All My Nintendo true but they didn’t have any issue with that unfinished game being released on their console and continued to advertise it like nothing was wrong
it seems that the difference is that Nintendo releases that content later for free, while this is still a bit scummy, there are worse cases of this, like the Capcom disk-lock controversy you mentioned, which seems to be paid content, or the SwSh case, which is adding stuff (with some of it being in the game's data already, but it's mostly cosmetics) as Paid DLCs with the price tag of half the game's prices, and the content being added doesn't even seem to be worth the money.
Capcom wanted you to pay for that. Yes Nintendo should at least try to release a fully packaged game but I'm at least glad they follow threw with giving players free content.
Compared to past Animal Crossing games New Horizons is very much in an unfinished state at this time. It's a great game don't get me wrong but man is it missing SO much necessary shit.
Reminds me of Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City. They had an entire separate campaign locked on the disc you had to pay to unlock. I enjoyed it, but it sucks once you realize it.
Uncle Al, I love these videos! Please keep making them!! The dub videos are great too, but I honestly love the change of format. PLEAAAAASSSEEEE keep making these videos if it's what makes you happy!!
honestly, i don’t mind this kind of strategy when it comes to nintendo games. yes, you buy the game for full price with not that much content, but the extended amount of time you can play and enjoy it because of the content patches make it worth while (for me at least)
That's an okay opinion but I really do miss the age of no DLC and games were released finito. Nintendo's business model is completely different from what it was and even massive single player games get DLC (though thankfully those games still feel finished on release).
I was actually really hoping you’d continue your gaming commentary as they were very interesting and enjoyable! This new twist is even better! Please keep these coming!
I think the 'Nintendo is intentionally withholding content to release later' thing is a bit of a tinfoil hat moment, I think it has more to do with the fact that things are withheld because they're straight up unfinished when it's time for release. Games are getting more expensive to make and Nintendo has shareholders to please and rioting crowds to keep happy - look at what happened to their stocks when they delayed AC. And to be honest, I think Nintendo's method of 'release it later in a free update' is the best solution for everyone compared to 'delay the game further,' 'overwork staff to finish everything,' 'release an unfinished game and move on', or, god forbid, 'release an unfinished game and finish it with paid DLC', (which albeit seems to be the route they're taking with SwSh, unfortunately) I'm not saying there isn't a better solution, or that Nintendo is above criticism here, but I think that among the swathes AAA studios constantly releasing unfinished pieces of shit, Nintendo comes out looking *relatively* okay. And to be honest criticising Mario Maker 2 3.0 just seems like you're ragging on the concept of content updates in general. The real issue was that that game launched without online multiplayer with friends, which is completely ridiculous. I think your other examples (except maybe Animal Crossing, for which I feel like this style of content release might work? We'll see - it seemed to for New Leaf,) are perfect - Arms was unfinished and still feels that way tbh, Splatoon 2 is great now but felt really lacklustre on launch, and Star Allies was a joke. Otherwise, great video. I do think BOTW was the last first-party Nintendo game that felt properly finished on launch, (having cut content doesn't indicate something is unfinished - *every game has cut content,)* as even Mario Odyssey had content problems before its update, though I didn't buy Luigi's Mansion 3 so I can't say for sure.
Honestly nintendo has kindof been slowly giving less poopoos about their games and more poopoos about money since the Wii U era. For example, the artificial amibo shortages, animal crossing amibo festival forcing you to buy amibos, and Mario Maker just being barebones and even unfinished with all the updates. But now especially, they've really been lowering the poopoos given on their content. Like how you have to pay 20 buckaroonies for online things that would've been free in earlier generations. Having to use said subscription for virtual console instead of buying the games you like and keeping them forever. As well as what Uncle Al is saying. (Plus having to pay like 15+ dollars to keep your pokemon which like half are gone anyway.). But what scares me the most is how tiny poopoos they'll give in the future. Like, if they're going this low now, and stay on this path, we might be hitting rock bottom soon.
william ratcliffe I’m curious why you feel Mario Maker was barebones and unfinished. I thought it had significantly one-upped the first game and justified its existence
@@jaybee27D I was talking about the original mm for the WiinU, on second thought it wasn't really unfinished it was just that alot of basic mario entities were missing, and the difficulty sorting algorithm for mario challenge being totally screwed up
I feel the big issue, as Uncle Al said, is that the content IS THERE IN THE CODE, but Nintendo is removing from the release and THEN sprinkling the content in as time goes on. If the content wasn't being removed and then released later on, and the game was instead getting completely new stuff added to it as time went on, that'd be totally fine.
Splatoon 2 and Super Mario Maker 2 are both sequels that focus on online multiplayer, making it common for them to get an abundance of post-launch updates. All the other games are mostly good examples.
Animal crossing new horizons has less features than the older games and adds new features with drip feed content. Mario maker 2 and splatoon 2 were undercooked. I don't say this because I hate nintendo, I say it because they're going completely down hill and not being called out on it.
@@THRACIA776ISTHEGREATEST yeah, coming from a game like new leaf that has a lot of content you earn over the course of time, the fact animal crossing new horizons has to wait irl and in game time to get that content while still being 60 dollars is insane even more so if you remember that this game was held off before release to have more work put into it
The worse part is it doesn't have less content than just new leaf. It has less content than the n64 original with a 20mb cartridge. It's utterly ridiculous people eat this stuff up.
@who while I agree it seems like NH does things that nobody ever really liked, like more freedom outside, inside, and even editting your face. the problem is the game feels like it cares more about tweaks and how it looks rather than the content. sure its slick as heck to do things but there isn't really much to do. it feels like crafting as a whole was a way to make players run around in circles to ignore just how little there really is to do.
@@THRACIA776ISTHEGREATEST I don't agree that SMM2 was undercooked, it seemed pretty finished at launch, and these updates felt like just some free extra content, but Mario Tennis Aces on the other hand...
I'd argue that Mario Maker had enough at launch for it to feel like a proper sequel and be complete, if it weren't for the No Friends in Online Multiplayer thing.
Even as a Kirby fan, I have to agree Star Allies originally felt unfinished. But at the same time, I’m glad they added new allies, ultimate choice, guest star, etc. If you’re trying to get into the series, I would rather you choose Triple Deluxe or Planet Robobot. I hope the next one in the series is “THE BIG ONE” that HAL has been hyping it up to be for some time.
Game Freak is so damn lucky they aren't Nintendo, because I'm sure Uncle Al would've had a FIELD DAY with Pokemon Sword and Shield: an unfinished game that makes you PAY for the completed version.
Honestly I feel like a lot of the games that come out nowadays are pretty unfinished, its rare you find a fully fleshed out game that doesnt get dlc updates
For me, the whole strategy of releasing half baked games and then release the rest of the content through updates date all the way back to Splatoon 1. That game had only five multiplayer maps and two online modes at launch, but was still successfully due to it having solid gameplay and being the first big new Nintendo IP in years.
@ Uncle Al it's called the Nintendo effect: Unless game breaking bugs/glitchs are found in the game, a nintendo made game will auto score at least a 9/10; no matter the games (the exception to this law comes from launch titles)
This video's editing satisfies my short attention span and doesn't overstay its welcome by trying to hit that 10 min mark. Also a topic I don't hear many talking about and Nintendo SHOULD be called out for it. Please make more!
Luigi's Mansion 3: the game's still good but I don't even bother with it anymore. Probably its because I already got to see what I had to see. Played through it blind, got to the final part, collected all the boos and gems.. DLC: Now you can dress up your scare scraper! Me: :l
Actually nobody is mad at him because even as fans of Nintendo, we agree! It also helps that Al himself has shown he's a big fan himself, so its easier and more relative to understand his nitpicks
@JOHN JOHN I'm not saying I disagree (I haven't played the game so I wouldn't know, and I'm not a fan of the Kirby games I've already played), more that criticising Kirby games in this current day internet climate is kind of a death wish.
@@supermakermatic2111 even for a generic "oooh the fandom is gonna be unhappy" the kirby fanbase really never is known for their anger, their like what animal crossing fans pretend to be
I definitely think the other game that did this right was splatoon 2. You didn't talk about, but you showed it, but for the first year or so, they released a new weapon every single week and a new map every month. The game at launch also had a decent amount of content, and that single player DLC was great.
As a ARMS fan, the truth hurts. I really wish the game was finished before release and had all the characters and the few more modes instead of being given the Nintendo price tag when it was bare bones. The only positive was at least I didn't have to pay money for All Might, DeviantArt OC, Crash, Ow The Edge, or Aluminum Pants. But it ain't saying much since it might as well be me paying forty bucks for the unfinished game and twenty bucks for new characters, badges and one new mode that make the game complete. With that said, ARMS is still one of my personal favorites.
Im a huge Kirby fanboy and I can confirm that Kirby Star Allies is a very disappointing title that I like but understand that it isn't a good game. If you want a good Kirby game go play Planet Robobot, that one's great! Your distaste for the game is 100% valid, and I completely agree with it.
People out wanting you to do your dub videos instead BUT HONESTLY DO WHAT YOU WANT. Personally I prefer this because we get to see more of who you are. Great video keep up the great work!
I actually like the idea of timed release of content it has the potential to extend the life of the game and incentives exploring what the game has to offer while waiting for the next update my problem with it is that they wait WAY too long to release these updates, often after the community has already disbanded or moved on to the next game
I actually kind of agree with you on this, there’s to much stuff missing for lots of Nintendo games and it’s really easy to spot the missing stuff in animal crossing, Jesus they don’t even have gyroids yet, you know the thing that’s been in the series since the original one on the N64.
I don't think it's much of an issue for Splatoon because it's a competitive game. The updates come with patches and events. And it had a full story mode at launch.
So I subbed cause you make haha funny spongebob videos, but you take a topic that a shitty commentary channel would stretch to 20 minutes with absolutely no charm and make it a pretty well edited and snappy take that is clear and concise while also being very thorough, clearly your talents extend past a phenomenal Hugh Neutron impression
I would be okay if animal crossing had content made for holidays, Like being able to plant pine trees during Christmas, but holding back content, in a game genre that is supposed to be time sinking already is pretty cheap, the only way to see this content would be exploiting the game, which most only due to upgrade buildings and such.
MESSAGE FOR UNCLE AL Ok dig some soil and recreate a mountain in 1 minute and when you touch a rock you can't let go and ad more you hold on to it for that minute when it's done
They tested this out orginally with splatoon on the wii u and realized it was okay to do for other things probably. Except they forgot that splatoon has a really gratifying gamplay loop and is well fleshed out. Arms didnt have that benefit and kirby especially didnt have it as a single player game.
The Kirby one just kept getting me back in because of those damn updates I mean if I’m able to play as galactic monsters that tried to kill me Imma wanna play
Thank you Al, sword and shield is a perfect example of this. Only the patches are never fixed and updates are sold for $30 and at least $15 more to transfer old Pokémon outside the switch. The gameplay also doesn’t feel natural either. I miss a game that truly gets me wrapped in an enjoyable story. :(
Great points made. I'm a bit less pessimistic on this sorta topic but I get where you were coming from. Smash did the content distribution the best when it comes to games with updates. P.S. love the fear factory music at the end.
Sea of Thieves is a good example of other companies attempting to pull off the same model as Nintendo but being lambasted at launch. It’s a great game now and Rare is showing no sounds of stopping content (the playerbase is that big).

@@memenazi7078 and the competitive scene is aids thanks to gigantimaxing. You can only run like 30 different Pokemon and most of them are used the same way. Loved some parts of the game but you could really tell where they phoned it in.
I dunno. I think if Pokemon were handled by Nintendo themselves the games would be about as good as Odyssey or Botw.
It's Game Freak the creator of Pokémon sword and shield not Nintendo.
All My Nintendo true but they didn’t have any issue with that unfinished game being released on their console and continued to advertise it like nothing was wrong
I feel *unfinished* after seeing these games
That is interesting that Nintendo always seems to get a pass. Wasn’t there a major controversy about Capcom disk locked content a few years ago?
it seems that the difference is that Nintendo releases that content later for free, while this is still a bit scummy, there are worse cases of this, like the Capcom disk-lock controversy you mentioned, which seems to be paid content, or the SwSh case, which is adding stuff (with some of it being in the game's data already, but it's mostly cosmetics) as Paid DLCs with the price tag of half the game's prices, and the content being added doesn't even seem to be worth the money.
Uncle Al has the most casual way of speaking, period. It makes me feel like I’m his best friend.
Uncle Al using footage from 2012 Ninja Turtles? Ya hear that? That's my respect for him skyrocketing.
Been watching it a ton recently, almost finished with the series now. Absolutely love it
@@UncleAlShow Excellent! Glad you like it. Feel like it isn't talked about enough...
Reminds me of Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City. They had an entire separate campaign locked on the disc you had to pay to unlock. I enjoyed it, but it sucks once you realize it.
Paying for content that’s on disc is different to it being added in for free, both are shitty but you’re not forced to shill out more money
You're my favorite Uncle, Al.
You know it’s gonna be good when it begins with a Stitch impression. Stitch spits facts
0:00 stitches is here
Uncle Al, I love these videos! Please keep making them!! The dub videos are great too, but I honestly love the change of format. PLEAAAAASSSEEEE keep making these videos if it's what makes you happy!!
I really like your hot takes on stuff. Hope this kind of content is here to stay!
honestly, i don’t mind this kind of strategy when it comes to nintendo games. yes, you buy the game for full price with not that much content, but the extended amount of time you can play and enjoy it because of the content patches make it worth while (for me at least)
Yeah, I agree. Still think the game should be well, a game, but adding in new content and getting me back into certain games is nice.
You pretty much admitted that you enjoy being served shit and having it polished into a turd.
That's an okay opinion but I really do miss the age of no DLC and games were released finito. Nintendo's business model is completely different from what it was and even massive single player games get DLC (though thankfully those games still feel finished on release).
Soupmaster101 wow dude you’re so cool and different i can’t believe you’re the ONLY millennial
Diran yeah i do love me a good old polished turd
I was actually really hoping you’d continue your gaming commentary as they were very interesting and enjoyable! This new twist is even better!
Please keep these coming!
0:19 for OOPS CAT
Missing *Sword and Shield* which is the worst because you have to *PAY* for the additional content.
Idk about Splatoon 2 being an unfinished game, really.
Felt pretty finished to me tbh
Nah it's just the servers
*A communication error has occurred*
I did enjoy Star Allies, and I consider myself a Kirby fanboy, but I must admit that it was absolutely unfinished at launch
And to be honest, I think Nintendo's method of 'release it later in a free update' is the best solution for everyone compared to 'delay the game further,' 'overwork staff to finish everything,' 'release an unfinished game and move on', or, god forbid, 'release an unfinished game and finish it with paid DLC', (which albeit seems to be the route they're taking with SwSh, unfortunately)
I'm not saying there isn't a better solution, or that Nintendo is above criticism here, but I think that among the swathes AAA studios constantly releasing unfinished pieces of shit, Nintendo comes out looking *relatively* okay.
Star Allies wasn't a joke. Maybe a bit short but not terrible either.
@@jaybee27D I was talking about the original mm for the WiinU, on second thought it wasn't really unfinished it was just that alot of basic mario entities were missing, and the difficulty sorting algorithm for mario challenge being totally screwed up
With this pattern I can’t wait to see Donkey Konga 4 with one half of the bongos at launch and the other half released 3 years later
Ah, so its basically sword and shield's problem
sword and shield wants money for its practice though it isnt even free
welcome to the internet
Yep
Splatoon 2 and Super Mario Maker 2 are both sequels that focus on online multiplayer, making it common for them to get an abundance of post-launch updates. All the other games are mostly good examples.
Splatoon 2, Animal Crossing New Horizons, and Mario Maker 2 aren’t unfinished games, especially now.
Animal crossing new horizons has less features than the older games and adds new features with drip feed content. Mario maker 2 and splatoon 2 were undercooked. I don't say this because I hate nintendo, I say it because they're going completely down hill and not being called out on it.
@@THRACIA776ISTHEGREATEST yeah, coming from a game like new leaf that has a lot of content you earn over the course of time, the fact animal crossing new horizons has to wait irl and in game time to get that content while still being 60 dollars is insane
even more so if you remember that this game was held off before release to have more work put into it
The worse part is it doesn't have less content than just new leaf.
I like how his voice slowly turns into vinesause Joel around 3:57
Game Freak is so damn lucky they aren't Nintendo, because I'm sure Uncle Al would've had a FIELD DAY with Pokemon Sword and Shield: an unfinished game that makes you PAY for the completed version.
At least they get more content later on unlike most unfinished games.
I’m fine with this approach when it comes to games with a heavy focus on online play, but Kirby Star Allies does this the worst in my opinion.
I love these AL Talks videos. Keep em' up!
Absolutely love this style of video and the work you put into it- well done Al!
Do Kirby right back at ya

Now I want Al to do a Lilo and Stitch dub.
*Yo Al, you forgot Pokémon Sword & Shield!!*
I love these videos so much, they’re funny, and informative
Everybody gangsta till the donkey Kong OC crosses his arms
Luigi's Mansion 3: the game's still good but I don't even bother with it anymore. Probably its because I already got to see what I had to see. Played through it blind, got to the final part, collected all the boos and gems..
DLC: Now you can dress up your scare scraper!
Me: :l
Lovin these new type of videos AL!
Uncle Al: "Nintendo is unfair, incomplete games sold there."
Fanboys: ANGERY
(good video btw)
Actually nobody is mad at him because even as fans of Nintendo, we agree! It also helps that Al himself has shown he's a big fan himself, so its easier and more relative to understand his nitpicks
Talk about SW/SH
You criticised a Kirby game.
Hoo boy, you're not gonna see the end of that unfortunately.
@JOHN JOHN even as a kirby fan star allies felt bland, it felt like an easy version of a game already made to be easy.
@JOHN JOHN I'm not saying I disagree (I haven't played the game so I wouldn't know, and I'm not a fan of the Kirby games I've already played), more that criticising Kirby games in this current day internet climate is kind of a death wish.
Even kirby fans criticized that game
@@supermakermatic2111 even for a generic "oooh the fandom is gonna be unhappy" the kirby fanbase really never is known for their anger, their like what animal crossing fans pretend to be
I also felt like the game was pretty mediocre, Like it just exist. But not as bland as squeak squad.
Mr. De as a huge Kirby fan I disagree and think star allies is well worth the price after the updates.
@@silvergalaxia8538 however given the state of the launch version I cant help but criticize the game for its lack of launch content
Love this content Al, keep doing what you like to do man.
People out wanting you to do your dub videos instead BUT HONESTLY DO WHAT YOU WANT. Personally I prefer this because we get to see more of who you are. Great video keep up the great work!
I actually like the idea of timed release of content
it has the potential to extend the life of the game and incentives exploring what the game has to offer while waiting for the next update
my problem with it is that they wait WAY too long to release these updates, often after the community has already disbanded or moved on to the next game
I actually kind of agree with you on this, there’s to much stuff missing for lots of Nintendo games and it’s really easy to spot the missing stuff in animal crossing, Jesus they don’t even have gyroids yet, you know the thing that’s been in the series since the original one on the N64.
For Nintendo's next trick, releasing unfinished games with no intention of finishing them. Looking at you Sword and Shield.
Wasn't expecting this from an Uncle Al video but I like it. Hope for more like this with the other stuff in future.
Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly is very unfinished.
these are good btw. don't stop.
Yo thanks for being my friend! I knew one day you would put me in as a cameo! God we go way back, I miss our times together!
Your "rantsona" is actually pretty cool lol
Like the drawing style
Everybody gangsta till' Uncle Al crosses his arms
Still relevant to this very day 💀
At least Nintendo doesn't go the Apple route of reselling their portable devices with a slight upgrade every few years......wait...
MESSAGE FOR UNCLE AL
Ok dig some soil and recreate a mountain in 1 minute and when you touch a rock you can't let go and ad more you hold on to it for that minute when it's done
Loving the new video style, it suits you!! Best of luck
They tested this out orginally with splatoon on the wii u and realized it was okay to do for other things probably. Except they forgot that splatoon has a really gratifying gamplay loop and is well fleshed out. Arms didnt have that benefit and kirby especially didnt have it as a single player game.
Your voice fits that gorilla avatar WAY too well.
Came back to this after they added online play to Super Mario Party
In alternate universe, we want every switch games will be delayed rather than free updates.
The Kirby one just kept getting me back in because of those damn updates
I mean if I’m able to play as galactic monsters that tried to kill me
Imma wanna play
Thank you Al, sword and shield is a perfect example of this. Only the patches are never fixed and updates are sold for $30 and at least $15 more to transfer old Pokémon outside the switch. The gameplay also doesn’t feel natural either. I miss a game that truly gets me wrapped in an enjoyable story. :(
Great points made. I'm a bit less pessimistic on this sorta topic but I get where you were coming from. Smash did the content distribution the best when it comes to games with updates.
P.S. love the fear factory music at the end.
great video and fair opinions also (love your master splinter voice)
Ok but
if they released everything at once, there would be NO updates
I sold Kirby Star Allies at launch. It's just Sonic Heroes Kirby style. I never bothered to wait for the updates
As somebody who liked Kirby Star Allies, I can certainly understand. It's not everyone's cup of tea, and extra content wouldn't fix that.
Sea of Thieves is a good example of other companies attempting to pull off the same model as Nintendo but being lambasted at launch. It’s a great game now and Rare is showing no sounds of stopping content (the playerbase is that big).
