It's called a praxinoscope. It was invented in France in 1877, based on the zoetrope, invented in 1833. I have a praxinoscope with little poseable characters all around it, which lets you create little, stop motion like animations. I got it about 15 years ago.

I saw random dots for the panda one.. you have great perception cuz the lines on the cup gives the demension for the dots so I can see the panda face clearly since the saucer(?) has them separated so only half panda faces are shown I saw the half faces after watching a second time
