- In this video we show how to change the battery in your Range Rover Sport L494. The battery is located in the boot ( trunk ) and its a little tricky to access but nothing that cannot be done at home with basic tools. We also look at resetting the BMS software with the Gap Diagnostics IID tool.

I was impressed how that spare wheel came out that boot! 💪 I love the way you articulated how to carry out this task 👏
The space saver wheel is just manageable ( well done Destiny ) - the full size spare is a pain in @$$
I own an l322 Westminster and have no need for any of this info but still watched the whole video! You’ve some collection of cars built up fair play.
We need to do a video showing all the cars.... there are quite a lot now !
A well timed video! Our L494 has a slightly different layout of braces etc but the principle was the same, there was also an extra brace at the base of the battery which was a pain without magnetic a socket...
Thanks for the help!
Very helpful video! Thank you for making it! I just replaced the battery in my 2018 RRS.
Lovely job Simon ⭐️⭐️⭐️👍👍👍👏👏👏
A useful challenge again but seeing how impossible it would be to get the full size spare out makes me glad I don’t own one! Good work Destiny…The Boss is training you well! 😃😃😃😃
Not that hard to get the full size spare out - a block &. tackle arrangement is supplied for lifting it.
Great job as always mate
Thanks again!
Any tips on battery brands and models. Or does it have to be the mega dollar Land Rover/Range Rover. Brand?
(We get Century (Yuasa), Exide, Marshall, Optima, AC Delco and Odyssey brands here in Aus 🇦🇺).
Thanks for the excellent video Simon.
The only reason for resetting the BMS is to avoid errors setting before it re-learns the new battery. It's a good idea to reset it if you can. Make sure you reset the windows otherwise the global locking will not work correctly.
Yes i think when the BMS is reset it puts it into full learning mode - without doing this I guess it is looking at the battery behaviour over the pass 1K miles etc and trying to average its behaviour so it could take a while before it fully learns the new battery. Good tip on the windows !
@L663 So in short, Can I just change the battery with bms/without and not reset anything? Will everything work as it should? Thanks
Yes !@@adonisnaturalis
You can safely change the battery without a BMS reset, but you may find that if you have start/stop it will show a fault. It is better to reset it if you can...even a cheap scanner should reset it.
Could a poor condition battery affect the ABS pressure system on initial start up in cold weather (I’m having issues first thing in the morning when car is cold getting it to start) it normally takes a few tries before it starts (doesn’t crank, just ignition goes back off as if you don’t have foot on the brake)
I haven’t been wiggled in ages!
Buy an EVC throttle controller and it has an anti - thief selection for it , we have it for Australia R/Rover and all other car makes .
Boom Boom!! 💥 💥
Recovery hook left hand side. About 7 o’clock where the spare is. There’s a little cut out in the cloth where it slots in
Thanks !
Great to see the mini. Do you sell a light suitable for a use as a third highly visible brake light for a classic mini?
Glad you like the old mini - we had it out a while back

Not sure we have a brake light for the old mini - probably a good idea though !
i will be leaving the range rover L405 stationary for more than a month at the holiday home abroad, which means i will drive the car once in few months, therefore i am willing to install a kill switch to prevent battery flattening, once the battery is disconnected, will i need to reset the car or something? or kill switch on and off would be ok with it? thanks in advance
I’m late to watch this video
👌👌❤️❤️🙏🙏
Late but always welcome !
How’d you get the gate up with a dead battery to get access?
Connect to battery points in engine bay
Do you recommend to have a backup battery/power source connected at jump start connectors under the bonnet to avoid any system issues?
No I think it’s safer to just disconnect battery
say, simon, a bit unrelated but:
for the l663 defender, the my24 models will supposedly be shipping with "driver assistance". in the videos shown, its selected by the blank button on the steering wheel, which apparently every l663 came with, just not lit up. in the manual it also states that "steering assist" will be activatable from there.
this is a feature i really long for. i really really want proper cruise control on my rover, acc as well as lane center keeping (for long drives with a trailer)
do you think we will be getting steering assist on the defender ? also do you think it will be a possibility on pre 24 model years ?
The new Range Rover and Range Rover Sport share a lot of components with the Land Rover Defender.... I should do a quiz on which components it shares !
The fact that it shares many of the same components and software makes me think that there are features they can easily add to the Defender. I think Land Rover has chosen not to do this to justify the massive price tag on the new Range Rover / Range Rover Sport. There may be some hardware needed like "Hands On Detect" on the steering wheel etc but i have already fitted the L406 steering wheel to our last Defender.
@@L663 interesting, and i would like to see a quiz on the hardware differences. i think a lot is down to software but mostly regulations (something something belgium). i can tell, the defender is already tracking the lane itself instead of just the outside line, since when going fast and medium-slow over the line, the car steer back inside the lane, a bit more towarss the center and then steers to the middle of the lane (might be offset depending on how far the lka returned the car towards the center). also there is the emergency lka, which keeps track of all lanes and the cars trajectories afaik.
anyways, always happy to see a new upload of yours in my feed
Simon, forgive me if you have answered this before, but what IID tool are you using?
I am using the GAP Diagnostics Bluetooth tool.
Not all 2017 have a secondary battery… we have a super capacitor instead …
How do you open the boot when the battery is dead?
Good question… connect a battery charger to charge points under the bonnet
My 59 MGA had the battery in the trunk. Almost started a fire one time when the cable wore thru. I bet Destiny couldn't get the full size tire out of my 2008 L322. What a back breaking job that is.🙄
Had the same on an old mini - the exhaust pipe mount broke and the exhaust touched the battery cable and made a short ! car full of smoke ! It took 2 of us to get the full size spare out of the L405 !
@L663 I think there is supposed to be a lifting strap arrangement under my tire but I don't seem to have it. If I ever need that thing I am calling my AA.
