    Dr. Russ needs to take a gun safety refresher course. The first rule of gun safety is to be sure the muzzle is always pointed in a safe direction. I don’t think the palms of his hands would qualify as a safe direction.

    hello. Dr. Russ first off i want to thank you for such great videos, i my self am a 100 % military connected disabled veteran during peace time, anyways i just started getting into break barrels and pcp air rifles, mainly to hunt coyotes in Florida and to protect my little buddy Rocco which he is a very small dog, the area i live in is urban and we have a lake near by down the street from me, where coyotes are know to be at, as a friend of mine with the Pinellas county sheriffs office has told me about the coyote droppings he has seen when he takes his dog to the lake, this is a small concern with me, as i stated the size of my dog as well as i am disabled, so i have done a lot of research on coyotes as well as talked to the guy that lives next door to me and he is Mexican and told me that coyotes are in fact very deadly and being they are near a urban area makes it a concern for me, now i have been looking at break barrels and pcp air rifles to deal with a coyote if need be more then likely in my backyard, so short to long range and i would like to be able for the rifle to be muti-shot and i was thinking a laser sight would be better for very easy on target, but what would you recommend for what type of rifle and caliber, scope or laser ? for small game to medium game like coyotes, thank you !!

      Stan121 midling ... It is good to hear from you and thank you for your service ... I am a disabled Vet too.... First of all, I believe your small dog is in danger too ... particularly once those Coyotes aren't able to get all of the food they want from the natural environment that they are in... Hopefully it is not to late ... but once you hear that there are missing cats and dogs in your area ... then I would be on heightened alert ... and any natural environment has cycles in their food sources ... so that day will come. Second ... your best defense is to go outside with your small dog each time you let it out ... that is the easiest defense. Coyotes have to be in a pack (they typically are not) or rabid to attack a human ... and will attack children and small women first.... Second, consider some poisoned dog food (rat poison with dog food) in a bowl far back where your dog is not allowed to go (or neighbor's dogs too) will be a second choice ... and third would be a rifle ... which requires practice and most of all ... you being ready to shoot at that right moment when a coyote shows up and gives you a nice shot. Lasers have to be sighted in during early morning or late evenings when they show up ... and you would have to continually check that their battery is still good. Not knowing your backyard ... open sights or a scope would also be effective. Minimum caliber is 22 which is more likely to chase a coyote away ... where a 25 caliber to the head would be second ... and a larger caliber anywhere would be third. Other coyotes will probably turn on a bleeding coyote. Click on the circle of my photo in any of our videos to see our entire channel of videos (35 to date) and watch the one on "Accuracy" ... another on "Woodchucks" ... another two on "Trapping"... Only a few break barrel air guns are available in 25 caliber ... Benjamin makes one ... Hatsan too ... and there are others.... Here in Norway, a person over 18 year old can buy any .17 cal air gun. Bigger bore had to be registered. I have the Crosman Mag Fire piston. To my surprise "made in China". The gun is precise with heavy pellets. But the problem is the magazine of not so good quality, and impossible to find a replacement. I have contacted Crosman, and they tell me to wait. The pandemic make production problems! I dont know what to belive, and still waiting for the big dealers to contact me when the magazines are back in stock. Irritate to have half a good magazine on a gun i like to shoot.

      @russelljones4132 Před 3 lety +3

      Jay Long .... it is good to hear from you and the fact that you are enjoying your Black Ops in 22 caliber. Yes, dieseling can turbocharge those pellets. I owned a Benjamin Nitro Piston XL some years ago and found it to be the most powerful break barrel at that time. Unfortunately, there was no way to change the power of it or other break barrels ... bringing the power down and therefore gaining more accuracy ... which is important to me for critters who I often shoot at 65 to 100 yards. For accuracy, I have found that dieseling even makes that goal more challenging... so a little dab of vaseline or oil is no longer part of my shooting practice. Please keep me in your loop of air gun experience... and share again. Dr. Russ

      @@russelljones4132 Funny this, I just did an experiment in the range with the B.O. Sniper, dry Crosman HP 14.3's against the same with a light covering of WD40 'Silicone' lubricant, no petrol products, so there should be less/no combustion, but more slippery-do in the barrel, roughly 700Ft/s for dry, 900ish for the silicon and no pop'n sounds, my range is shorter than your inside range (And not as nicely decorated) so accuracy is to be debated (That an I need to get better optics (mmmm ATN...) and work on my breathing control) But silicon lube may have potential over other lubricants, another thought is a light coat of case-lube or beeswax (I know we use beeswax for bullet casting release agent)

      @@kyootfox Thanks for the update .... consider motorcycle chain wax which is a thick greasy oil from a motorcycle store ... or bullet lube spray from a gun store... both thick oils... just a light spray onto your pellets.... you want to keep thin runny oils out of your mechanism ... just as powder gun people want the same for their guns.... consider storing barrel end down the first day or two so that any oil running might be towards the end of the barrel instead of down in to the air gun mechanism... very harmful for springers.... 8: 51. Hello and thanks for the tour. I like the ringing saw blade in the 2" (or so) hole.
    I made a wind sock of a 4" wide strip of plastic grocery bag, painted the end red,
    and an inverted J shaped pole from a sapling, mounted in a drilled wood block.
    We're supposed to hold the breakbarrels under our shoulder, arm around it, hand on the barrel, when loading - If it doesn't have a "bear trap" prohibitor. Some have claimed bent barrels from snapping shut, and some fingers injuries.
    I'm in the process of taking as much weight off my Seneca Aspen as can. Not easy, Seneca did a good job of it in designing - 8 pounds w/o a scope, close to 10 with scope and light. For me, that's at the top of medium weight, but lighter is going to be better. So far it's lost 1 pound 4 oz.
    I carried an M60 over many a hill: 16.5 lbs, plus 300 rds, sometimes steel pot, flac jacket, water, other gear, and I weighed about 155 lbs, but I wasn't as lazy then. You know how mean those lieutenants were.
    The Aspen is a fantastic design with the attached pump and very good accuracy. Oil them often.
    18: 50 - , Ya, I wonder why the airgun mfgs can't buy/make quality springs - our car valve springs last millions of compressions, and set compressed for many years, yet last 200,000 miles + of working.

I had trouble ... even using heavy 17 caliber pellets to bring it down in velocity (950 or lower fps) because of its power. it was noisy ... and pellets whirled causing it not to be as accurate as I wanted it to be.... secondly, check out my video on buying refurbished air rifles and look at Hatsan 130 QE ... a break barrel which I believe is under $ 200 like the black ops ... and shoots a 30 caliber pellet at about 650 + feet a second. Yes... but with 20 PCP air guns ... the break barrels don't get much use... This Black Ops in both 22 and 17 caliber were well made .... and I dont expect them to break down with normal use... Dr. Russ
