Very good video, I have postponed changing my battery as I thought it would interfere with all the electrics. It's nice to know you only had a problem with the tailgate, I'll give it a go.
Just changed my battery on L405 and the lower tailgate closes now but won’t latch. Upper tailgate is fine. More investigation tomorrow when it’s light again. Thanks for the video, it made things simpler as always.
One note, the compressors/batteries don't all seem to be bolted in like that. Just had to replace the battery in my 2019 405 (North American 3.0 S/C HSE), and, while it looked largely the same, there were many, many more bolts and a few more pieces. You will need an 8mm socket in addition to the 10mm, and you will need a long extension to get all the way to the bottom of the battery, as they've added a dedicated battery mount. Still a pretty easy process and largely the same as in the video, just, 10 bolts instead of 2 and a few more tools. Seems like something that would come as a running change, mine is a July 2018 build. Still, appreciate the video - gave me the confidence to give it a try!
Some have a small battery behind the right panel in the trunk. Mine (2019 Autobiography LWB) doesn't. Is this normal? Any need to reset anything after main battery swap?
@@nickcollins6225 Earlier ones (2012 to, maybe, 2015?) will have the aux battery. LR switched to a different system that only uses the one primary battery for the newer ones. No reprogramming was needed, as far as I know - has been fine since replacement.
Hi Guys love your videos. Can I ask if you connected a power supply to the jumping points under the bonnet. I don't think you did but do you know if any risk in doing so? I am just thinking it would be safer to do that.
Secondary battery is usually located behind the right hand panel in the boot area, just look to your right. The2nd battery is for the start stop system. If that helps.
Thanks for the video, I just changed the battery on a 2017 Range Rover and it worked fine with no errors. I had to do the window button holding trick to get the windows to do "one touch" all the way but apart from that all good!

@powerfulltd, I noticed your boot opened both the top tailgate and bottom tailgate all at the same time at the end of the video. Is that something you can get the l405’s to do as mine only opens the top tailgate? As always, great videos. Thanks
Gravity. Thanks for the reply... for some reason if I press the boot button on my remote only the top half opens, the bottom remains shut until I press the button. Any ideas if this can be changed?
@@deustezza323 No, unfortunetly not. Thinking it might be the newer model years that allow the top and bottom to open together? Perhaps @powerfulukltd comment?
Thanks for the video and crystal clear explanation ! To avoid any electronic issues and need for system reset, what about connecting temporary another battery to the connections in the engine compartment and than replace the main battery of the car ? Do you see any inconvenience to do so ? Thanks and long life to poverfulukltd !
On my Autobiography 2016 the boot keep opening and alarm going off at the same time. The car starts up fine, which means battery has power to start the engine. Because I have a second car and don't do much driving with this one the battery levels drop and causes that. A powerful battery charger of at least 15 amp can come in handy to stop the alarm going off and driving the neighbours mad.
Did you have to re-programme the computer because you fitted a new battery? Also, did you fit an AEG battery because I believe the Range Rover in question is not a start/stop, because as I understand it, AEG batteries are more robust than a 'wet' battery, a good video though, unfortunately, it has prompted some questions from me.
Hi - the battery was fitted was a AGM battery. My Range Rover is start stop. I did not do any reprogramming although i am lead to understand it is recommended...
@@L663Thank you so much for the reply, my Auxiliary battery failed, so I intend to fit a new main battery as well. My RR (Vogue 2015) is not Stop/Start, so I was wondering if I fit an AEG battery or a 'Wet' battery?
I’ve had 2 x new starter motors and they packed in at very awkward moments. Mines a diesel hybrid and When I fire up the car I switch off the start stop. The 1st starter motor was around £700 and the replacement lasted 5 months. Warranty obviously. I think that the start stop is a great idea, but the starter motor obviously can’t cope with it on out vehicles.
Hi , I have a L405 2013 4.4 diesel, it doesn’t have the stop/start when stationary at junctions, so can I get away with just putting in a battery as plug and play so I won’t need to program the car to? Thank you
I think in theory you are supposed to reprogram but you could try disconnecting the main battery when you replace it and it may do a system reset and "relearn" the new battery voltage - all it is doing is sensing battery voltage so I think you will be OK...
Try turning the steering wheel fully to LH lock and fully to RH lock - not had to do this before on an L405 but have needed to do this on the L322 to recalibrate the steering wheel sensor.
@@L663 thanks for coming back to me. I tried that no luck. Took it to a local garage now the suspension is stuck in high position and won’t release. They’ve said it needs to go to approved Land Rover with all the computer tech to reset it.

I have this issue of 'Low Battery Start Engine'. I took the car for a ride and drove around £150 miles on motorway. Next day cleaned the car and door was open for about 3o minutes and then the battery goes dead again. I can find my main battery in the boot but there is no sign of Aux battery anywhere by the side trim (I removed the side panel carpet cover and see all the fuses etc but no aux battery). Is it located elsewhere on 2017 Vogue? I was suspecting my Aux battery is possibly out of breath so I should change it first to see if the problem goes. But can not find it.
Ok figured it out. Had a charger on posts in engine. Once I took charger off Radio blared and everything worked again. Odd but thought you should know. Otherwise same as l405 process with one exception: only 10mm needed
Hi guys, exactly as you show, tail gate same and once closed worked fine. One more thing that’s no issue was my windows don’t do the one press open after battery replacement? Is that a computer reset or is there a press this, hold that, work around, as there is on so many of the other system setups on the land rovers generally? Thanks Just found it, worked straight away on l405. Window reset czcams.com/video/Z2GYdt-Qqt0/video.html

great video. very well instructed, and clear view of all handling...this will be invaluable some day...p.s.,i didn't even know where the battery was...
The compressor frame, combined with that lump of polystyrene, holds the battery down pretty firmly. Good video!
