I enjoy viewing your application of pigments in a spontaneous, intuitive manner. I am thankful I found your You Tube videos, and hope you continue sharing your artistic creations. 12:56
Thanks for your comments Suzanne. I do draw a lot, in my sketchbooks, but not always on my watercolor paper. Many times I will do a few sketchy lines to ‘map out’ my plan before I paint, but not an intricate drawing. Having said that, in the case of when I paint structures like buildings, or when I do an animal or figure, I will have a drawing in place on my watercolor paper. If it’s an intricate drawing I might do it first on a large piece of cartridge paper and then transfer it to my watercolor paper, but that’s rare..I have to admit I mostly freehand draw . I totally believe we should draw everyday, among other things, it helps us understand form which is paramount to an artist.
I am fairly new to watercolor and your style just touches my heart and soul. You are amazingly talented and I so appreciate you sharing you knowledge. I will spend my painting time practicing and employing your techniques to paint loosely. Thank you.
Oh yes I make plenty of mistakes believe me. But I hardly ever say die on a painting .. I will work the strategies out to make it a good finish product in the end
I so admire your style . I'm so inspired and can't wait ti try your technique myself. I will have a long way to go, though, to achieve something as vibrant and interesting as you. Thanks for sharing and teaching. 👏🏻💕👍
That’s gorgeous! It requires a lot of practice to achieve your level but it’s totally worth it. I haven’t got enough words to thank you for sharing your fantastic technique with us🙏🏻💖🌷
Rae - I love your artworks. They have such a strong sense of free style in technique . Thank you also for sharing your technique with us. I learn so much from your video's and I really appreciate tat you take the time and effort to share your gift.
So very enjoyable, even therapeutic, to watch You paint in such a wonderful, joyful, freestyle kind of way, and producing a truly magnificent and beautiful painting! Thank you for sharing your informational and inspirational videos!
Hello Rae....you have no worries about your videos....you have it just right they are very informative, inspirational and enjoyable! I love your loose style. Thank you for your generosity in sharing with us. Looking forward to the next video. Greetings from England. 😘
Rae..Just discovered your fabulous demos. You paint in a style that I am working to achieve. I hope you know how valuable you are to us struggling artist. Please continue. You have a God-given talent for creativity and teaching. Thanks!
Rae, I’ve just recently discovered your channel!!! I absolutely love your style!!! Your demonstrations are so very helpful! Thanks so much! Hugs Marsha
Such a great technique for a loose flowery watery color. I’m trying to work up to giving your technique a go for myself. Thanks you so much for your demo. Very enlightening.
I'm sorry, I wanted to like twice, but it's not possible.:) This is beautiful.. I've already started with hibiscus, and even though I'm new with watercolors, I like it..
thanks, Rae, for another beautiful watercolor lesson...I am continually working to loosen up to a more carefree design..you encourage me...I love your style!
Hi Rae Well I tried it again, managed more white spaces, I enjoyed the fact that it was a stretch and bit by bit get better with the brush. Am taking this painting for my assignment painting for the zoom watercolor class I am doing and will show your painting as well. This week’s assignment demo from the teacher was far too complex for me and this will be a very credible complex substitute. Thanks Rae, am glad to have found your work, I love what you do with a brush. Marguerite
Just stumbled on to your watercolor tutorial… I’ve been watercolor painting for about two years with many different instructors! In every case, I’ve not been happy with my result as I do want to loosen my look. YOUR painting style is amazing and inspiring and I’m a new huge fan and will be hoping to benefit from your tutorials! THANK you… my instructor tells me that sometimes you have to accept who you are as a painter, but I’m not convinced that I cannot learn to paint loosely!❤ 12:56
New to watercolor and new subscriber. Yay! Live love love your videos. They are so lovely and so soothing and encouraging to watch. Explaining your methods and giving tips and techniques along the way really add a punch and content that we can grab hold of and be encouraged to try from. Thank you! Watercolor is so beautiful but I get intimidated pretty easily so thank you for your knowledge and support.
I love your videos. You do a wonderful job. I too now on a 3/8th dagger brush as well as a 1/4th. Trying it your way forces me to loosen up, which is always my goal. Thanks from the USA. 🇺🇸
I discovered your channel today, I love your finished painting as it looks so alive. A very inspirational video as you have such great ability and very generous in sharing your techniques thankyou
I could just watch you dance with your Brush all day!!!! Have any of your students been able to emulate your style? I hope I can and then make it my own! Thanks for the demo. It is stunning.
Hi Carol. Thank you for your question, and I suppose a little bit of me comes out in a lot of my students but they all have their own way of attacking things which I think is wonderful. And really what I’m trying to teach are my technique and approaches to a painting more than anything.
Hi Rae I just found you yesterday. I tried it! I am a beginner so it was quite a stretch. It is going to take time and practice to be able to make such beautiful brush strokes. It was good to attempt, I enjoyed and the mind only thought about painting which is very relaxing. I am pleased with my attempt even though it needed more white spaces. I Thank you, you are an excellent teacher and your video was also rich in bits of extra information Marguerite
So pleased you attempted it and enjoyed it Marguerite, just remember that your interpretation doesn’t have to be exactly the same as mine... my videos are really to show you the techniques and allow you to explore them for yourself. So have fun and enjoy yourself in the process.😊
I really appreciate your painting videos and hope that I can master something to these techniques....they are awesome techniques and your paintings are awesome 👌. Thanks, Sharon in Yukon Territory Canada 🇨🇦😀
c'est magnifique! j'adore votre technique picturale! je découvre vos demos : les explications et les images sont parfaites même en traduction en français ce qui est rarement le cas dans les demos !
I absolutely LOVE this and can't wait to give your techniques a go. I learn something new with each tutorial you post. I have had no luck in using my scrubber brush in the past. It may have been because I attempted to use it while the paint was still damp. I'm going to practice on an old reject and see if that was the problem.
That’s wonderful that you are getting something from each of my videos Klara.. that’s very gratifying for me. I use my scrubber which I wet, but it’s on dry paper. I pre wet the area I want to lift a little, wait till the paper absorbs the moisture, then start scrubbing and blotting. I hope that helps. And thank you for your comment.
Klara Hufnagel Yes, definitely wait until the paper is dry, or it will damage the paper. Some colors lift more easily than others, and some papers lift more easily. Bockingford paper, sold by Dick Blick and available on Amazon, is a paper that allows for easy lifting, although I’m not crazy about the texture of the paper.

Hi. Rae
Thanks for responding to my comment.
The teacher of my zoom class suggested that my painting would have depth if I softened the hard edges of the petals and leaves as you have done. She also suggested that some students might like to also have a loose painting choice for this weeks picture and asked for your link which she put in the chat box.
I really love this picture and after some time passes will try again, being mindful of the soft edges.
Thank you
Marguerite
It’s great if you want to try this one again, more practice will make the exercise easier each time. Sounds like good advice your Zoom teacher gave you.. 👍
