Gronkston started its life in the early 1970s has a loft railway that was built by my father over a 10+ year time period.
The layout included 8 ovals, Station terminus that held 12 coach trains in each of its 5 platforms plus two shorter bay platforms for branch trains, an extremely large good yard and associated facilities for freight, Steam and Diesel service yard, 12 road engine shed, turntable, Coach stabling points, a very large bridge section and a viaduct along one side covering around 15 feet, two branch lines weaving around, under and over the main ovals and terminating to a medium sized country station, triangle for stock turning, return loops through complex junctions back to the terminus.
At the end of 2018 Gronkston (Exhibition Layout) was sold to fund a new project called "Alesmead",The 7mm layout would span 30 feet over multiple baseboards covering a Diesel Depot, Station and Clay Dyers. Currently the Depot is built, Phase two (Station & Clay Dryers) build from 2024.

In this video I am trying to show the difference between Jamie goodman and Legomanbiffo, mainly the engine sound has I believe one is better then the other in a depot layout over running around a much bigger environment. Too me, each project has its Pros/Cons but both are a little dated and don't make use of the new firmware functionality ESU has implenemented like sound repoduction, one of the...

This is just a quick run of my Dapol Gronk now fitted with an Loksound v5 with the HiFi sound file from Roads and Rails. At time of order I also added the stay alive to the order and requested it be the 20 second one but sadly what I got wasn’t what I asked for and instead the stay aliv...

Ian, take it easy, sir. I know how it feels. Can't be too personal here but will Welfare Rights not help you, or have you tried that road already? C.A.B. should help with filling in forms at the least. All the best, sir. See you again soon.
Look after yourself, get well and will be waiting for your return.
I agree, the stress of applying and trying to get P.I.P. is just too much. I looked at the forms and panick sets in. I hate anything like that, and I suffer from anxiety and stress along with other problems, both mentally and physically. It can cause more issues than you have to start with. We are the people it is supposed to help. It's ridiculous.
I'm sorry to hear about your health. The priority is to take care of yourself. Don't rush into anything. Take your time and only do what you feel you can cope with. Look after yourself take time to get better.
Speaking from similar exeriences, DWP are absolute c**s. Don't know how they get away with it.
Do take care of your health my friend. Taz here.
I preferred the second one. As you know we have a 33 on the SDR and that sounded more like the second one. There are some sounds they include that are completely useless unless you are a small human sat in a cab. I.e. radio, calling on shunting, light switches. All I want is start up, idel, notches, 3-4 horns, flange squeal, guard whistle, brake sounds. The sounds you would hear from a distance as that is effectively what you are.... a spectator of a miniature version of a loco.
Please stick to your Ford fiesta !
The Westinghouse is the best
Takes quite a while to master the Davis and Metcalfe brake 3:04 3:07
That one just wasnt firing on all cylinders, requires routine maintenance Valenta at the back
Yes, I'm going to wait for another run od TTA wagons to get a different one too. Currently don't have what I'm looking for at the mo
Moving forward for loco stock for O gauge, I’m going for preservation now. That way I can have an abundance of mixed liveries from any period over locking down to 2000-2020. I would have gotten Western Champion when it was on sale but didn’t have funds to permit it……. That’s pretty much the problem I get all the time now….
@@GronkstonModelRailway Rails still have them cheap.
As a child I used to think that the Australian XPT was a steam train because of all of the smoke that came out of it.
Look forward to more. Nice shunting. Hi from NZ. Have subscribed!
Superb driving a Peak! I drove a class 52 Western several times on the SVR and later a Hoover class 50.
A nice shunting session. The new decoder sounds good. Thanks for the post. Cheers!
What's this about it says lagging but don't show how fix lagging

2:54 ❤Nice video Ian, very instructive , beautiful system you've got there. Jeroen_Captain
Rather you than me! N gauge is so tiny compared to O, so hope it all goes well for you.
I’ll be giving James a call about suitable point motors and Z21 control when I get to the electrical stage, mainly for costing. Also need to think about the O gauge CDA loading building once the baseboards are built and I know what sort of space is available to have one. Or a possibility of repurpose some of your kits to make it. Unless your thinking of venturing into one to sell 😉
@@GronkstonModelRailway I think next years designs are booked in the diary.... doesn't feature one I'm afraid. No doubt things will change as they always do. Dunno why I plan sometimes...lol
@@SteveSmithRailways , Oh goodie, I like new stuff and I wait with fingers crossed. Hopefully I’ll have enough space for a small station and signal box on the second phase of Alesmead.
To fast to appreciate the fantastic photos
Notch 5 then slams on the brake. The linespeed is only 25 mph at best. No need to treat the old girl so harshly. The instructor should have intervened.
Was that someone singing the Angelic Salutation at 0'57''?
Awesome sound on the loco, what type of speaker are you using in this?
EM2 inside the body mounted above the sound decoder.
Hi, this sounds so good I’m going to load it onto my Hornby class 31 network rail loco, Roads and rails have videos on all the Esu free sound files, thanks for sharing.
Hi, this sounds very good, I might download for my Bachmann DB schenker class 37, thanks for sharing.
Hi. What is the difference between hifi ESU sound decoders and regular ESU decoders, as these hifi ones tend to be cheaper? Are they inferior? Just trying to get my head around them, and can’t seem to find an answer. Thanks in advance 👍🏻
The decoders I use are standard v5XL that has the latest firmware that gets installed onto the decoder when putting the HiFi sound project onto it. The decoders price is the same has always, so I don’t know what your talking about for pricing, unless you where looking at the cheaper ones that don’t have motor drive which is what ESU released earlier in the year. The v5MLK 21pin sound decoder has a different power output for lighting functions that require it such has Dapols later Class 08 that doesn’t have a top light. If your modelling a smaller scale you need to check the model manufacturers instructions for which one to use in its product. You can aways call Roads & Rails or visit their website for the right version requirements for what model you have.
@@GronkstonModelRailway thanks. Hifi decoders are described as budget decoders on DC Kits with Legomanbiffo sound files, and are significantly cheaper than the regular sound file for a 37 (£90 v £125)…hence why I’m talking price in my valid question 👍🏻
@@Eccles_Hall give richard a call at Roads and Rails to make sure what your getting for the cheaper version decoder. Has far as for me the only thing HiFi is the sound files available from ESUs download section not the decoder its going on. My knowledge of the different smaller decoders is limited has I only model O gauge locos that need the v5XL version and the Dapol 08 requires an 21MLK which I have not done yet has its still got a Zimo. Biffos HiFi class 31 is a little different than the free ESU, both are very clear and you wouldn’t be disappointed in either, the only thing I haven’t done yet is see how the free one drives the motors has my EcoS died and I’m waiting for an Roco Z21XL to be delivered when ever that will be……
@@Eccles_Hall I’ve just been onto the Roads and Rails site and what they list has “HiFi decoder” is a standard V5 with the free ESU sound installed on it, its the same decoder for any other sound project. Nothing different, They are basically selling the decoder at its normal rrp with possible a small charge for installing the sound onto the decoder. So if you wanted anything else you pay the price for the sound project that they install on the blank sound decoder. I can’t give you any more help on your enquiry has I’m the wrong person to ask. Call the retailer.
That sounds pretty good. Class 50 next 🤞🏻
I hope they do all the UK diesel.
Wow! What a nice sounding loco ❤
For a free download it’s certainly very good.
The hifi range do sound that bit better has to be said!😊
I’m hoping they bring the rest of the classes out over time. The notching seem to be the same on each project (7-8). The drive hold works well so you have plenty of time learning to get the most from notching up and down manually. No wheel slipping function, but you can still (sort of) simulate that quickly switching drive hold and notching with functions 6,7,8.
Sounds fantastic. Lovin it ❤️
Glad you like it!
Tractortastic!
Sounds nuts in person.
The new project will keep you busy. Very promising. At 3 feet wide, will you be able to reach the cassette track? Maybe you have access from the right hand end. Those china clay wagons will look great once weathered, And the 37 & 50 class are perfect for the theme.
Good to see that it's keeping you busy and the mind occupied Ian.
Is good therapy when I can spend money 😂. Wish I had more of it. I’m thinking of using the Wagon shed I have on the extension has it needs a home, but was wondering if it could be raised with a brick wall so it can take the higher box wagons, so I may need something else from you later in the year.
I have the 47 also in drs sound this is the remodelled version with working fans
I love these workhorses
Love it I had 47404 for a little while probably the same one from chrises crafts
I have the same depot but in oo guage I really like the drs livery in which I have a sound fitted 37 and a 68.
I often get the blame for things.....lol. Stick to the O gauge mate. A layout is never finished, so there's always things that can be changed or added. Keep up the good work Ian. Best Wishes Steve @ Railway Laser Lines
The more I see your twin road OO shed your currently developing the more Impressed I am and forget it’s not O gauge 😂😂😂😂.
Solution is simple; remove one motor and set motor settings of the DCC decoder For a cordless motor. Mine runs smooth, silent and without hiccups
Watch getting involved 😂 Tractor sounds mean, enjoy ripping it around that depot Ian. Gantry looks well, keep it going! Finally - stop moaning so much!😂 Don't worry! Be happy! Dooo doo doododododooooo 😉 All the best chap!🤟😎
You've done a grand job scratch building that gantry from the kits sent to you....nice one and look forward to seeing the lights on it too.
We are in Dorset, and only put the heating on this week, due to the cost.
Nice to see everything improving and developing. It's always fun to watch your video's. Greetz from Little-Dragon
Cheers buddy, I don’t play WoT much again. I’m more into Warcraft has the new expansion goes live next month.
The new Dapol wagons look very nice indeed. I could be tempted by one just to sit it on the shelf!
If I had more disposable money and space, I would definitely have a small rake of Ten.
Layout looks better that way round so good decision. Hope things are ok with you under the recent circumstances Ian.
I’m ok Steve, becoming a home owner and not having a job will be difficult to pay for anything including bills, so hobbies will have to come last. I still need to make another gantry with lights so the depot can be fully illuminated, once I have some spare pennies I will put in an order with you for the kits I need to knock one together.
Thank you so much for sharing! Super informative camera zoom test video creation congratulations too! Nice musical! Good day! 👍🍀🇭🇺🌞☝️
yo..Ian..we wish you all the best..continue the nice project..
Thank you, I will
