The Disney company have produced hundreds of films over the years and as you may already know there has always been a lot of dark rumours flying around about the origins of some of their films. Well some of those rumours are true because a few popular disney films are based on very unusual stories and tales. So from the dark original story of Pinocchio that sees him get tortured, burnt and hung to the original tangled which has a much different ending and even the true historical story behind Pocahontas. Here are 5 Disney films that were inspired or based off unusual & true, rather dark stories.

"Into the woods" is an amazing movie which includes Rapunzel's true entire story as depicted in this video, it's live action and probably one of the most worth it but dark and also hilarious movie. It combines many tails like Little Red Riding Hood and Rapunzel, etc.

What i love about Winnie The Pooh, no matter how low and depressed Eeyore is, they include him in everything they do. If only real life was like that. The first time i ever felt included in anything was, ironically an inpatient on a psych ward and latterly i saw people include and support each other when working in a medium secure psychiatric hospital.

The Pinocchio one is by far the most shocking to me and unknown to me, but now I’ve heard of its origins I feel like there was subtle hints in the Disney Film, such as in the into with the clocks there’s an inappropriate bit with a small child over an adults knee getting spanked, my mum actually pointed it out and said that she was surprised it wasn’t edited out on the DVD

  • @humongousfungusamongus3871

It's not just Snow White who has a dark story. If you hadn't known, every Disney princess has a dark backstory. All Princess story's are a Grimms brother story.
They all end in a dark way, like Cinderella! The stepsisters and the stepmother fell of a really high cliff and Vultures circuled them and poked out their eyes... Like when they had to cut off the girls heels so the glass shoe would fit..

I read somewhere that the story of Snow White was based on a true story where a y young girl who was cast out by her stepmother then went on to live with a group of paedophiles (the dwarves), who were also cast out by their villages. But the Brothers Grimm "cleaned up" that story and turned into a more acceptable fairy tale for their time. (Obviously, values change over time).

For the Rapunzel one. When the mother found out, she cut her hair, blah blah blah. Then she sent her to a dessert. After that, the Prince climbed up the tower. Then, the mother pushed him off. He fell on poison ivy. So he went blind. But he didn't give up. He continued to call out "Rapunzel, Rapunzel!" Until he reached the dessert. When he reached the dessert. Rapunzel heard him. They went running to each other. The Prince fainted right after. So he was on her lap. Ofc, Rapunzel started crying. When her tears touched his eyes. He woke up, and he wasn't blind anymore. 💫Quite lovely if you ask me :)💫

I've been joining literally competitions since grade school and was the representative of our school for storytelling at fifth grade. I was trained to read Rapunzel for the competition and I am so shock to know right now that the Rapunzel I presented at that storytelling competition is the original version. It wasn't disturbing at all actually, maybe because they edited it a bit to fit the person who'd read it which is the 11 years old me. Was that the reason I didn't won? Jk 😂 anyway, the man on the video started talking about Rapunzel and I thought it was quite familiar because at the training, I managed to memorize the whole piece so that it'll be easier for me to present. Goosebumps gosh.

Well in the stories they werent that bad and i could say this cause i have the original pinnochio book and he burns off his legs in it because he was cold and his dad was in jail I'm pretty sure haven't read it in awhile, Pinocchio gets cold and decides to put his legs over a fire in the house to warm himself, he thinks it feels nice, but since he's wood he doesn't know he's burning his legs off but But his dad builds him new ones, but I mean putting it in context just saying "Pinocchio burns off his legs" is pretty bad. But when you read the story it isn't as bad as you think
