  • Mixing red with violet and orange (and making/mixing magenta and cyan during this live as well!)
    So eventually this live stream turned out to be quite an adventure in mixing this triad. Not only did we make an improved red, we mixed a magenta! a cyan! and a very nice vibrant yellow! Only with the use of PG, PV and PO pigments!!!
    Thanks for joining and watching!

    I would be using a rubber or silicone spatula to scoop up that beautifully pigmented mess you’re cleaning up, lol!

      That might even make it more of a mess 😅😅 but I get what you’re saying!

    Can you share the database link you reference around 10:00? Im familiar with Handprints of course, but that extra knowledge is great for needing out and getting that deeper understanding of pigment. If you mention it later in the video, I stopped to write this LOL! Thank you, and LOVE your HUGE PANS! I am playing with triads to fill them up with!

      Absolutely! It’s sadtuna.org/paints/brands/schmincke-horadam-aquarell-series-14 (for for instance Schmincke) I’m on there too but I haven’t added the hue data yet to my paints.

    This was such an exciting session. Wow!!! GREAT color mixes. 🎉 Thank you, Laurens. BTW, I think because you're going live, I don't get a reminder until the stream actually starts. Are you thinking about making set times so watchers can plan to watch?

      That’s a good one! This week was actually just a wild experiment which already gave me lots of amazing people I got to know a bit! So let me have a look how I can set that up!

    What does it mean when you say a certain color pigment is the “most chromatic”?

    • @dirtyblueshop
      @dirtyblueshop  Před rokem +1

      It’s the most vibrant, most colorful and most saturated orange. But also most of all the pigments. But if anyone else has a better explanation, feel free to add 😄

      @@dirtyblueshop Thank you! That makes sense. That is kind of what I was thinking, but wasn’t quite sure. Could one say the highest tinting strength also? (I’m still learning all the lingo.)
      ie dioxazine purple has a very high tinting strength and will overpower most other colors in mixes. One could say dioxazine purple is a high chroma, or highly chromatic color..?

    • @dirtyblueshop
      @dirtyblueshop  Před rokem +1

      Not really. The way I measure colors are in Chroma, Hue and Value. Those colors (or pigments) have characteristics like tinting strength, drying shift, how staining they are or if they’re granulating (and such..). When the maximum chroma would be 100, dioxazine violet would only be a little over 30, it’s a very tinting color for sure, pure that color in its pure form isn’t very chromatic. For a violet, cobalt violet would be one with the highest chroma, but it has a very poor tinting strength. Pyrrole orange, PO73 has a chroma of (around) 95! So there’s a big difference in that. Let me think of a video about this!

    Well, I bought some grit and will prep my glass plate and muller tomorrow. And yesterday I put in an order at Kremer for prepaired watercolor medium (Kremer catalog #79260). Maybe this weekend I'll make my first batch of watercolour paint.

      UPS has changed my delivery date to Monday. So no chance of this weekend. Other than that I would have made a nice Mayan blue, PB 82 by now.
