      Shamus Heart ohh cool another smart ass who knows everything. You do realize of course there is still an impact on the environment from acquiring the raw materials to produce the box and plastic that recycling does not fix. Also you are aware if the environmental impacts of the recycling process? I'm not saying that you shouldn't recycle, because recycling is much better than acquiring raw materials. But recycling also creates a footprint, it's just about 80% less than manufacturing from raw materials at least when it comes to plastic. But plastic can only be recycled so many times 6-8. But don't worry we burn it up to make electric so you can charge your car, oops yeah your electric car has emmissions they just aren't coming from your tail pipe but from the electric plant that produces your energy. Not so worried about that as I am the battery from your electric vehicle that clogs and pollutes our environment plus all the damage that comes from harvesting the materials. I find it better to walk to work, or bicycle. I find hybrid vehicles or straight electric to be the worst environmentally speaking. Hell, I would rather you bought a car that only had 8 mpg and just maintained it for the next 20 years, than creating demand by buying a new car every 4 years that gets 40. The raw materials and manufacturing that your consumerism creates is far worse.

      Efficiency and less pollution are not directly related. Nuclear energy is EXTREMELY efficient when compared to diesel and gasoline. But guess what? Nuclear waste as a result has a half-life of either 30 years or 24,000 years depending on what has been used. Which means it will stay radioactive for 60 years and 48,000 years respectively.

That's a safety feature just to get the truck off the road not to drive to the store or across town. You can also get the stuff at any truck stop.

      It's not really a safety feature. It's based on EPA regs instilled during Obama. Without the DEF system on the diesel, it will run better albiet put out more NOx. Adding DEF was a way the obama admin could gimp diesels by pouring piss into the exhaust. I mean, it's a federal offense to delete the DEF system from your diesel but it's more of an offense to gimp diesels, increase costs all the way around and it's a climate change policy that's been forced on us. The DEF system should be removed as soon as possible.

      Use "barrier year long vegetation killer" from TSC and they won't come back (1/2g to 25g water). Be sure to include a squirt of dish soap into your sprayer (surfactant) as it makes the product stick to the foliage vs beading off. Yes Dawn style dish soap. One good squirt per 25 gallons is plenty (roughly 1oz to 20g of water). If you've got heavy growth, you will need to apply again to the soil. It is a foliage eraser, be sure to use a good a flat spray wand and a steady hand. You can close down your nozzle so there's hardly any output and trace along driveway edges (touching the soil) and you won't have to edge (once every other mow quickly run along with a weed eater if your deck can't get close enough). Does wonders for fences as well. Keep it from touching bushes and you can spray around them. I spray around trees as well, keep the over spray off touching the tree as much as possible.....haven't killed one yet (10" trunks and larger). Stays on soil surface, doesn't penetrate. I've eliminated 99% of all weed eating. Works great for grass in driveway cracks. To keep grass out of gravel drives, dilute it to 1/4 gallon per 25g, and don't use the dish soap so it will penetrate the gravel (requires to apply twice as much since it's diluted).

    The way it works, is the engine will de-rate, essentially going into limp mode. So when the engine de-rates, it will drastically limit power, and in higher gears, it won't be able to hold a speed over 5mph.

  • @joshuaduck1631
    @joshuaduck1631 Před 6 lety +5

    DEF is used to reduce nox emissions, its injected into the exhaust stream that causes a chemical reaction reducing the nox while creating nitrogen and water. (EGR also helps reduce nox.) The speed will stay at five miles an hour because the Ecm will limit the throttle.

      @Shellshock361 Před 6 měsíci

      Exactly. DEF doesn't have a real mechanical function. It's an EPA regulated system, that's required in any 2010+ diesels that have more than 75HP. I saw some say it helps clean out the exhaust. I don't think this is necessarily true. Just limits the "harmful" emissions. Your exhaust should still burn correctly without it (but you can't really test this because your car's ECU will limit itself). I've also heard of issues with DEF freezing, which is plausible. It's just majority water mixed with urea. And has a freezing point of about 12 degrees fahrenheit. In this case it caused issues.

    New to the channel. But as a truck driver and back yard mechanic, i can tell you diesel creates more nox than gasoline. Because its not a controlled ignation its caused by compression alone. That reason for def is to reduse nox emissions. Now for the diesel soot, that's the reason for the particulate filter. But a truck driver i can tell you the filters get clogged all the time. So we run bypasses. But i still run def tho we all need to reduce those emissions. Nox is the biggest contributing factor to respiratory problems and cancer.

    I top mine off when it gets to 1/2 tank. At 1/2 tank, a 2 1/2 gallon jug will top it off. The ECM limits engine speed and output when it goes into derate (limp mode). Kiss your warranty goodbye as soon as you plug in that programmer.

    • @rcpilot805

    • @ToTheTopCrane
      @ToTheTopCrane Před 6 lety +3

      rcpilot805, I suppose it's going to be dependent on the dealer. Some may be willing to ignore a programmer. However, the local dealer in my area is denying any powertrain warranty claim if a programmer has been installed. Also, I do believe the ECM records the "fingerprint" of the programmer. So, even if it's uninstalled, the dealer will still know that it had been programmed. I guess it's a risk some are willing to take. To each their own.

    • @jjames5928
      @jjames5928 Před 6 lety +3

      To The Top Crane plugging in a programmer will not void your warranty neither will deleting it , there are people that can program a truck and leave no foot prints , so if something happens install the emissions back on the truck and program back to stock ... I've had mine deleted since it had 29 miles on it and have had it in the shop for waranty 3 times 1 for a turbo actuator , 1 for water pump and 1 for a head gasket. And I have it tuned by DRD

    • @calvinh.8882
      @calvinh.8882 Před 6 lety +1

      If you have engine failure, Ram, GM, Ford will send out a rep to inspect your truck, and when that rep plugs their computer into your truck and sees it has been reprogrammed, then they will void your warranty.. The best thing to do if you're buying a brand new truck, is buy the aftermarket warranty they offer for them, I did with mine, and mine was covered in two different states, so i didn't know either dealer, but i had a $100 deductible.. I wasted two transmissions in mine within 8 months because i re-tuned it with the Bully Dog Triple Pup, a program called "Crazy Larry".. And they was both covered by my aftermarket warranty.. I'll pay $100 deductible for a $6500 trans any day..
      My point is, when a newer truck has a major break down, the manufacture will send out one of their reps, and i think they do that to keep dealerships from doing warranty work on reprogrammed trucks.. Because some dealers don't care if you reprogrammed them, all they care about is getting paid to fix them..

    • @wheels2383
      @wheels2383 Před 6 lety +1

      So the dealer has to prove that the malfunction is related to the programmer before they can deny your claim even still they do nothing but process the claim, FCA (Fiat Chrysler Automobiles) are the only ones who can deny or void your warranty, the dealership can however deny service (meaning they can say they don't want to work on it) even then they would be in violation of their contract with FCA if your vehicle is still within the warranty period. Only the directly related component that you modified can be directly denied warranty. So in the case of a tuner it would be the computer/s. Keep in mind that you may have to fight with the dealership but ultimately they have to prove it caused the failure and it can't be speculation.
      Example 1: Most modern cars keep track of the octane of the fuel used, if your car requires a minimum octane rating of 87 and you run 85 (sorry from CO) you technically are not running the correct fuel which a modification or running the vehicle out of specification. Then say your engine blows up, you always changed and ran the correct oil, weren't hard on it something just happened and cause a engine failure. The only way they could void the warranty on the entire engine is if the failure is directly related to running the wrong fuel the most they can void at by just running the wrong fuel is the fuel system pump or tank.
      Example 2: If you replace your intake air filter not with a cold air or high performance but just general maintenance replacement, if you do not replace it with the OEM filter you have modified your intake. Take note most air filters that fit in your stock housing state they will not void you manufacture warranty this is because by law it cannot. However it can void part of your intake warranty but only the little plastic box, not your throttle body, not your turbo, not your engine and not anything else. The only way they void anything besides the little plastic box is to prove that the filter caused the component failure.
      I have always run cold air intakes, I once had a MAF Sensor failure, they tried to deny the claim on the bases I had changed my intake, however I asked them to prove how it caused the failure and at first they stated the the intake was causing excessive oil build up (it was a wet filter, however the MAF wasn't oily when they pulled it out per the techs observations) then they said it wasn't filtering enough so it was causing a built up of particulate (again per the techs own observations it had no obvious excessive build up), I contact the vehicle manufacture explained the situation and was advised well yes it could void the warranty however if the filter meet their standards and the MAF had no obvious external problem (build up or oil) then it would still be covered. The next day the dealership called and said my truck was ready to be picked up and that it was covered under warranty.
      This is an easy case and sometimes it is much more challenging but just remember you can't be denied just because you made a modification.
      Hope this helps.

    If you somehow got to empty and put into limp mode, you're either oblivious or you were purposely being an idiot.

Also, you should clutch-less shift. You’ll save your clutch in the long run. You are having your foot too far in when shifting. Late answering your question about what happens if you run out of DEF. It happened to me once on our truck also with the G56 manual transmission. There was no throttle input allowed. So in an automatic transmission, that would mean it would go into drive and just idle, about 5mph. But for the manual, it idles in all the gears, and for us with 37" tires, that truck idles in 6th gear at around 39mph, plenty fast enough to drive around. Just lugs the gears, and there was no smoke coming out even though it said 0 miles left to refill DEF. Which probably means there was still some there. The check engine light came on for a DEF code but when we filled back the DEF we cleared the code and truck ran normally.

    • @XxxInTheMiddlexxX

    • @deadfreightwest5956

      DEF is replaced at the oil change interval, 10K miles. It costs a few dollars to do this. If you can't afford that, and you want a diesel, take the bus. I'm sure somebody will say they never refilled the windshield washer fluid tank for the same reason, or put air in their tires, etc.

    • @deadfreightwest5956
      @deadfreightwest5956 Před 6 lety +2

      + Paradoxical Nightmare - Hm, what does a tank of diesel cost, and how often? $50? What's that? Before taxes, that's 1 hour of work for me. How often do I buy DEF? About once a year, same as oil change. Jeebus, quit yer whinin'!

  • @cjeam9199
    @cjeam9199 Před 6 lety +4

    Just fill it up. How useless do you have to be to not pay attention to the gauge which tells you very clearly how much you have remaining!
    Also, it is absolutely the case that despite the pollution caused during the production of the batteries, electric vehicles are cleaner than gas or diesel vehicles. This is especially true when exclusively considering the emissions harmful to human health that DEF is designed to avoid, since electric cars emit none of those emissions. Once you have deleted your truck please go stand by the tail pipe and breath in deeply for 30 seconds every time you drive it, if you’re going to negatively affect everyone else’s health you should enjoy that experience too.

      Hunter Atkinson Please don’t.
      It irritates me when people do not acknowledge the negative health effects (regardless of the environmental ones) of diesel or vehicle exhaust. This guy is going to delete his emissions system because everyone else is doing it and he’s not enough of an adult to deal with the _exceptionally_ minor inconvenience of occasionally filling the tank up.

    • @ThatGuy_Hunter
      @ThatGuy_Hunter Před 6 lety

      cjeam that doesn’t make him not an adult, he obviously did to make the video, as a step towards the actual delete video. Keep wishing harm an people and you may catch that luck yourself. Don’t need to be an asshole to be heard.

    • @cjeam9199
      @cjeam9199 Před 6 lety

      Hunter Atkinson I’m not saying he should gas himself with his exhaust, but if you make your emissions worse you should have to breathe that air too alongside everyone.

    • @ThatGuy_Hunter
      @ThatGuy_Hunter Před 6 lety

    Hey, Ryan, Leonard here. I've got a 2018 CrewCab 3500 Tradesman CTD G56 that I use primarily for driving around & going to work. Ignore the negativity. 🤔 Anyway, I thought the DEF gave lots of warning before running dry...?... I read the owner's manual & it does state you'll be shut down to 5mph if DEF runs out. I've got about 2,100 miles on mine, DEF still 3/4 full. Once it gets to 1/2, I'll top it off.🤔
