  • In this video I am trying to show the difference between Jamie goodman and Legomanbiffo, mainly the engine sound has I believe one is better then the other in a depot layout over running around a much bigger environment.
Too me, each project has its Pros/Cons but both are a little dated and don't make use of the new firmware functionality ESU has implenemented like sound repoduction, one of them even shows a name, V4 sound project when connected to a Lokprogrammer and you see the sound file data.
I know in the past when the ESU V5 decoders became available, the sound projects for previous versions had to be changed to make then work correctly, if my broken brain is remembering right....
    So back to the video.
Has a passenger on a train, the sound of the loco in front will sound different from a coach window compared to being in the cab, the sound is also different again from the side of the engine.
From a Passenger point of view:
From a passenger window, the sound recording will be more muffled due to wind turbulence making it different from the original source, this sound is what the passenger will think is the true sound coming from the loco up front.
From the Locomotive point of view:
Depending on where the microphone is placed the sound will always be different, however we only want the noise of the engine more then anything. With good mic placements, time and effort by the sound editor and use of audio editing software, they can reproduce something that is close to the original, which is what he end user wants.
For me I want the sound of the loco engine and turbo whine (If it has one) without all the wind muffling distortion that you would get via a coach window. This is what I am trying to show in this video.
    What are your thoughts ?
    (1) You want the same has me.
    (2) All thrash and angry noise.
    (3) Be a passenger with the muffled sound.
    (4) Don't care I want sound.
    Comments welcomed.

I preferred the second one. As you know we have a 33 on the SDR and that sounded more like the second one.
There are some sounds they include that are completely useless unless you are a small human sat in a cab. I.e. radio, calling on shunting, light switches.
All I want is start up, idel, notches, 3-4 horns, flange squeal, guard whistle, brake sounds. The sounds you would hear from a distance as that is effectively what you are.... a spectator of a miniature version of a loco.
