  • Showing my car audio setup in my home. I was able to put this together for less than a nice home theater receiver and have been very impressed with the quality and output of sound.

Cool setup. I am using two cheap 50 dollar subwoofers in a boxes tuned to around 30hz and surprisingly in room with a little eq they are pretty flat down to 25hz and can go as low as 22 at decent volume I am powering them with PA amplifier (behringer km1700) which is a overkill but i wanted a future proof amplifier.
You can get a decent sound from budget subwoofer if you build a good box

I think you meant 50 AMPS, not watts, from your power supply.
Other than that, pretty cool! I did something similar to add subs to my receiver using some old Pioneer IMPP 12s, an old Kenwood amp and a 40 amp 12volt power supply.
You know, you could source a Dolby Pro Logic decoder and get pseudo-surround from your TV.

Before I sold my hurricane damaged car, I salvaged some high end speakers, amp and crossover. After seeing your video, I wish I'd snatched the Kenwood Excelon DNX8120 out too. I paid over $1,000 for the head unit alone. But, it is over 10-years old today, where ever it is.
I'm thinking about finding someone locally who builds custom speaker enclosures, since I've got a couple grand in those too.
The amp and crossover I saved are/were good stuff too, but I'm thinking I'd power the speakers more conventionally.
Interesting video! Looks like you do good work.

Seems like a simple, clean setup. Makes me wonder actually why it isn't more common. I've thought about doing this a few times, but was always stopped on, "How do I convert the AC to DC" to get to the amp? Admittedly, I didn't put much thought past that. Now that I see how to do it, I may in the future try something like this. Thanks very much!

Nice setup. I made a homemade Bluetooth speaker using 2 infinity reference 963iix 6x9s in a plywood box and a skar audio ix-10 subwoofer in their prefab box all powered by a 4 channel blaupunkt 1804bt amp and a similar power supply just smaller and it sounds amazing way louder and clearer than any Bluetooth speaker I have heard. I made it for 300 dollars and it blows my 500 dollar JBL boom box 2 away! When doing audio for the tv or recreation I recommend building your own sound system with car speakers. It’s fun, it saves money money, and is usually better sounding than store bought.

I recently had my 10" Mirage Omni S10 home subwoofer crap out on me, so since i had some subs and amps collecting dust in the garage, I figured why not? The subs themselves are 12" Boston Acoustics G312-44 in a sealed enclosure and it's powered by a SoundStream Reference 500s (Old school A/B made in USA amp). The amp is running at 1ohm with the subs wired how they are, so they're getting the full 500w between them. To power everything i'm using a 50 Amp Mean-Well 12v power supply with a 5 Farad cap to take a bit of strain off the power supply.

This would work. Youd just want to be sure your reciever could handle 4 ohm speaker loads. Also home theater speakers are usually paper cone or lighter material and require less power to drive effectively, so you might need a higher power reciever to drive the speakers as effectively.

    • @NerdyMeathead
      @NerdyMeathead Před 4 lety +3

@@TheBladeSickness No no . What im saying is . You keep your speakers hooked up to the car amp. You just take the RCA Pre out from the home theater receiver and feed that source into the car amps rca input. Same as you are doing with the car head unit. You right now are taking the rca from the car head unit and feed it to the car amps. You just have to make sure the Home theater reciever Has PRE-OUT on the back.

@@dancerehab1092 ideally you would put two speakers back there in the same position as the front ones but in the rear and maybe toed in a little bit or if your couch is close to the back wall then turn them sideways facing the left and right of you if you cannot turn the rear down in the receiver then you might need to use a potentiometer but if you do this you will get the Dolby ProLogic surround channel it sounds great.

of course with a rear output all you need to do is hook the negatives together on the back speakers you don't actually need to run it off the front channels
What you were wanting to do won't be adding a center channel that would be if you had the proper receiver it would sit in the middle of the left and right speakers and provide all the dialogue but with the method I recommend all the dialogues comes out the speakers as normal

@@zacharydarner7036 That's perfect, I must admit you got me at the poor man's surround sound hahaha. I have understood all that you just said, so right now I will have to hold on and get an extra matching speaker and a potentiometer then I will just run the feeds from the empty two channels. I also need to get a proper sub probably much later on.

Yes soundbar is not the proper speaker it's too small, you could have just buy a home theater 2.1 speaker at cheap price, me I use whatever I have like an 'AIWA mini comp' lying around in my junk room I hook it up it sounded great.. thanks good job

Could just switch out the headunit for a AV receiver with a sub out.

It a little more complicated the that but you can use a av receiver with this type of set up but you would have to turn on and off on the amp manualy and get that speaker thump there are other Way the other ways are going to cost more money

Is there a way I can play ps4 and hear through this kind of speaker set-up?

Never mind Rca's and aux mode 😁 I think I watched too many videos at once lol. Am thinking of making something similar for gaming

Yes! So for example my fire tv plugs directly into my tv and then I just pull aux off the tv and send it to the radio and disable the tv speakers that are internal
