The initiative marks the single largest investment in computing and AI by an American academic institution, and will help position the United States to lead the world in preparing for the rapid evolution of computing and AI. At the heart of this endeavor will be the new MIT Stephen A. The goal of the people should become capable of contributing to less well institution so that not only few elites would have a privilege of studying from a good university.
I think you can do it. As long as you're hard working. If you push yourself beyond your limit, MIT might accept you.
The Mechanic I think what Prakhar Gupta is saying is that not all universities are equal academically and that because of that, more amazing people need to come to those universities that are inferior to universities like MIT academically. This gap, gladly, has shortened over the years, but I would say it still exists. I don’t think his point has anything with him wanting to go to MIT.

Ya ! it is correct but if you some papers published or done some internship at good places you can get 100% fully funded scholarship for the college and even west bengal government is giving 35 lacs for doing masters abroad if you are born in west bengal i'm not sure about this information i had read some where
but there are many ways to overcome our income problem but I think the main problem is to get such a high score in GRE and other exams like TOEFL, ILETS etc.

You named your prestigious college of computing after a guy like Mr. Schwarzman, seriously!! He was one of those greedy bankers in the 2008 financial crisis. I appreciate the creation of this fantastic and highly inspirational department of study but there were other people who deserved this honour far far more than this guy. Come on MIT, it's not about money always.....
I am going to apply to MIT this year, because it's my dream school. Maybe I am not perfect in grades, but I have the spirit of a scientific. My society turned their back on me in my projects, however I didn't give up, so I look for more help. And now I have so many people around the world that believe in me and my projects to solve contamination and climate change, so after graduating I will come back to my country and help to industrialize it. I am completely sure that I will get accepted.

How can I become an MIT student from south asia ? Can anyone suggest me what should I do for it ? What is required to be an MIT student ?
You need to be the best in your field, here in India the top rank holder of JEE (joint entrance examination, you do this exam to get in to the best engineering Institutes of India) + you should be a top rank holder (in your country) in science Olympiads or other international science competitions. It's extremely tough to get in there at UG/PG level.
Name yourself good guy and they'll let you in
Good Guy seems to not giving any hint about himself that's why didn't write the name of his country.
Your gonna need good average grades, but that goes for any of these top US schools. Also, you are going to need to take the SAT with essay and and at least two SAT subject tests in a math and a science. to sign up to the SAT you must go to College Boards, they are the people who run the exam.
It is also crucial to have extracurriculars. MIT and other tip universities don't want people who are just really super good in one speciality but have no social skills and can't communicate, cause how are you gonna make a difference if you can't spread your ideas and research? So, community service and extra curriculars in things you are interested in are vital. For example, I play Hockey and sail for sport, I am involved in theatre and I also play piano and sing in choir.
Then you have to apply. MIT currently has an 8.3% acceptance rate, so the chances for anyone are low. But when you apply you will need to write essay's (note the plurral, theres like four or five shorter ones) about yourself and you may or may not be given an interview.
If you are a US citizen or eligable for US citizenship get it. It will make your life easier cause as an overseas applicant the competition is even fiercer.
One thing to note that is important is that you may have everything right and may be able to thrive at MIT but be rejected because random chance. The thing you have to remember is there are a limited number of places and a lot of appilcants who fit the bill. So how do you decide who gets in when all your applicants are stellar good? You can't really so there is an element of luck at play too.
I hope this helps, and even if you don't get into MIT it doesn't mean you can't get into any of the other top schools. The US is a big and wonderful country with other incredible universities like Stanford, Harvard, Caltech and Columbia. MIT is amazing but not the be all end all.
One last thing, you may want to apply for early action depending on your situation it may give you an advantage. Otherwise, once you apply you will find out whether or not you get in on March 14, because math is amazing, MIT recognises this and March 14 is Pi day!!!!

It is not so great that elite institutions are showered with money, while public universities are starved of funds. Funding should be more evenly distributed so that people outside of Ivy League also have a chance to succeed.

This thinking about always competing with others and trying to be the best is what created all our problems , each one wants to succeed at the expense of others . Why don't we respect each other spaces and work with one another , why does someone wants to dominate the other . We're not in a jungle where only the strong survives and besides we're not animals because we can think .
Think about what the US and China can do together for this world if they worked as a team , there probably won't be a single poor or homeless person in this world .
Followed courses at both MIT and another university back home in the Netherlands (mathematics / software science). It was all pretty much the same level of complexity and quality. Must say that most well-known Dutch technical universities (i.e. TU Delft or Eindhoven) are all comparable to MIT. Nevertheless it's one of the better universities out there, especially in the US.

"Ethics" is fucking you guys up. in the past
Think about this way, machine shop, or a factor line. Think of a factory where they build cars. What are there ethics, the people who are in the machine shop, or car factory(building cars)?.
There ethics are to do it right, so it works, to complete the job or task.

Now dont get your "ideas" confused with your ethics , there two different things. Ethics have nothing to do with your idea, your goal, what your creating. People use ethics, to influence really smart people, to kind of control there idea's in the past.
Let me give you a example.
"INTERNSHIPS" and big companies. There putting you in box, but only by "ethics",
Collegiate Competitions ethics for inventions, science,.
To give you a better perspective or something to compare it to. Think of the NCAA football stuff, that is giant block of "ethics" inforced, to be law so. in the past ( so before a.i. and intelligence was big, it was only sports athletes, and music)
So what im saying is, dont let your talents, your abilities your enigeering, turn into how Football players have rules on there talents, and set path way to how they use there abilities. Guess what happends after NCAA football? NFL right?
You know what the NFL to you... RULES on your actions, how you actually use your abilities, and body, It microscopes your talents, to be marketed. How penalties and rules does the NFL have on Talent, the actual sport, the thing somebody worked there how life learning from kid, they put rules on it, sociecty rules, things can and can not do outside and inside the football game. They dont own there abilities anymore, there talents have rules on them, then there body parts are taken in the way of more rules, ( they cant go skydiving, ride a bike with one wheel, i think they call that a unicycle actually).
So what im saying is your talents your ability the way your brain works, how see and enigeer things.... thats a talent, ability just like a football player can hit a tackle or catch a pass ( in the workings of things). Dont let the Ethics get into your mind of it.
And certianly, dont work for the football players(so to speak), that means your working under there rules ( all that shit i listed above).
So when i say you cant type a certian word, or line of code, becuase it might be dangerous. Is that a ethic?
