "a childishness" and tells the editor of the newspaper: "Do what you like; but, if you print it, pay it well, to make me want to follow it. "

For the Rapunzel one. When the mother found out, she cut her hair, blah blah blah. Then she sent her to a dessert. After that, the Prince climbed up the tower. Then, the mother pushed him off. He fell on poison ivy. So he went blind. But he didn't give up. He continued to call out "Rapunzel, Rapunzel!" Until he reached the dessert. When he reached the dessert. Rapunzel heard him. They went running to each other. The Prince fainted right after. So he was on her lap. Ofc, Rapunzel started crying. When her tears touched his eyes. He woke up, and he wasn't blind anymore. 💫Quite lovely if you ask me :)💫

I've been joining literally competitions since grade school and was the representative of our school for storytelling at fifth grade. I was trained to read Rapunzel for the competition and I am so shock to know right now that the Rapunzel I presented at that storytelling competition is the original version. It wasn't disturbing at all actually, maybe because they edited it a bit to fit the person who'd read it which is the 11 years old me. Was that the reason I didn't won? Jk 😂 anyway, the man on the video started talking about Rapunzel and I thought it was quite familiar because at the training, I managed to memorize the whole piece so that it'll be easier for me to present. Goosebumps gosh.

Well in the stories they werent that bad and i could say this cause i have the original pinnochio book and he burns off his legs in it because he was cold and his dad was in jail I'm pretty sure haven't read it in awhile, Pinocchio gets cold and decides to put his legs over a fire in the house to warm himself, he thinks it feels nice, but since he's wood he doesn't know he's burning his legs off but But his dad builds him new ones, but I mean putting it in context just saying "Pinocchio burns off his legs" is pretty bad.
