  • The book of Deuteronomy is basically a series of farewell speeches given by Moses to the next generation of Israelites. In the first section of chapter 4, we see how remembering our past is the key to living in obedience to God as well as passing on our legacy, and we take a look at the difference between the old and new covenant.
This teaching is from our series 05 Deuteronomy - 2015 with Skip Heitzig from Calvary Albuquerque.

Thanks Pastor Skip for another great teaching. I especially liked what you said about Satan knowing everything about humans and how to use their weaknesses to put them on the road to destruction. That certainly is evident in our nation and world today. Satan and his army of demons is having a field day with many humans denying his existence as well as God - which suits Satan just fine!

I just watched Mike Winger's discussion of the Ravi Zacharias situation yesterday. Skip's take Deuteronomy 4:3-4 confirms Solomon- there is nothing new under the sun.

Wonderful elaboration of how the second commandment indirectly killed Jesus; Thank you for that history lesson.

Pastor Skip was explaining how the decisions of Pontious Pilate and the crowd of people in front of him led to the crucifixion of Jesus. But it’s important to remember that this all happened under God’s sovereignty. In the mind and purpose of God, Jesus was crucified before the earth itself was created. Jesus said “No one takes My life from Me, I lay it down of Myself. I have power to lay it down and I have power to take it up again.” It’s easy to blame the Jewish scribes and Pharisees and Romans for putting Christ on the cross - but we all are responsible because we are all sinners. Jesus paid the penalty and endured my hell for my sin. And so He did for every person who has ever lived on the earth - past, present, and future. We cannot fathom that love, mercy, and grace.

Stop misleading the people. The laws are to be kept throughout your generations throughout your dwellings

Not all the laws and the language used here imply "until the end of the age", not actually "forever". The sacrificial and ceremonial laws were superseded and made inactive by the death of Jesus. Dietary laws were removed in Acts 10:13. The rest of the laws are still our guide, though we are not under the law like we were before Christ. Galatians 5:14 says "For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself."
