Early look at the Tecnam P2012 by FlightSim Studio AG in Microsoft Flight Simulator

  • The developers at FlightSim Studio AG have kindly reached out to me and sent an advance copy of their next aircraft in Flight Simulator - the Tecnam P2012. First impressions? It's very good. It's been developed in cooperation with a real-world P2012 operator, and includes demonstration videos from the real pilots, recorded during the work with the development team. I haven't been this impressed with a new plane for the sim in quite some time - and even though I'm not a huge fan of glass cockpits, I have to admit this one is seriously good.

    I have the Tecnam P2006 and it's one of the best planes in my hanger. One of my favorite things is whenever I get in the plane, switches are in different positions. Then the pre flight walk around is great. No other plane I have does all this. So seeing this Tecnam P2012 looks like the big brother of the 2006, it will be a definite buy for me. Nice modern planes.

      Speaking for myself, the features and quality looked great, but the plane just didn’t interest me. A slow rotax high wing twin trainer seems quite boring to me.

    28:58 - Props aren't used to slow an aircraft down in this way. Pulling the props back too far can stall (mechanically not aerodynamically) the engines at low manifold pressure.

    I bought it, it's a great plane to fly and has a lot of nice features. However, I have issues with the Garmin G1000BXi, the CDI and Bearings buttons do not work, making the use of the autopilot a pain in the rear. Very disappointing.

    How are you quick opening Little Nav Map?

  • @BobC250
    @BobC250 Před 7 měsíci +1

    Jonathan, you do realize that you can press NAV on the AP when the CDI is selected to VOR/LOC mode, and it will track towards the VOR automatically? It's just that you talked about tracking to a VOR, set up your freqs etc, but then left the AP in HDG mode. Seemed odd. Tracking towards VORs with the AP in NAV mode works great in the Working Title G1000 NXi. Also, when you said "This aircraft doesn't have reverse pitch". Actually no piston aircraft have reverse pitch. It's only turbo props and some radial engines that have sufficient torque to set the props into beta and not back-stress the engine. Finally, what you were doing with the props on finals wasn't correct at all. You don't pull prop levers back to such low RPMs at low speeds. They should be set to max for landing and speed/power controlled only with the throttles. I think you were confusing the high pitched sound of the props with 'power'. In a constant speed set up like this, the props will be a constant drone on approach, regardless of power level. I gulped when I saw how far back you pulled those props! In a real aircraft that could have cut the engines (very course blades with insufficient thust would cause too much drag on the engine, potentially dragging them to stop - a little like going into feathered while in the air). I hope you take this feedback in good faith. It's only given to improve your understanding, for your videos.

    • @jonbeckett
      @jonbeckett  Před 7 měsíci

      I know I'm not using the engines and propellers correctly - there's a pretty good reason for it though - I don't have levers for the propeller RPM, so have to look away to control them - which I often don't have time to do without losing control of the aircraft (especially the more accurately simulated ones - this one is a handful at low speed in cross-winds) :) The only way around it will be to get a Honeycomb Alpha quadrant, or something similar - I've seen them, but have been hesitant because they are a lot of money for a very cheaply made device.
      And taken in good faith :) Knowledgeable feedback is always appreciated. One of the first things I had to do when the channel started picking up traffic was to get a very thick skin :) As it says at the top of the about page - I'm not a real pilot - and I doubt there are many real pilots around (except perhaps the late Eric Winkle Brown) that have flown as many types as we get to in the simulator - all without any ground school, or study. Something I have noticed however is the most veciferous critics have very rarely shared anything they have done with the community at all.

    This would really have to stand out for me to consider it. Ive not liked the tecnam p2006

  • @expressticket
    @expressticket Před měsícem

    The performance is way over-tuned on this. Good luck getting 500 ft/min climb with a normal passenger load on a day higher than 30C. The roll rate should be about a third of what it is showing here, with full roll demand sometimes not being enough to counter a 15 knot gust. Additionally, once you set the throttles for takeoff, you leave them max until you are ready to land; power is adjusted by use of prop levers only as these engines have a pseudo fadec system. Also, the nose trim should be almost max down in level cruise with a CG within limits, and you should have to hold constant forward pressure on the yoke with full nose down trim to get it to descend. The plane also fails to do the traditional “Tecnam lean” on landing in which you have to jam a rudder pedal opposite direction to get the side that decided to have a sticky landing gear strut to finally compress and settle. Oh, and how did your fuel selector stay in place? Those screws that hold them in place (they don’t fall off, just become loose) often vibrate themselves out. I’m sure there are other issues with the accuracy of this add-on, but I’m only going to type so much haha.
    - Former P2012 “[NICKNAME REDACTED]” Traveler pilot IRL (glad to be flying bigger and better things now)
    Edited to remove potentially damaging nickname
    P.S. Do not ask who I worked for, I left on good standing, but certain companies can be vindictive.
