- Today we begin to examine the cross in light of Old Testament prophecy. Even though the expectation of the Jews at the time of Christ was for a conquering Messiah, the Scripture also paints a picture of a suffering and dying Messiah. This means He would need to come two separate times. In their rejection of Jesus, the people were actually fulfilling the very Scriptures they denied as referring to Christ. Today let’s stand at the foot of the cross and not only examine the event, but also examine our hearts.
This teaching is from our series Against All Odds with Skip Heitzig from Calvary Albuquerque.
for the first time I truly understand Ps22
I am surprised and disappointed that more ministers don’t seem to preach much on Bible prophecy and Christian apologetics. Thank you for your very good sermon. 😎
we are all saved by grace not by our work that we could boast . we are saved by His precious blood .Thank you brother Skip for such wonderful sermon . Last night I had dream and God told me psalm 22 . I had no idea . This morning I got up and checked the internet and came up with your sermon . I am in bad situation right now and I believe God knows it well !! I gave my life when I was 21 years old in 1984 in Sweden before that I tried to take my life with pills and Jesus came in the bedroom , It was at 4 o clock afternoon . a few years ago I lost my wife to cancer . I have devoted my life to the Lord after I met Him , He sat next to me and put His Hand on my head , as I said I got born again and baptized with my wife . God has greater plans for our lives more than we understand . Romans 8;28

My God my God why have you forsaken me?
Okay I'm by no means an expert on Biblical history. This week I'm to read Palms 22. First verse: My God, my God why have you forsaken Me? I find it interesting that Jesus would feel separated from God since over and over in the Holy Scripture we read He is one with the Father, He came to do His will. In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God, He was in the beginning with God. Jesus is the Word. I believe Jesus was quoting Psalms 22, He wants us to think of its entirety of the Psalms 22 and everything that it states. Every thing Jesus is doing is doing for us. Every thing He does or says has a purpose. He dies in an intimate relationship with the Father as he says in Your hands I commit my spirit. I truly believe that He was quoting Palms 22 for us to recognize what is happening to him on the cross as the fulfillment of this passage.
Yes sin separate us from God. However Jesus never sinned, He could not sin. He is one with the Father. I don't believe Jesus felt separated from the Father. Just an observation.
Peace be with you all.
Agreed! He didnt look away from Christ. That splits the trinity. Impossible. Christ is God and the Spirit and they all work together in action.
Also the fact that he was ressurected why dont people see that even if we as mere humans feel forsaken there is HOPE
He was never totally separated from the father that's impossible, that would make two Gods and we know our God is one. Jesus was totally human and totally God it was the human Jesus that was separated
I don’t even think he was in doubt
You are right on the button. That part is always preached so disjointedly. Even this preacher gave good proof texts like Jesus knew God always heard him and would never leave him even though the disciples would, but then drew the wrong conclusion that the Father did just that. There is a whole doctrine behind it though. They have to say he was forsaken so they can prove their doctrine of hell is a separation from God for eternity. When the Bible says there is no where you can go to get away from God's presence, remember HE is omnipresent. Psalm 139:7-12 I think if I did not want God then Hell would be having to have his Holy presence around me for eternity.
