- Millions of Ukrainians fled their country after Russia’s invasion in February 2022.
Now many are returning to their homes in the east of the country, close to frontline fighting, against official advice.
Many say they are homesick and are returning with their children to rebuild their lives, despite the continuing threat of attack by Russian forces.
Reeta Chakrabarti presents BBC News at Ten reporting by James Waterhouse, who travelled with returning refugees to the city of Pokrovsk in the Donetsk region.

Even while living thousands of miles away in relative peace, I shudder every time about the plight of hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians and other country people who are displaced due to war. Their lives, careers, families and communities are shredded for no fault of theirs. Our prayers for all these refugees from different countries for a better life. All we helpless are able to do is only to Pray, and we do pray for every one of them.

I was also a refugee with two kids and i fully understand that woman's decision. We stayed in Poland for 10 months ( we'll never forget the kindness of polish people), while my husband and elder son were in Ukraine. What a happy event it was when we came back home! I remember the words of my granny who had a newborn baby in 1944 when Germans occupied her village:" I will not live my home. If it's time for us to die, we'll die here, at home". It's just my decision and my point of view, i don't push anyone to come back home. Thank you all guys for your support

As a Muslim myself what is about to say may offend the Muslims but this so the difference between European refugees and non-European refugees in the West. The Eastern European will fight to get their country back.. while the Syrians, Libyans, Moroccans, Tunisian, Indians, Afghanistan have been so comfortable

I think there are 3 other reasons, one refugee status, two visas, and 3 benefits. In the end it was cheaper to come home because they couldn't support themselves earning Ukrainian salaries and paying european prices.

They will have limited health infrastructure when they return to their original part of Ukraine. Ukraine is not part of the EU and there is limited ways to traverse Europe thereby in terms of resources and services. Parts of Ukraine use hospital trains and in India those trains have scope to get operations done if need be. Hospital trains cannot do everything however and so things like (CT/MRI, etc.) scans _(for high risk groups like children or those adults with injury or people beyond their BMI)_ getting those done in Europe were needs for health treatments are preventable or scalable to the limited Ukraine resources and services would be a time saving strategy instead of going all the way back into europe with a subsequent health problem leater since returnin to Ukraine. For those people retruning to Ukraine, they might want to check if there is some sort of modern equivalent to what the British Isles had in the style of an "E111 form" which travel and even tourism could use for health. Prepping paperwork is key. Those in he workplace also have an avenue for their audit trail. If there are thousands returning, it would makes sense to have the European countries keep track of them (keepng in touch) by giving say ten of them _(as peers)_ a used market laptop with linux_simpleSamlPhpOauth2OIDC_OpenID_OIDF on it to log everybody voluntarily. конечно существуют проблемы! военный блок ОДКБ создавался после распада СССР на независимые государства, и подразумевал несколько иные вводные начальные данные для корректной работы. во первых это обьединение на основе содружества государств (о времена, о нравы! застегните назад свою ширинку - это не про секс!) во вторых в блоковый статус было зашито как фундамент - константа понятие скверенитета и независимости государств участников, и никому даже после ударной дозы наркоты в тот момент не приходило в голову что этим будут впоследствии торговать с иными странами или даже блоками стран. и в третьих, народы СССР на момент 1991 года, расходясь по "отдельным квартирам" наверно с огромным трудом себе представляли что у них впереди такое "светлое будущее" в котором они с оружием в руках вместо диалога добрососедства и развития дипломатических отношений между соседними странами, ждет массовый мордобой с применением армеиского оружия в желании подрезать у соседа "пару квадратных метров" ставя этот вопрос в высшей степени радикально - или я или он!
