You should disconnect backup battery before starting the car.

Connecting a battery has no effect, I had a device plugged into my obd that tells me when the power is cut and with it connected as per this video it still sent me a warning to my phone telling me there was a power cut so it still needs coding in.

2018 should be using battery module by the right side back cago when you take out the math just like fuel, i don't really know if it is the the same position like fuel
