    To my ear, Tom has a very proper Peruvian accent, while Joeys accent is very Cuban (alo asere que bola)

    • @vabp8985
      @vabp8985 Před 3 lety +7

      probably because Tom is half peruvian and Joey was born in Cuba

    • @vabp8985
      @vabp8985 Před 3 lety +5

      @ltx his mother was born and raised in Peru, although most Americans use this "half" thing to refer to great grandfathers or beyond, which doesn't make sense. They just wanna feel special and pretend to be from a different nationality, but in Tom's case it's 100% accurate

    • @vabp8985
      @vabp8985 Před 3 lety +4

      @ltx dude he has said on several occasions and stand up sets that his mother was born and raised in Peru and moved to the US as an adult, she barely speaks English, why is this so hard for you to believe? He speaks perfect Spanish because of her lol

    • @vabp8985
      @vabp8985 Před 3 lety +5

      @ltx you cant be serious. saying "half peruvian" is simply a way of saying "one side of my family comes from Peru". Its a lingo used everywhere, it cant be that hard to understand man. And why are you so caught up with dual citizenship? He can only say that if he walks around with two passports? Thats just a stupid statement. You cant be half a nationality but you can explain to people that a side of your family comes from a specific place, kinda obvious man
      also, as someone who lived in the US his whole life and was until recently selling out shows in Spanish, I'd say his spanish is pretty damn perfect

    Estoy muy sorprendido que after so many years Joey sigue hablando español cubano 😮
    I love his english accent and way of talking. El Cubano le sale incluso cuando habla inglés. No el acento but through his gestures and humor 😂
    Creo que exponerse a muchos y diferentes acentos es la mejor manera de aprender un idioma. Recuerdo hace un algunos años no entendía el acento británico pero luego de trabajar y hablar con ellos ya puedo hasta distinguir la región de la que proceden 😅
    En español lo mismo. En España hay un mogollón de acentos. El andaluz es más cool 😊
    PS: Lo único que destesto de mi acento cubano es pronunciar las R cómo una L 🤪 that's just *ucked up!

    I always love watching people speak their respective secondary languages (although I guess one could argue that in Tom's case, Español is actually his primary language since that's what he learned first as a child.. it's all meaningless semantics at the end of the day, just bear with me here even if you disagree with me on that small point.) It's extremely fascinating to me to see the little differences in the way people communicate with each other when they're speaking their day-to-day primary language versus their secondary languages that are not utilized nearly as often in their everyday lives.
    Through my own experiences as a native English speaker, I've learned that I can have a polite, mundane conversation with a person while simultaneously realizing that I'm completely bored with the exchange and thoroughly uninterested in what they are saying.. But then if I were to have a similarly polite, mundane conversation with that same person except this time in Español (my secondary language), all of the sudden I'm completely engaged in the conversation and genuinely interested in what they are telling me.
    I'm sure there has to be some bit of actual science involved here.
