You missed commentary on my favourite part - where she announces 12 months credit for time already served. I know she's just doing her duty, but in context of 762 years, getting 12 months credit is sublime - like salt in the wound!
You missed something that she gave him the credit time not on what he asked for, he wanted the charges of Erika case be dismissed in the time served, which was 9 months for count 76. She gave him time served in a different charge which had a longer sentence

The best bit about him representing himself, is Judge Dorrow brought up the fact that even though his defence was opaque, he used nuance arguments and objections several times. Therefore proving that he is mentally responsible, thus negating that particular defence in his inevitable appeal.

@@cyan_oxy6734 She did after the sentences for the murders. At this stage there is no bias, he has been found guilty by a jury, and she has worked out the sentences prior to the hearing. To work out the sentences she would have used sentencing guidelines and sentences from previous cases similar to this one.

Brooks was in a rage because the woman he had been abusing since she was 14 years old, refused to take his crap any more. She was throwing him off. This loss of control over his decades long victim sent him into such a rage and made him feel so powerless - because he is a nothing - that he deliberately went and hurt as many people as he could. Because it made him feel powerful. People who are nothings, who can do nothing useful or good, nothing creative or helpful, the only thing in their capabilities is to destroy. He still feels nothing about any of it.

Probably the fact that Nicholas Kirby was there with Erica and the other girl, and told him to go away, also didn't help his temper any. He got in a huge tizz when he couldnt get his own way and roared off in a rage.

@@TomikaKelly Inmates have their own code that they go by, and the biggest one is typically along the lines of "You don't pick on the innocents," which usually amounts to children and very old people. He killed children during his rampage, and the inmates don't take lightly to that kind of behavior. Source? I was a former corrections officer, so personal experience.

Interesting that in all the sentences he reacted worse to the order banning him from ever having contact with Erica again. Shows what this was all about, him losing control of her.
My favourite part is that he tried to use his time served to get rid of the battery charge against her and Judge Dorow gave his time served to the first life sentence AND had Erika's battery charge be the last one he has to serve time for consecutive to all other charges. She saw straight through him wanting to continue abusing her. Even better, I believe the GoFundMe for Erika Patterson getting out of Wisconsin has met its goal, so she's going to Texas and she'll never have to deal with him again. Hopefully she is able to get the help she needs and heal from his years of grooming, trafficking, and abusing her.
Judge Dorrow's closing comments were the most cathartic part of the trial FOR ME... after all the antics, hearing her finally speak her mind with eloquence and the victims's own words, putting him exactly in his place 😮💨
I'm so glad I heard her comments. She missed absolutely no part of this trial, despite Brooks best effort to distract and debiltate her like he used to being able to do. He's never met a woman like her before. She's a great inspiration
He was on suicide watch from the jail. He was strapped to a wheelchair because I believe he was non compliant in going to court that day for his Milwaukee cases.
I disagree. It's possible he's combative but he's now a 6 time convicted killer. They would have significantly more restraints over someone yet to be convicted.
Our communities can now begin to really heal. Saw the Dancing Grannies in Cudahy, WI this Sunday and they brought tears to our eyes. They have so much resilience and strength to continue to dance in Parades one year after the tragedy. DB deserves to rot in hell.

I watched the sentencing of Darrell Brooks. Listening to the Judge list every charge for every person was the most compassionate act I've ever seen in a courtroom. After having to deal with him for a month, most of which was him throwing a fit, while she kept her temper. She even read how much time he received for bail jumping. Very important as none of this would have happened if he had never been granted bail over and over again. He had several bench warrants out on him for battery of Erika, he hunts her down before the parade and hits her yet again... setting the entire events of the day in motion. She did everything that she was supposed to, he would get arrested, make bail, not appear, and do it all over again. Something is broken for someone to repeatedly do harm to another, heading to homicide...got interrupted so he mows down strangers at a Christmas parade instead, 6 dead and 67 injured later...
No one wants to build more prisons and jails even though the population goes up everyday. Combine that with half the jail being full of people on PO holds for dirty piss etc. The sad part is they let out guys like dude in order to keep more ppl on PO holds

That's how these people are. If you accuse them of multiple behaviors, they only pounce on the accusation they viewed as the weakest and try to poke holes in it. They just want any victory they can get.
I know the sentences were academic after the first life but to roll them out like that does give each victim a sentence, even if he won't serve them. All I wish for him is a long, long life.
Each life sentence has a mandatory amount of years served before parole could be offered (normally). For example, for one life sentence it could be 25 years mandatory before eligible for a parole hearing. So, since he is given six life sentences, he wouldn't live long enough to earn a parole hearing. If, for example, he had two consecutive life sentences he possibly could have parole in fifty years but after that I doubt he'd live another twenty five if he wasn't granted parole. This way he will never get an opportunity for parole. Although I know she gave him six life sentences without parole.
He gets multiple consecutive life sentences so that if he were to somehow be exonerated on one of the charges based on a technicality, For instance the judge losing her temper and not doing something perfectly by the book. The other sentences will still hold him accountable and he remains behind bars forever.
Erika is MAJOR trigger for him. He was fairly quiet until she was brought up. Like any discrepancies in her testimony can override the fact that he killed 6 people and injured many others. Too bad that state doesn't have the death penalty. And even if it did there will always be that one juror that will be a hold out like in the Parkland verdict.

Like most domestic violence, he thinks this is all her fault because she didn’t just roll over and let him abuse her to death. That is, IF they put Cruz in General Population. I loved when one father told Cruz he would live in fear and terror every moment of his life in prison. He would be someone's BITCH, and he would be passed around like ?_was it cigarettes_? in prison. Fantastic! Now, if it happens that he's put in solitary for protection, that is its OWN kind of Hell (so they say). Plus, I read a comment that stated that IF Cruz is put in solitary, protective custody, something is still likely to go wrong. The prisoners might bribe a guard into "accidentally" letting someone in the shower with Cruz. I've heard that that is what happened with Jeffrey Dahmer. So, the point is, there is still hope that Cruz will get a "Death Penalty", but I'm hoping he spends at least a few months being passed around like prison contraband first. 😈 I just read that a former Florida prison warden said it's likely Cruz will be placed in protective custody, but he will eventually be placed in the General Population when they think it is safer for him. I'm paraphrasing with the following remarks the former warden made. "He'll have to bunk, work, and mingle with other prisoners. He's 5'7" and weighs 130 lbs, so he'll have difficulty protecting himself. He might get a more imposing prisoner to protect him, but that comes with a heavy cost." I don't see why any inmate would agree to protect Cruz, since most of them can likely take that "cost" out of Cruz's ass (literally) whenever they want, even without giving him protection in return.

I just want to say... I am so incredibly glad this man will never get out. He is so incredibly frightening. So grateful for the judge and how well she handled this, and how much grace she gave to the victims.
They had to go out of their way to convince him not to wear orange during the trial. He was very resistant to wearing regular clothing. He seemed to think that people seeing him as a prisoner would make them more sympathetic to him. But then his entire mentality has been that he is just being picked on, in complete denial of everything he did.
If you watch Brooks's face when Judge Dorrow is going over the medical reports of Brooks and it sounds like she sympathizes with him,his eyebrows are up and he has that look of "She is going to be lenient on me",then when the judge starts saying that his mental health didn't cause this,his face is rested and he has that look of,"I'm pissed,and I'm screwed".His face gives away every emotion he is going through and a narcissist has many of those facial expressions.
I was reading his grandmother was saying she said he needed help not punishment, he’s had decades to get help. As an adult, it’s your responsibility to manage your mental health. Even people with low funds have made efforts to manage to their health, especially their mental health, because it can be mission critical to have a job. My parents managed my mental health prior to me being able to drive myself to my appointments.
Its interesting you say, people with low funds. You are exactly right, but the services are terrible or non existent, at least in my case. I am a recovering addict with just over three years sober. I started off with a state appointed psychiatrist. All he wanted to do was write me pills, and get me outta there as fast as possible. I was begging for.more guidance and help, and there was none. Thank goodness i met a mentor in that time, and still to this day i dont have access to many of the services that could really help me. Interesting how that works.

Listening to the Victim Impact statements was so utterly heartbreaking. It's sad he tried so hard to make them feel guilty themselves. He never accepted blame or had any remorse for his evil actions. It sucked, I almost cried my eyes out for those children speaking, but couldn't get a tear out for the rage he made me feel as he rolled his eyes. For each VIS he rolled his eyes or made gestures to show how he wasn't giving a care in the world. I'm glad he's gone and won't be able to hurt anyone, including Erika.
Imagine that. A world where humans find the technology to either live way longer or maybe even forever. And they use that keep the world's worst prisoners alive for as long possible so that they can experience those lonely, boring, and depressing life sentences

He argued to delay sentencing so he had time to contact all the people who would speak on his behalf, claiming there would be 20 or so. Everything he has done in the courtroom was an attempt to delay and deflect. All his tantrums, all his nonsensical objections (claiming hearsay or speculation when there was none) were only to disrupt the proceedings. He was clearly trying to rile the judge so she would lose her cool and he could use it on appeal. It was comical how he was put into time out like a misbehaving toddler. He was totally impotent, and he hated it. Unsurprisingly, only 3 people spoke for him at sentencing. His mother and grandmother were pretty much a given, and all they did was make excuses and claim that the victims need to forgive him. Grandma even plugged her own ministry. It was disgusting and shows where he got his attitudes from.

I know the judge said she had 4 psych evaluations of him and they were fine...... but seeing his behavior I find it REALLY difficult to understand how he DOESN'T have a mental illness. This level of lack of impulse control and low IQ should qualify as mental illness to some degree. He also demonstrates a complete lack of situational awareness and complete lack of critical thinking. ANYBODY intelligent ought to have realized that the antics he displayed would harm his case in front of a jury. The smart thing to have done, is to have allowed a lawyer to speak for him, not annoy the judge at every opportunity which he did, and to display remorse and apologize even if he didn't feel it. Instead he rolls his eyes at the victims on camera...... That would have maybe just maybe given him a slim chance of parole in a few decades. Anybody with half a brain and and ounce of self preservation would have arrived at that conclusion. So the discussion should be at what point does low intelligence become a mental illness? if somebody has 90 you can barely tell the difference at first glance from 100 IQ. If somebody has 30-40 IQ they are clearly and obviously challenged and could probably get away with crimes claiming insanity. A jury would be unlikely to sentence. He looks/sounds like an IQ of 60-70 so I think it's a grey area.

I think the excersise of stating all the life sentences is good it helps to add weight to the sentencing. Darrell may not feel it, but the victims loved ones will and know every persons suffering has been weighed out appropriatly and has been accounted for.
There is no parole for the life sentences. The 762.5 is the years which would have be served just for the secondary counts before parole could be considered.
That's a thing that I find a little odd. Sure, a victim should be able to hold the criminal accountable but he is already going to be locked up forever. What is the point of going through another trial for another issue? Even if there is a financial aspect, it's not like he is ever going to even be able to pay.

His chance for appeal is slim and a lot of that is to be directly credited to the patience and professionalism of Judge Darrow. I know there were times in there where I would not have been able to control myself anywhere near as well as she did.
I watched this live and so many in the chat were saying "she needs to hurry up to the sentencing already!" They didn't understand that everything she did was so that appeal would not be achieved. She was thorough in explaining her reasoning and that was great. She handled everything with grace and professionalism. And it was nice to hear her finally be able to say what she thought about Brooks.
I watched the entire trial,and I agree Duhrell is Evil. But the one thing that stood out to me is the bailiff that sat behind him through the whole trial. All I’m going to say is… I wouldn’t want to sit down and play a game of poker with that guy!
I kept waiting for that guy to hit the switch on those electric shackles ESPECIALLY during the sentencing. I really thought Brooks would feel froggy and attempt to do attack the prosecution or the judge during and it would be required.

The victums statements were absolutly stunning! Strong but not hateful, I call it respectful anger, they have all rights to be angry and frustrated but there was no yelling and hateful speaks. So strong! Erica was called to the stand and he questioned her about her of beeing a bad mom etc. , he teased her or he tryed to tease her and she stud tall against him.

I watched live and brooks said something weird right before the jury came out with the verdict and I can't seem to find it in the replays. He nonchalantly requested to have his shackles removed with a smile. Almost as if he believed the jury would try the "nullification "
Yeah, I couldn't believe that he wanted to be unshackled now that the verdict was coming in, as though he was about to be released as "not guilty" on all 76 charges after killing 6 people (with mandatory life sentences), plus injuring 60-70 others, plus other offences. The best bit about him representing himself, is Judge Dorrow brought up the fact that even though his defence was opaque, he used nuance arguments and objections several times. Therefore proving that he is mentally responsible, thus negating that particular defence in his inevitable appeal.

To work out the sentences she would have used sentencing guidelines and sentences from previous cases similar to this one.

Brooks was in a rage because the woman he had been abusing since she was 14 years old, refused to take his crap any more. She was throwing him off. Even better, I believe the GoFundMe for Erika Patterson getting out of Wisconsin has met its goal, so she's going to Texas and she'll never have to deal with him again. Judge Dorrow's closing comments were the most cathartic part of the trial FOR ME... after all the antics, hearing her finally speak her mind with eloquence and the victims's own words, putting him exactly in his place 😮💨

Our communities can now begin to really heal. Saw the Dancing Grannies in Cudahy, WI this Sunday and they brought tears to our eyes. They have so much resilience and strength to continue to dance in Parades one year after the tragedy. DB deserves to rot in hell.

I watched the sentencing of Darrell Brooks. Listening to the Judge list every charge for every person was the most compassionate act I've ever seen in a courtroom. After having to deal with him for a month, most of which was him throwing a fit, while she kept her temper. She even read how much time he received for bail jumping. Very important as none of this would have happened if he had never been granted bail over and over again. He had several bench warrants out on him for battery of Erika, he hunts her down before the parade and hits her yet again... setting the entire events of the day in motion. She did everything that she was supposed to, he would get arrested, make bail, not appear, and do it all over again. Something is broken for someone to repeatedly do harm to another, heading to homicide...got interrupted so he mows down strangers at a Christmas parade instead, 6 dead and 67 injured later...
No one wants to build more prisons and jails even though the population goes up everyday. Combine that with half the jail being full of people on PO holds for dirty piss etc.
The sad part is they let out guys like dude in order to keep more ppl on PO holds

I know the sentences were academic after the first life but to roll them out like that does give each victim a sentence, even if he won't serve them. All I wish for him is a long, long life.
Each life sentence has a mandatory amount of years served before parole could be offered (normally). For example, for one life sentence it could be 25 years mandatory before eligible for a parole hearing. So, since he is given six life sentences, he wouldn't live long enough to earn a parole hearing. If, for example, he had two consecutive life sentences he possibly could have parole in fifty years but after that I doubt he'd live another twenty five if he wasn't granted parole. This way he will never get an opportunity for parole. Although I know she gave him six life sentences without parole.
He gets multiple consecutive life sentences so that if he were to somehow be exonerated on one of the charges based on a technicality, For instance the judge losing her temper and not doing something perfectly by the book. The other sentences will still hold him accountable and he remains behind bars forever.

Erika is MAJOR trigger for him. He was fairly quiet until she was brought up. Like any discrepancies in her testimony can override the fact that he killed 6 people and injured many others. Too bad that state doesn't have the death penalty. And even if it did there will always be that one juror that will be a hold out like in the Parkland verdict.

Now, if it happens that he's put in solitary for protection, that is its OWN kind of Hell (so they say). The prisoners might bribe a guard into "accidentally" letting someone in the shower with Cruz. I've heard that that is what happened with Jeffrey Dahmer. So, the point is, there is still hope that Cruz will get a "Death Penalty", but I'm hoping he spends at least a few months being passed around like prison contraband first. 😈
I just read that a former Florida prison warden said it's likely Cruz will be placed in protective custody, but he will eventually be placed in the General Population when they think it is safer for him. I'm paraphrasing with the following remarks the former warden made. "He'll have to bunk, work, and mingle with other prisoners. He's 5'7" and weighs 130 lbs, so he'll have difficulty protecting himself. He might get a more imposing prisoner to protect him, but that comes with a heavy cost."
I don't see why any inmate would agree to protect Cruz, since most of them can likely take that "cost" out of Cruz's ass (literally) whenever they want, even without giving him protection in return.

They had to go out of their way to convince him not to wear orange during the trial. He was very resistant to wearing regular clothing. He seemed to think that people seeing him as a prisoner would make them more sympathetic to him. But then his entire mentality has been that he is just being picked on, in complete denial of everything he did.

If you watch Brooks's face when Judge Dorrow is going over the medical reports of Brooks and it sounds like she sympathizes with him,his eyebrows are up and he has that look of "She is going to be lenient on me",then when the judge starts saying that his mental health didn't cause this,his face is rested and he has that look of,"I'm pissed,and I'm screwed".His face gives away every emotion he is going through and a narcissist has many of those facial expressions.
I was reading his grandmother was saying she said he needed help not punishment, he’s had decades to get help. As an adult, it’s your responsibility to manage your mental health. Even people with low funds have made efforts to manage to their health, especially their mental health, because it can be mission critical to have a job. My parents managed my mental health prior to me being able to drive myself to my appointments.

Its interesting you say, people with low funds. You are exactly right, but the services are terrible or non existent, at least in my case. I am a recovering addict with just over three years sober. I started off with a state appointed psychiatrist. All he wanted to do was write me pills, and get me outta there as fast as possible. I was begging for.more guidance and help, and there was none. Thank goodness i met a mentor in that time, and still to this day i dont have access to many of the services that could really help me. Interesting how that works.

Listening to the Victim Impact statements was so utterly heartbreaking. It's sad he tried so hard to make them feel guilty themselves. He never accepted blame or had any remorse for his evil actions. It sucked, I almost cried my eyes out for those children speaking, but couldn't get a tear out for the rage he made me feel as he rolled his eyes. For each VIS he rolled his eyes or made gestures to show how he wasn't giving a care in the world. I'm glad he's gone and won't be able to hurt anyone, including Erika.
It wouldn't have mattered anyway. He was going to prison for the rest of his life regardless of how he acted in court.
I hope they keep him alive long enough to serve all 700 years.

He was clearly trying to rile the judge so she would lose her cool and he could use it on appeal. It was comical how he was put into time out like a misbehaving toddler. He was totally impotent, and he hated it. Unsurprisingly, only 3 people spoke for him at sentencing. His mother and grandmother were pretty much a given, and all they did was make excuses and claim that the victims need to forgive him. Grandma even plugged her own ministry. It was disgusting and shows where he got his attitudes from.
@@Mybpeterson Well I watched the people speaking for him they were mostly arguing for leniency because of mental illness. I know the judge said she had 4 psych evaluations of him and they were fine...... but seeing his behavior I find it REALLY difficult to understand how he DOESN'T have a mental illness. This level of lack of impulse control and low IQ should qualify as mental illness to some degree. He also demonstrates a complete lack of situational awareness and complete lack of critical thinking.
ANYBODY intelligent ought to have realized that the antics he displayed would harm his case in front of a jury. The smart thing to have done, is to have allowed a lawyer to speak for him, not annoy the judge at every opportunity which he did, and to display remorse and apologize even if he didn't feel it. Instead he rolls his eyes at the victims on camera...... That would have maybe just maybe given him a slim chance of parole in a few decades. Anybody with half a brain and and ounce of self preservation would have arrived at that conclusion.
So the discussion should be at what point does low intelligence become a mental illness? if somebody has 90 you can barely tell the difference at first glance from 100 IQ. If somebody has 30-40 IQ they are clearly and obviously challenged and could probably get away with crimes claiming insanity. A jury would be unlikely to sentence. He looks/sounds like an IQ of 60-70 so I think it's a grey area.

I think the excersise of stating all the life sentences is good it helps to add weight to the sentencing. Darrell may not feel it, but the victims loved ones will and know every persons suffering has been weighed out appropriatly and has been accounted for.
I believe the sentence was 6 consecutive life terms + 762.5 years, which means he is eligible for parole in about 500 years.
There is no parole for the life sentences. The 762.5 is the years which would have be served just for the secondary counts before parole could be considered.
Plus his upcoming court cases and I’m wondering if Nevada would extradite him just to get that one of the books and then send him back.
Not if it's life without parole, which I'm pretty sure it is.

Not too long ago he had another hearing on another charge and they rolled him in on a restraint wheelchair. LOL
That's a thing that I find a little odd. Sure, a victim should be able to hold the criminal accountable but he is already going to be locked up forever. What is the point of going through another trial for another issue? Even if there is a financial aspect, it's not like he is ever going to even be able to pay.

His chance for appeal is slim and a lot of that is to be directly credited to the patience and professionalism of Judge Darrow. I know there were times in there where I would not have been able to control myself anywhere near as well as she did.
I watched this live and so many in the chat were saying "she needs to hurry up to the sentencing already!" They didn't understand that everything she did was so that appeal would not be achieved. She was thorough in explaining her reasoning and that was great. She handled everything with grace and professionalism. And it was nice to hear her finally be able to say what she thought about Brooks.
Live close to where this happened, a friend was at the parade --- this event was terrifying to our community. Justice was served

When keeping it "real," goes wrong! He didn't even argue his case during any point of the trial.
During closing statement he tried to argue the car might have had mechanical problems preventing him from stopping.
I watched the entire trial,and I agree Duhrell is Evil. But the one thing that stood out to me is the bailiff that sat behind him through the whole trial. All I’m going to say is… I wouldn’t want to sit down and play a game of poker with that guy!
Not once did that man budge. If anything I sensed a smirk at Brooks’ worst outbursts.

I really thought Brooks would feel froggy and attempt to do attack the prosecution or the judge during and it would be required.
My prediction: One day, DB will run into someone in prison just as bad as he is, that guy will be in a rage, and DB will just happen to be in his way.

I like that, in this limited circumstance, the judge allowed the concerned people in the court room to clap. I appreciate that this should not be allowed but, she showed great empathy for the pain and suffering these people have endured. Bravo Judge.

The victums statements were absolutly stunning! Strong but not hateful, I call it respectful anger, they have all rights to be angry and frustrated but there was no yelling and hateful speaks. So strong!
Erica was called to the stand and he questioned her about her of beeing a bad mom etc. , he teased her or he tryed to tease her and she stud tall against him.

The judge really said, "You went hard" lol Honestly Mr. Brooks pulled one of most fair, patient and compassionate judges you can have and treated her like absolute shit. There was no way he was ever going to get off, but a better attitude could have gone a long way.

I watched live and brooks said something weird right before the jury came out with the verdict and I can't seem to find it in the replays. He nonchalantly requested to have his shackles removed with a smile. Almost as if he believed the jury would try the "nullification "
Yeah, I couldn't believe that he wanted to be unshackled now that the verdict was coming in, as though he was about to be released as "not guilty" on all 76 charges after killing 6 people (with mandatory life sentences), plus injuring 60-70 others, plus other offences. Then, they needed more testimony by the officers there, because he had said that the shackles had "shock" in them. He lies through his teeth - just as we saw in the police interrogation videos. He's obviously got away with lying, sweet-talking & temper tantrums gis entire life. Here's the 1 woman in his life that's not fallen for his antics. What an utter narcissist. And his mother has played his enabler.
