    Also, as a former addict who spent 21 years in a love affair with heroin, I was uncomfortable just thinking about what Jeff was experiencing. I have no idea how he was drinking coke while withdrawals were taking hold! I could barely tolerate Gatorade when I was in withdrawal. The one thing that kept popping in my head was that the cops know Jeff’s condition will precipitously decline as time drags on. They were likely thinking “We’ll try again in a couple hours when he’s really suffering and then we can take advantage of his diminished state.” In my eyes, this is the equivalent of enhanced interrogation. While the officers are not physically harming Jeff, they are watching him “fall off a cliff” while doing nothing to alleviate his suffering. I had to go “cold turkey” in jail prior to serving my prison sentence and it was one of the most difficult things I have ever done. There’s no comfort in jail even under the best of circumstances, so just imagine experiencing the worst migraine you’ve ever had, along with the sensation that some unseen force is trying to extricate your spine from your body, your organs are on fire, the boat is leaking above and below deck, your nose is flowing, throat is dry, you’re dehydrated, agitated, weak and you’re dealing with tremendous cognitive decline… I don’t wish such suffering on any living thing. I’m not making excuses or eschewing responsibility for my actions. I’m merely saying that I truly feel Jeff’s pain because I have experienced something very similar.

    I withdrew off heroine while i was locked up in county in SC. I hadn't been locked up in this particular jail before, and learned from my cell mate, that when the jail nurse comes, if i explain to her whats going on, i would be given soboxone. Boy was i happy to hear that!! So i talk to the nurse, and she explained to me that, i would not be given soboxone, but i would be transferd later that day to the medical pod. Locked down for 7days, 23 hours a day, in a very VERY small cell, sleeping on a floor with a completely shot, ripped up mat. Two other men in there with me (all of use going through withdrawal) we where fucking smashed in tight together, couldn't sleep already, and everyone is shitting, in the open together, NO medications what so ever, got one hour a day to either shower or walk around. It was hell. But after those 7days i was transferred back to general pop, and another 95 days later i was released with time served. Id kind of gotten used to the feeling of being clean, i was so excited to start my life over. Got out and ran home to my moms, avoided all my friends, eventually moved up north for work, and to be around my family. Last year got my first house, and obtained custody of my kids been moving forward since.

      What about pedophiles or a guy who's murdered his family?

    • @BurdieFromHell
      @BurdieFromHell Před rokem

      @Anna I believe that if the cops don't have good enough evidence to overcome a person with a halfway decent legal defense advising them, then the cops don't have good enough evidence in general. Bruce Rivers says it all the time- when you talk to the cops you are basically self-snitching against yourself and sometimes thats all they need to pin shit on you.
      There are lots of psychological studies done about methods of corrosion that cops can use to trick people into saying things they don't mean or confusing them into locking themselves onto a story that isn't necessarily true. The entire weight of the government can seem insurmountable to a person in the general public who may be getting falsely accused. In the event you are being falsely accused, it might be a really really scary situation, and in the panic, you might act or say things that make it all look worse. Cops are allowed to tell the people they are interviewing lies. They can tell you "innocent people don't lawyer up", they can tell you "talking with us can't make things worse if you are actually innocent", they can tell you that you are better off going with their narrative of what happened so you can just get it over with and get sent home.
      In reality, lawyering up doesn't make you guilty. It makes you smart and tired cops on a 9-5 don't like smart people because it means they have to work harder. They would rather wrap the case up and call it a day. Your right to silence and your right to legal representation exists because it is perfectly reasonable to need an expert on your side so that you know your rights before the cops fuck you up the ass with them.
      If you are actually a Murderer or a Pedophile, the evidence and witnesses the cops have to bring you in should speak for itself. But you shouldn't have to do any of the speaking for them and that is your basic rights.

      @@BurdieFromHell Don't you watch true crime documentaries? Sometimes there isn't enough evidence.

    • @BurdieFromHell
      @BurdieFromHell Před rokem +22

      @Anna It's unfortunate when they can't catch a guy who they really think did it, but it's more unfortunate when they catch a guy who didn't do it. In the event they catch a guy who didn't do it, they ruin a poor mans life while the actual person is still out there doing the crime with no added heat from the police. There are so many examples of people sitting in prison for a crime everyone knows they didn't commit, and yet the person still has a hard time leaving the prison. Thats all time you can never get back, and the compensation for the waisted time is never enough, if compensation is given at all.
      When they can't catch the guy who did it, at least he is on their radar and has a lot more heat behind his acts, making it harder for the actual criminal to do their crime before they slip and are caught.
      It does suck really hard to be a victim who hasn't seen justice, but I think it would be worse to be a victim who thought they saw justice until DNA evidence proves you misidentified a person and put them in jail for years and years. Then you have a victim who saw no justice with a guilty conscience for pointing the finger at the wrong guy. It happens all the time.

      That’s 100% not true, as long as you didn’t do it. Actually sometimes the only way to save yourself is to tell your side. I had a rape case once, girl claimed she was raped by this kid in the back of his car. Rape cases are a guaranteed arrest if the suspect doesn’t deny the allegation and provide a viable alibi/counter claim. In this case the 18 year old accused agreed to meet me, told a story of a hookup and showed text messages where the female came on to him wanting to hook up. His story made more sense than hers, he was sincere, he didn’t do it.
      He did not go to jail, in fact I filed the case closed unfounded. If he had said “lawyer” or refused to talk to me he’d have been arrested and charged with rape. Even if you beat that charge in court it can end your normal life forever, not to mention the cost to fight in court. He was innocent, he made the right call to talk to me and saved himself a ton of heartache.
      Now if your ass is guilty you best stfu because I will get incriminating statements out of you every single time.

If a cop re-initiates in interrogation after a suspect decline to speak if the only recourse is the testimony is thrown out and there is no recourse for the cop breaking the rule. Hey Bruce, just a quick tip, you can raise the noise gate on your mic setup so that it takes more volume to activate the microphone amplification. This will solve the echo we hear from the laptop, and it wont affect your voice because when you speak into the mic, your normal talking voice is around 60dBs which is far higher than whatever noise gate you need to filter out background sound. You can adjust the open and close threshold to what works best for you, and most recording software have built ins already so you dont need to buy an external gate.

    Man in Houston Texas when I was 18 I was arrested for 3 marijuana plants because some guy wanted me to sell them to him but I refused and in retaliation called the cops and told them I was a drug dealer. And when the cops raided my house they used false city code violations like standing water to come search our property and when they found the plants the undercover cop who set the whole thing up pulled me aside and made me sign and affidavit saying if I didn’t admit that the plants were mine my parents were likely to lose the house and cars we owned. I went with a lawyer that was a judge in Pasadena, tx but still represented people in court and he ended up getting me a year of probation but later found out the whole thing should have been thrown out since the way they got me to sign the affidavit was pretty much blackmail, ever since then I just stay quiet and refuse to talk to any cop. That one incident ruined my college career and hindered the job opportunities I was able to get for close to 12 years later. I’m about to turn 32 this year and barely feel like I finally have my life back. Wish I was taught at a younger age what this video teaches. I’ve been watching this man for a long time at this point, I was blessed enough today to be able to speak to him directly on the phone and he’s just as energetic and positive as he is in these videos! Love his song reactions especially but the way he can break down things in an entertaining fashion will ensure his channels only continue to grow at a rapid rate!

    Another great video counselor.
    You’re absolutely right and I was thinking the same thing. I was a prosecutor for 4 years before being a patent attorney, I’ll be the first to say it; this is a prosecutor’s worst nightmare.
    It is unbelievable how many times a defense attorney could show these officers violated his rights I mean good hell I think you pointed it out 4-7 times in a 20 minute video; they have like 4 hours of this interrogation footage.

      And it’s hell being on the receiving end of it. I got caught up in a thing once, and though I was completely innocent of some really heavy charges they were throwing at me (for context, it really helped that my ex turned up alive arrested in another state after going on a drug hiatus, and there was more on top of that they were throwing at me!) the cops threw everything in the book at me so far as I can tell, long hours in interrogation employing all sorts of psychological ploys, Extra thorough checks to ensure I wasn’t a mule, got locked in a shower stall for a bit that was extra fun, I caught a extra charge for my improbable escape from that one (they fucked it up), spent weeks in the hole, then somehow not alone in the hole (thankfully he didn’t live up to expectations, in fact we had some similar interests), whole thing was a podunk nightmare lasting for 9 plus weeks. So yeah kiss my job goodbye. They even clipped and cut a really entertaining diss track against me claiming it was from the initial interrogation, even though it was laughably obvious that it was chopped up audio. Never got to talk to a lawyer the whole time. I’ll admit I started the first interview with the usual ‘ I didn’t do it ‘ and ‘ seriously I’d help you if I could ‘ sorts of things it’s true, but it quickly became clear what they wanted to be true and I clammed up that second I realized it and started demanding a public defender. Took a judge to finally order a PD to me. Whole multiple felony case was dropped when we started jury selection, just poof gone. But I now was a recently separated army veteran who’s only civilian employment was cut short by incarceration 2 months in who had lost all his material possessions and basically his entire bank account during that time, and it was pretty fucking clear that the local cops were now banking on slamming me with anything they could once I was a vagrant, I’m actually surprised I managed to escape that county tbh. Whole life hard reset followed

    Thank you so much for empathy for addicts . I never went as far as heroin , but opioids are opioids are the withdrawal from that is just nothing I ever ever want to feel again. I still wake up in a sweat sometimes cause I was reliving it , in my dreams . It was certainly never planned and I am so damn lucky I never found myself on the wrong side of the law and I got out of it with the help of my parents and stayed clean with the help of my dog .

    Heroin withdrawal is one of the worst things I’ve ever experienced. It’s like the flu times a thousand. While at the same time it’s impossible to sit still with the worst restless legs ever, impossible to sleep, puking, diarrhea, whole body aches, headache pounding, nose running, extreme anxiety, extreme depression to the point of wanting to commit suicide, uncontrollable yawning, and the first 24 hours isn’t the worst like people think. It’s more like it peaks at around 3 days and finally start to feel better after about 5 days usually. It depends if it’s heroin, fentanyl, oxys, methadone. If it’s methadone you are going to be very sick for a very long time. A month usually. I don’t wish it on anybody.

    You seriously care a lot about people who almost nobody else seems to care about, those who end up on the wrong side of the law. The sheer fact that you treat the clients with dignity is I think, what makes you a good lawyer and a standup human being.
    We genuinely need more people like you in this world, sir, willing to treat other humans with dignity even if they break laws and do terrible things. Humans are humans at the end of the day.

    I seen another video of Jeff's where the officer claims to have seen Jeff riding his scooter on a highway in the dark but says he lost him and found him later pushing a scooter down the sidewalk. If he lost who he was following in the dark then how could he see well enough to know he was the same man? The officer defeated his own logic on the video. Btw, I like this lawyer! Subbed! 👍

Lol the way you describe throughout the video was absolutely hilarious. Gotta hand it to you man and Jeff awesome on both ends, great reaction, video and way to smack all the police officers that were in the interrogation room. Got to learn a little bit more about the law, because it downright seem like it was like entrapment, but Way to go to Jeff sticking with the first amendment all in all just great all around. Thanks for posting.
