In this video I scientifically review and test the Garmin Venu 2 Plus. I test the sleep tracking, heart rate accuracy, SpO2, oxygen saturation and GPS accuracy. I also compare the Garmin Venu 2 Plus against the Garmin Venu 2, Garmin Vivomove Sport and Apple Watch Series 7. The Garmin Venu 2 Plus is quite good at heart rate tracking, though surprisingly it is not as good as the Garmin Venu 2 that I tested in a previous video. The Apple Watch is a really good heart rate tracker, and it basically outperforms all other watches when it comes to heart rate accuracy. The Garmin Vivomove sport performed much better as a sleep tracker, which is surprising, given that it is much cheaper.
Intro: With the new Garmin Venu 2 Plus, Garmin is moving more and more into full smartwatch territory, as the Venu 2 Plus now includes a speaker and microphone, allowing you to take calls on your wrist and integrating voice assistants. However, the price-tag is also higher, with a release price of 450 dollars, which is even more than what you pay for the baseline model of the latest Apple Watch. The release price is also 50 dollars more than the very similar Garmin Venu 2. So, is the Venu 2 Plus worth that kind of money?
I will scientifically test the accuracy of the different features of the Garmin Venu 2 Plus. I will look at the sleep tracking, heart rate measurements, oxygen saturation measurements and GPS accuracy. I will also compare it to the “normal” Garmin Venu 2 and the Apple Watch 7, and finally I’ll briefly compare it to the new and much cheaper Garmin Vivomove Sport. Spoiler, the Vivomove Sport actually vastly outperformed the Garmin Venu 2 Plus in one area.
Conclusion:
However, taking into account all features, I have mixed feelings about the Garmin Venu 2 Plus. The original Venu 2 performed better at heart rate tracking when I tested that a few months back, even though the sensors are the same as those in the Venu 2 Plus. I am not sure if anything changed internally in the watch that could cause some interference or if something changed in the processing of the signal. Alternatively, it could be just a fluke, and with more testing it could perform better. Still, the Venu 2 Plus is among some of the better wrist-worn heart rate trackers out there. On the other hand, the sleep tracking is pretty bad, and weirdly the much cheaper Garmin Vivomove Sport performs consistently better.
Nevertheless, if you are a runner or a cyclist, and you want to track your heart rate and your GPS position, I think the Garmin Venu 2 Plus is a good choice. However, since personally I do not really use the voice assistant integration, and I am also not a fan of taking calls from my wrist and playing music on a watch, I would rather opt for the original Venu 2, which you can probably find for 100 dollars less than the Venu 2 Plus. If you are an android user, you might actually also want to take a look at the Huawei Watch GT 3, which has great heart rate tracking and that video is linked here. If you want the best smartwatch experience and great heart rate tracking, the Apple Watch 7 is an even better choice. However, the Apple Watch has much poorer battery life and also requires an iPhone.

Can you please do video on best Indian budget friendly smartwatches please 🙏
NO WAY! I literally commented on your video with the Garmin Venu 2, requesting you to do one now on the Plus, and you upload it the NEXT DAY??! Absolutely awesome channel, and great videos. Thank you so much. Sending your content to my friends that're as interested in wearables as I am, which your channel is the best hands down on CZcams in analyzing.
Seriously, really impressed. Thank you!
Wow Brenden, thank you so much, that is really kind😊. It is so motiving to get positive feedback like this, really appreciated!!😄
This was awesome Rob. Amazing work as usual!
Thanks Dave! I am still playing with how "clickable" / "clickbaity" to make my thumbnails. I hope the content matches the first impression😊
Thank you so much for providing objective measurements and comparisons. We are trying to live better using data, but that’s only helpful if the data is reliable.
Thanks so much Jonathan!!
It is one of the best reviews I have seen. All other reviewers concentrate on same stuff, but You do not compare the results only to competition but prove it with pro devices. Great review hope to see this to be present in more reviews for other gadgets/hardware like laptops etc. Big thumbs up for the effort and pro approach.
Thanks so much Radek! I am still figuring out how to best structure my videos, so lets see how that develops over time. Hopefully most people will be happy with any changes/additions I make to the videos😊
Thank you so much for this great review! I was hoping that you will test it soon.... and here it is 😀👍
Additionally to my comment:Do you think there is an improvement in sleep tracking between venu 1 and venu 2 (not plus)? Thank you 😊
Thank you for your work, it's such a value for so many who are looking for anything more professional and reliable than countless subjective reviews after one fashion. Wondering whether it would be possible to re-visit Venu 2 plus with 8.05 beta firmware update? Users in the forums seem to notice improvements in, among others, sleep tracking and gps accuracy.
Thanks for your videos, would be interesting to see if the software updates actually improve the results of the tests.
Great job! By far the best analyses for sleep and HR measurement trackers on youtube. You deserve way more subs 👍🏽
Looking forward to the fenix 7 review, and with regards to sleep tracking you should really check some of the Polar devices as e.g. Vantage2, Ignite etc.
What I would love to hear about is your opinion on apps like HRV4training or running stress score by Stryd powermeter vs HR training load by Garmin etc. just in case you need some ideas for new videos 😂
Really a nice work with your reviews! Informative, on point and consistent tests - your body, your route, your routine. Please, keep the good work! 👍
Based on channel reviews I switched from Fenix 5x to Apple Watch and I can confirm your results, excluding the eeg tests. The watch almost perfectly agrees with external hr monitor and pulse ox. The sleep cycle app, also reviewed from you, gives me good overview of my sleep and I can only assume that it’s good enough to get the job done.
Happy to hear that my reviews are helpful to you Anton! Thanks so much! And cool you keep watching, even after making a purchase!
Thank you for the analysis! 😊
Hi Sergiu! Thank you for watching! Any watch of particular interest to you that I could review?😁
Thanks so much for all these videos Rob. Topic request (and it doesn't cost you money!!) - would love to see you dig out some of those devices and test them in different locations. Seen on some Miband threads people recommending wearing it on the inside of the wrist, others saying to wear it on bicep or ankle and so on. Be interesting to see if putting the sensors somewhere else makes a difference to performance.
The sleep algorithms are also tuned to the watches accelerometers and heart sensors. Also, the data is never done on the device itself but sent to Garmin Connect then processed. I have had several different Garmin watches and each was different on the sleep monitoring and improved over time (month to two months) before being very accurate. Consider it the device "getting to know you", while it can access other data from Connect it does not pull in previous sleep data or tracking, only your habits with steps and factors you setup. For sleep and body battery are both on that scale of, gets better the more you wear it. When strength training you will have HR issues as its wrist based and when you are using that wrist for lifting or movement it can lift the watch from the skin or the muscle tightens over the blood flow its monitoring. I have both the Fenix 6 pro and an Apple watch. I prefer some functions and screen of the AW but Garmin has way more information for you to go with. Hoping I can score an Epix soon to have a mix of both.
Hi Matt! Thanks so much for the feedback! Would indeed be interesting to see if they get better over time!👍
This is absolutely not how garmin's new sleep tracking works. The new sleep tracking is all on device.
the best review i ever saw supported with reliable data and pointing to the best performers.
Amazing review as always!
Do you have something like an overview of the currently best fitness trackers / smart watches, in your option? With "best", here I mean statistically best from your tests. I just found your channel and it's hard to keep track. Great work anyways! 💪🏼
Omg I ve been scientific review like this for so longgg finally I found you, love and respect from Thailand ! I will surely watch more recent video from you!
I got a quick and simple question! Between venu 2 and apple series 8, which sensor is better in overall?
I love the depth of these comparison. One thing I would like to see is the head to head comparison of the same device worn simultaneously on two different arms. Would be interesting to see how repeatable the data is for a model. Also, was the data for the venu 2 using the release firmware or the most recent firmware? I'm curious if you've done a comparison and observed any change in performance on the venu 2 based on firmware.
Thanks a lot Rob! I really like your channel. It’s really unique!
Could you please test the EEG headband “Muse-S Gen 2”? I’m very curious to see how it compares to the Dreem 2 (especially since Dreem 2 isn’t available to consumers anymore)
Sir, I m BIG BIG fan of you. You're doing great job sir. I love your channel. Sir, on youtube very few people are as knowledgeable as you. I wish your channel should have 50 million subscribers. General people should respect scientific work.
So nice of you! Hopefully we can get to 100.000 subs first, and in a few years even hit that million mark 😁, but that is in the far-far-far future
I own a Garmin Approach S62, fenix 5, and now use a Fenix 6 Pro Solar. I feel the fenix 6 is better at everything that they have in common except the sleep stages. I’m glad you seem to be getting the same type results I’ve been getting. I seem to either get deep sleep or rem but hardly ever both in the same night.
Hi,
Thank you for your great reviews.
Garmin Venu 2 has a new firmware (beta) that is supposed to make it more accurate with sleep tracking. Users seem to se a difference but unsure about if it’s more accurate or not. It would be very helpful if you could try the new firmware and compare to your previous test.
Thank you!
any updates on this?
Apparently setting the pulse ox to track at night (via connect app) helps improve sleep accuracy too. Would be interested to see how this impacts the results
Thanks alot for the detailed testing and review. Id love to see you do similar testing on the polar V2.
Hi Stephen! Thanks for the compliment! I actually contacted Polar, and hopefully they will lend me some devices to test. Lets see 😊. Any more devices that are of interest?
@@TheQuantifiedScientist the other one im interested in is the Polar grit x pro. I'd imagine that at the V2 would have similar test results.
Thanks for an interesting review of the Venu 2 plus. There are some things I'm trying to figure out and I can't find a better place to ask:
- For keeping track of general health and fitness (walking, hiking, biking, pilates, weights, ...) are the ecosystems equal?
- We have treadmill desks, does the step tracking work if you're walking and typing (on either Apple or Garmin)?
- Is the Garmin stress measurement useful or just noise?
- Does the Garmin have a count down timer? (making tea is sometimes more important that fitness)
Brilliant as always, thanks so much ..
Thanks so much!!⌚️😊
Hi Rob, great review! do you plan to do a scientific tests of body battery? It would be exciting to see how it correlates to oura readiness or blood pressure and other factors :-)
Hi Dawid! First off, thanks for being such a long-term sub! Yes, I might do something like this. However, I have been getting some small rashes from wearing the devices all day on my wrists, so I only wear them during sport and sleep at the moment, to give my arms some recovery time. Once I can wear them full-time again I can hopefully do this😊
@@TheQuantifiedScientist Hi Rob, I can easily develop a rash from literally every smartwatch I have used so far, and what helps me, is to buy oversized elastic straps that I can move above my elbow for my trainings (kind of Polar OH1 style). When not training I wear the watch on my wrist just as normal and this solution works like magic for more than a year now, no rash at all. I also tend to get better accuracy with this for HR measurement. Although not sure if this fits to your testing method :)
Brilliant videos by the way, keep going!
@@TheQuantifiedScientist hello. I am too really curious about the body battery feature 😁. Aand thx alot for this channel. It.s great!
Hi Rob!
Thanks for your great reviews!!!
Did you ever measure significant differences between the Polar and the Garmin chest straps?
As always, was waiting for the review with tests from you as your tests show whether a gadget is or is not worth buying it!)
Wow ! Thanks so much, and thanks for watching!!😁
Thanks for all the reviews.
I was wondering if you have a list of the devices ordered according to their accuracy of performance for each category of tests?
Very good review and amazing channel I just discovered. Thank you very much for your qualitative work! I'll take your affiliate link when I make my decision.
It would be cool to see test results for Garmin's top model - Fenix 7.
Hi Artem! They Fenix 7 is on its way. I had to convince myself to spend the money (I've only bought two things in my life that were more expensive: my home trainer and my road bike). Hopefully I can make a few videos about it, and make at least part of it back.😅😉
@@TheQuantifiedScientist Well, then count me as a new subscriber! Looking forward to the results!
Once your channel grows a bit more, and it is growing, maybe you'll get some review units from these companies
@@TheQuantifiedScientist Please do the Epix! (though I guess it's just a Fenix 7 with fancy screen)
@@TheQuantifiedScientist subbed
Hey! Thank you so much for your detailed and scientific videos!
I was wondering which watch you would suggest if the goal is to get an accurate step count with as little false positives as possible? I don’t really care about sleep tracking etc.
Hi! Thanks so much 😊. Honestly, I still have to do more testing to advise on the false positive rates of different wearables. What I can say is to stay far away from Fitbits when it comes to step counting
Your reviews are perfect!
Hi Rob, great review again, you are gathering serious amounts of smartwatch data 😀! Regarding the HR tracking, is there a difference in the strap and tightness on the wrist of the Apple watch vs e.g. this watch? Or does not play a significant role in HR tracking? Groeten, Sander
Hi Sander! Dankjewel! So, yes, for many watches there can be a difference in accuracy depending on how tightly you wear it. However, from what I read, Apple tried to make sure the Apple Watch was accurate under most circumstances. The idea was that most people do not like to wear their watch tight, so the development team was told they should make it work. However, this was just an article I read online, so take that with a grain of salt 😊
You are the hero we don’t deserve. I value this level of analysis and research so much 🙏
Thanks so much Nathan! Hopefully Garmin will send me some watches before release at some point, so I can get the information out faster (and also get some extra exposure for the channel ;-) ).
I have a Vivoactive 4 that I used for the last two years. I noticed for sleep tracking I almost never had deep sleep or awake time. Always had a ton of rem or light. Just picked up the epix 2 and it seems to pick up all my awake moments and it shows that I actually do get deep sleep. Would like to see a test on the new epix 2.
Yeah, can you review new epix 2?.thank you.
Same issue. Had the Vivoactive 3 and switched to the Venu 2 and it just doesn't pick up deep sleep consistently.
I've got the Vivoactive 4 and mine tracks sleep pretty well - including deep and awake (I wake for baby feeds and it gets them spot on)
Rob confirmed that he has the Fenix 7 incoming. That watch is equal to the Epix 2 except for the display. I guess we'll see a review of the Fēnix 7/ Epix 2 in about a month.
@@Alkilu The Venu 2 plus is in theory equal to the Venu 2, except for speakers related fonctions but...
Great video. Agree that at a premium price, this watch should be much better at sleep tracking!
Totally agree!
The 8.05 ROM list updates to sleep tracking so hopefully it moves closer to the vivomove sport performance. I'm curious to know how the Polar GritX Pro performs
Hey Rob, can you contact Garmin on this issue? Maybe they have some information on the differences in sleep tracking? Props to you and your amazing work, been a subscriber since before 10K subs, so great to see you near the 100K! And great work on improving your production values and format!
Hi Steven! Thanks so much for your kind words, and thanks for watching so many of my videos. Happy to hear you are enjoying them. There is still so much I need to improve, but I with some experimentation I can hopefully get better over time😊
What would you say is the most accurate smartwatch in terms of health tracking? I am looking for a smartwatch and I want to buy the most accurate one overall
Hi! I am a big fan of your reviews. I am thinking of upgrading my Garmin 45S and getting some bigger bois. However, I'm using the old Mi Band for basic sleep tracking and have an idea of switching to Garmin to do sleep tracking as well e.g. 1 main Garmin 1 smaller Garmin for sleeping. I can see that Vivomove Sport performs significantly better than the rest. Do you have any plans on reviewing smaller Garmin fitness trackers e.g. Vivosmart/Vivofit etc?
Thanks Rob. I am mostly interested in HRV accuracy with these watches. Do you plan to explore that?
Thank you.
The only watch reviews you need! All about accuracy, not much about hopelessly optimistic specifications.
Thanks so much William! That means a lot😊
Great review as always hope u take in count the vo2max 🤷🏻♂️
Thanks so much! I'll see if I can have a look at that at some point👍
Great, thanks saving time buying and returning this. Reliable SP02 is the key metric I am after. I wonder if you might have an opinion on which device/s if any that you've reviewed give the most accurate SP02 results. I've watched loads of your videos and noting seems very good in this ability. Maybe I've missed the one video showing something good? Thanks.
Hi Tom! The Apple Watch 6 seems to do quite well. I honestly have to make an overview for myself, since I am starting to lose track for some of the features after a while😅
Do you plan to evaluate the Amazon Halo? I love your approach. I'm so disappointed with reviews that are Consumer Reports level or lower.
Will you have a review for Venu 3 soon? Curious if the sleep tracking will be improved.
Amazing and unique Smartwach reviews you used to. Waiting for Garmin Venu 3 review
I have pretty mixed feelings. On the one hand, I've just ordered this model with an honest belief that it's a very good purchase for the future. Especially, since I've never had smartwatches, so I decided to go "crazy" and buy something very new and stylish. Plus, I am very interested in the sleep tracking function, so my frustration is pretty immeasurable right now 🙂
On the other hand, the video itself is very good and I really appreciate your effort and attention to detail. Not to mention, that this is a quite rare approach in device reviewing. Thanks for that, you have a new subscriber now.
After a number of years on The Vivoactive thru the Vivoactive 3, I switched to Fitbit. The no. 1 reason was sleep tracking. The Garmin's were useless. I may give the Venu 2 a go because my data is much more accessible and usable on the Garmin platform. I'll keep using the Fitbit on my non dominant wrist for sleep tracking. No one wearable does everything well. It's all about compromises.
I agree... Unfortunately there is not device that does it all at the moment... Hopefully Apple will up it's sleep tracking gaming, but that would still leave all non-apple users without a good device (and the battery life kind of sucks). The Whoop strap is also reasonably good across the board, but quite expensive with the subscription model.
My Fitbit versa 2 is terrible at everything except steps and heart beat. I can't wait to get rid of it
I've found both Fitbit and Garmin's sleep tracking to be mostly useless, but at least Garmin doesn't make you pay a ridiculous amount per month to see all your data.
@@baddriversofcolga Huge difference between Garmin & Fitbit. Fitbit isn't perfect but it's way better than the older Garmin's. I haven't tested the recent Garmin's. I expect to do that this Spring.
@@cusebike5391 Well, I've directly compared a Charge 4 and a Venu 2 Plus and personally found neither to seemingly be very accurate, but I will say the Fitbit did do a bit better at my wake-up time, though I can edit that so not too big of a deal. Long term maybe the Fitbit will be more accurate, but for instance one night I had a terrible sleep and the Fitbit gave me a 91 sleep score and the Garmin said 79.
Hey... This is awesome! 🙏 Was this before or after the latest software update?
Hi Bill! I updated it after I got it (about 3 days after launch). I did not get any update notifications after.
Thanks for your invaluable research 🙏 ... We definitely need many more reviews like this - really useful to know what pieces of information to take with a pinch of salt - maybe a batched 6 month post release cycle review may be useful Thanks!!
Hey ! thanks a lot for your tests !
Will you be able to test suunto smartwatches ?
You , are the man. Good job.
Thanks so much Jimmy!!!
Thank you so much for bringing scientific integrity to the world of reviewing tech! Especially these things that nobody else has been measuring as they should.
A couple of questions:
1. Why didn't you do an oxygen saturation test with the Apple Watch 7?
2. Why does the video thumbnail say "Apple Watch killer" when it's apparently not as precise or good as the Apple Watch - it's even more expensive!
*and I have a suggestion for you that you might like:
Nobody is able or even cares to test certain technologies' impact on our health. For example: AMOLED vs LCD eyestrain? Influence on melatonin production? etc.
Another example: earbuds, in-ear or otherwise, impact on hearing?
Or different devices or apps influence on attention/ADHD?
There are so many things to test that attentive consumers have just given up on testing! We just have to trust whatever our favourite manufacturer makes next.
Hi! Thanks so much!
1. I did do a test, I just need to find time to make the video
2. I was alluding to the fact that it is marketed as a "more complete smartwatch", and that I am wondering if this is true, hence the "?" at the end.
Hope that helps. Have a great day!
@@TheQuantifiedScientist you rock! :D
Thanks for this!
My pleasure Ruben!😊Hopefully I can review more Garmin, Polar and other products soon👍
Thanks for the great review! I absolutely love the Venu 2 Plus except for the sleep tracking. Thought it was just me but it isn’t!
I'm planning on buying the watch but wanted to know why you don't like the sleep tracking, I thought it is supposed to get better the more you wear it and with all the new updates?
@@user-ng1rn5ib8l my waking time seems richt but my asleep time is always off
When someone says Apple killers, time is never looks at then kindly.
But from you Rob, it has caught my attention.
Hi Antony! Thanks for comment. It is mostly that the Venu 2 Plus is marketed as having these extra smartwatch features, making it a more attractive alternative for people that do not want to use Apple. Unfortunately, my tests were not as favourable as hoped... Honestly, the Apple Watch is just a better full-fledged smartwatch still, though the Garmin Venu 2 has a better battery, also good (enough) heart rate and different look
Hey, great video. I was wondering what the watch face is at 14:41?
I love the comparison chart that shows all the different devices together. Surprised by the vivomove sport. Where is the vivomove style and withings ScanWatch in relation to those?
Hi Cliff! The Scanwatch does not track all the sleep stages (no REM), so I cannot include it in the chart for now... The Vivomove Sport is better at sleep tracking I would say based on my first look. I do not own the Vivomove Style, so I cannot comment😊
Love the thumbnail with siri calling mom. LOL.
One of a kind channel, thank you!
From one scientist to another: Since we know that accuracy is maximum with smaller watches why not measure all metrics with Venu 2s or any other “s” models instead of a model just because it came out fresh? I bet the accuracy would increase significantly, particularly for sports with a lot of wrist movement.
Ohh man, just got it today from Amazon.... will use it for a week of so and compare it with my Scanwatch from Fitbit....
Was thinking to go for a garmin Epix 2, though they use the same sensors.... if so.... will be disappointed too??
Hope you can test an Epix 2 (Amoled) or a Fenix 7.
Love your videos man, good job...keep it up !
Thanks Yassine! Yep, the Fenix 7 is on its way. Man, that device is expensive😉
@@TheQuantifiedScientist absolutely, I planned to get the Epix 2 for the Amoled screen (minimum quality screen for me) It’s absolute overkill and very very expensive. This is why I’m waiting religiously your scientific test to take my decision.
To be honest, with my first night with The Venu 2 Plus….very disappointed. My scanwatch in my right hand reports 4h deep sleep, my Venu 2P left hand 1h9 min deep sleep. Scanwatch = restful night. Venu 2 + = unrestfull night. 2 watches 2 conclusions, same night 🤦♂️
I have a Venu 2 and noticed that since the last software update I also have an issue with HR way too high at the beginning of an indoor cycle ride. Also sleep tracking seems to have gone awry. It keeps telling me that my stress is high during sleep which is not correct. However, if HR is not correct then the stress measurement will not be correct because it is based on HRV.
Hi Ray! Thanks for sharing! Weird that a software update made things worse...
Thank you very much Mr Rob, this video was which I was waiting for. I realy dissepointed like you with Garmin 2 plus. As you said the sensors are the same but why? Do you think that could it be because of software? Anyway I will write this to Garmin company and refer your video. Liebe Grüße...
Hi Yeni! I am not sure, I cannot explain it, but these are the data... Maybe I just got a bad unit? I'll keep testing it, and we'll see 😊. LG!
is there any update review for this watch ? as Garmin did many firmware updates and some about the sleep tracking....i'm considering it and apple watch 8...but I prefer rounded watch :)
I' ve tried sleep tracking on my GARMIN Instinct Solar and was rather disappointed .It often missed awake periods when I gave up trying to sleep and was reading! O2 saturation was also inaccurate compared with a professional oximeter. However the GPS function is surprisingly good and it keeps the time!
Hi John! Thanks for sharing your experience. That seems to match quite a bit with what I observe for the Venu 2 Plus. Still a surprise though that the Vivomove Sport does quite a lot better
First, thank you for your high informative videos!
Maybe you could add a emf radiation test to your videos? Would be great😊
Great video. Do you think the apple watch band has any effect on the results. That band looks like more of a sport band.
Hi! I had an Apple Series 6 for a while with the standard band, and from what I remember, this did not make a huge difference. I actually read somewhere that Apple went out of their way to make sure that it would be accurate, even if relatively loosely worn.
Doesn’t the venu 2 plus have a stainless steel back compared to the venu 2/2s? Would a steel back vs plastic back change the accuracy of the readings?
Thanks for the video! Can you please test Polar Ignite 2?
Hi Patrick! I just got in touch with Polar, to see if they can lend me some devices😊
@@TheQuantifiedScientist Thanks, Rob! Keep up the great work!
Thanks a lot for your reviews!I need your help,,I have a plan to buy Garmin venu (2019).Do you advice?
Your intonation reminds me so much of Stefan from CNC Kitchen, makes me wonder if you guys are from the same region in Germany lol
I own a Venu 2 plus, impressed with the results. It’s a shame Garmin doesn’t use the same algorithm throughout all smartwatch line. I don’t want to go to an Apple Watch just because it’s battery last for a day only.
I had a garmin 245 music for 2 years. Sleep tracking seemed fair. Got a venu 2 in november and it literally doesnt track any rem sleep at all. Ive tried fitbit too and that seemed way better at tracking my sleep. Other than the weird rem sleep error I think the watch is great for allround tracking your fitness, but it feels like the sleep track has gotten worse on the venu compared to my 245. Either Ive had under 5 hours of REM in 2 months or the venu is not tracking right. I also tried to tighten the band and whatnot.
Thanks so much for sharing! This matches my observations for the Venu 2 (Plus)
I like how you put the sleep table instantly now.
Thanks Yung! Happy it helped!👍
Good afternoon. I recently bought a Garmin Venu 2 Plus model. I love it and it has everything I need. There is one problem, can you tell me what the essence is. It's about paying with Garmin Pay. I watched earlier reviews in which bloggers claimed that after the watch is put on the hand and the code is entered before payment, then in subsequent times if the watch was not removed, the code does not need to be entered. After entering the code, I still have the opportunity to pay without entering the code for 10 minutes, and then the watch asks for the code again. I deleted and relinked the card but it did not help. I tightened the belt tightly so that the watch always touched the hand, but it did not help. Is it a marriage or raw firmware? It seems that the sensor periodically does not see the watch on the hand? What do you think about this? I really hope you can give me some advice.

I am impressed by "Redmi Watch 2 Light" (6:52), considering price and accuracy!!!
Don't know which HR sensor is in the vivomove sport but it seems like a recent model. And I don't see why the algorithms that process the sensor data would be different. So assuming both are the same, but wore differently... We may have an explanation on why results differ? My watch def sits differently on my right wrist and the dominant wrist is slightly bigger as well which could influence HR readings.
Hi! The HR accuracy actually seems better on the Venu 2 Plus when I just quickly checked, so not sure. Maybe it is the movement, or maybe I paired the Vivomove sport with an account that already had data from a previous device, so it could train the algorithm better. I have to check a bunch of things to find out I guess🧪
this is so useful, thanks so much for making it
Can you make a heart rate accuracy ranking graph for watches like you did for the sleep monitoring graph?
In your opinion Wich one is the best watch for daily using on Android ...no matter the price
I currently own the Fenix 7 Sapphire Solar. It's sleep tracking performance is pretty poor, similar to the Venu 2 Plus. Exact same issues with deep sleep not being recognized etc. I wear a Whoop at the same time and find it tracks deep sleep far better. The only smart watch I've found to be worse than the Fenix 7 is my Samsung Galaxy Watch 4.
Hi Darrell! Yes, the Whoop is pretty good at sleep tracking. Thanks for sharing! I just got my Fenix 7, so lets see how that does on me 😊
I have a Garmin and apart from sleep/awake detection it's not particularly useful lots of missed REM and deep sleep. Unfortunately my other smart watch is a TicWatch Pro 3 and sleep detection is even worse on that.
Btw, was that a sneaky clip from the TicWatch Pro 3 Ultra review where you were talking about the watch slipping around? I haven't had that problem with the Garmin as the strap adjustments are finer but definitely on the TWP3U, the adjustments are huge on the stock strap
Hi Nicholas! That matches my findings indeed! Haha, yes, I had recorded all the B-roll, and forgot the slipping of the watch, so I just decided to sneak in the TWP3U footage in there 🤓 when editing, good catch!
Hi all, is anyone aware if Garmin has improved in the last year, with FW updates or otherwise, the skewed measurements (like heartrate) please?
Would there be a chance for you to re-verify the venu 2 plus based on the latest software? The latest beta is said to include sleep enhancements 🤩. A wonderful channel. Thanks a lot for what you do. 👍🏻
Hi ! I'll see what I can do. Looks cool! Installing a beta is a bit more involved it seems, but it also seems doable😊
@@TheQuantifiedScientist Maybe an update video or something? Sort of a follow up perhaps? Also noticed that Fenix 7 ( great vid by the way) had similar accuracy issues. Keep up the great work.
I would like to see this too. Im holding off purchasing a new watch until I see it.
@@TheQuantifiedScientist The update is now out of beta. An update would be greatly appreciated. Great videos!
Can u test the gamin epix 2?(Your videos are great bro keep up the good work)
Hi! First the Fenix 7, and then convince Garmin to lend me an Epix 2, because my bank account cannot take any more💸
our professions are pretty near.... my profession is to analyze intensive care data using AI and mat stat. I appreciate your sceintific explanation of a watch I am looking for.
I have 3 garmin's, vivoactive 4s, vivosmart 4 and forerunner 745. The vivosmart 4 is best for sleep tracking, very comfortable and light. The accuracy is comparable to my samsung active, which is mostly accurate, but none are perfect. For sleep tracking I mostly use the samsung with a more comfortable aftermarket strap, because it tracks naps, which garmin still doesn't do.
For best tracking, I find that a good fitting strap makes a massive difference.
Thanks for sharing that experience! You really have a ton of Garmin Watches⌚️⌚️⌚️!
Do any of the garmins resume playback of an mp3 after the watch has been restarted? I just bought the 245 which doesn't appear to?
Could you please do a Test for the Polar Grit x pro ?
I'm stuck. Thought I had found a phone with the Venu 2. Put off by the Fitbit charge with their subscription. Your data indicates Apple is more accurate but don't want to be forced to IOS (shame they don't market an Android one). £300 is still a lot for me and happy with the standard Venu 2 but if accuracy is still off which is the whole point not sure if it's worth waiting and seeing what the Venu 3 brings but could be a wait? Good video.
Excellent 👍🏿, please we look forward to seeing the Garmin Fenix 6 pro solar review please 🙏🏾
Thanks so much! The Garmin Fenix 7 is up next😊
@@TheQuantifiedScientist great 👍💪👊
I wonder what theyre doing at Garmin 😅 Why was the Sleeptracking on Venu2 ok and on the 2 plus so bad 😓
Maybe the magnetic field of the speaker in the 2plus interferes with the 3d position Sensor .
Im very excited to hear about the HR and Spo2 capabilities of the Vivomove Sport. The Sensors look like theold Venu1. The Battery is a bit of a bummer in this.
Thanks for sharing your ideas! I am not an engineer or physicist, so I am honestly not sure which signals can interfere with each other. Hopefully the review on the Vivomove Sport will be out in two weeks or so😊
Hi apologies, about the Vivomove. Would you think that the Vivomove Luxe have the same results? It the previous model and has the same sensor, i would assume that maybe it would differ depending how the algorithm. Would really appreciate you opinion on this as I’m stuck on whether to purchase the Venu 2 Plus or the Vivomove Luxe….
Hi Byron! Honestly, I cannot say without testing it. The sensors in the Venu 2 Plus should be better, but somehow the sleep tracking is worse. There are too many interacting factors for me to make a confident prediction
Liked even before I pressed play!
Thanks so much Zaza! Did you like it in the end?
@@TheQuantifiedScientist As always!
Can't wait for your next video!
I learned from you that most of these so-called smartwatches have little more than toy value, even very expensive models.
However, I do hope that this can change with the work you do.
Hey Rob.
So we can except a review of the vivomove sport? 😶 Great work as always!
Hi Ray! Yes, in about two weeks or so😊
I'm looking the best option for CrossFit /High intensity workouts
The thumbnail got me excited not gonna lie!
Hey! And, were you expecting this outcome?
@@TheQuantifiedScientist from the other reviews that I have seen, I did hope this outcome but it was very feeble
@@TheQuantifiedScientist i was particularly eager to see the heart rate accuracy. I just wanted to know if Garmin can perform as well as iWatch in terms of heartrate accuracy and I got my answer. I always wait for your videos as i believe your tests are extremely comprehensive.
Please can you advise..should I buy Garmin Venus 2 Plus or Huawei GT3 PRO. Price is not an issue. Thank you!
hey, which one did you buy? I'm doing research to which one to buy now and don't know which is better for fitness/health overall. From what I've seen in this channel, the huawei gt 3 pro is better one. But I'm curious if something changed with the updates
Did you try swapping arm between the Venu 2 Plus and Vivomove for one night to rule out it played a role?
Hi! Not yet, since I did not notice the difference until I started analysing the data. But that is a great idea!👍
must your watch be paired with your ph via Bluetooth/wifi to make/receive calls? Can one link it to you phone via Mobile data and then leave your phone at home go for a run and still be able to make/receive calls?
