🗣️FACTS ! >🎤 🏀🗑️🤾⛹️
That veto fcked over the lakers immesly. Everyone brings up not getting those players but like Barnes said retaining those player they almost traded really fcked them. Odom was all in his feelings after that trade and requested a trade but nobody brings up Pau…He was professional but he was constantly in trade discussions after that and I think that more than anything messed w/ him during those final yrs as a laker. After he left the laker for Chicago I saw a totally different pau than the one the lakers had for those final 4 seasons.
🎯🎯🎯
I never get why Lakers didn't go for that Rockets package for Gasol? Dragic -Martin - Kobe - Scola - Bynum as starters and Blake, Fisher, Artest, Barnes and whoever you can get for Lamar for frontcourt depth would be a great core. Bynum was ready to be the 2nd option plus Martin and Dragic would bring that much needed spacing with their shooting.
Yesssss LO was crying like a biyaach in front of Kloe hoodrt as
And after Gasol left LA, he played really good for the Bulls and made the Allstar team, so those trades discussion really F-ed him up.
LO was sooooooo good. Once he was gone I knew it was over. He was like the ultimate role player. Could do it all: defense, attacking the basket, passing… he was so critical
On the clippers yea not for the lakers he was ok his defense was ok he was never locking nothing up lol, he did do good passing on the lakers thats about it, attacking the basket he was ok at that all he use to do was fake like he gonna dunk and scoop lay up left hand same move every time or a dunk every now and then, shit Shawn Marion was a better role player and defender than him . Odom wasn’t that critical why you think he was on the trade block for Chris Paul. Odom was so inconsistent good one game trash the next 5 then good again when Paul gasol got there it help Odom a lot because he wasn’t ask to score anymore or guard the bigs that helped him out a lot then he started to be consistent at playing defense and passing because we didn’t need him to try to be #2 all the proof is in the pudding go watch that 2006 season all the way to the playoffs when they played the suns when we was up 3-1 what Odom did that year lol you have to watch the games not the stats.
@@nodayzoff5902 I don’t agree with you.. I didn’t look at stats. I know basketball. LO was the glue that made it all work. It’s beyond the stats. His length was critical on defense and offense
Thank you so much for putting those blurbs onscreen to give context to the statements made. Brilliant.
I always loved Matt Barnes mentality and the way he conducted himself on the court he's intense. He has a talent for telling what happened as well.
Timeline a bit off. Phil retired. Was not coming back 2011-12. Mike Brown gets fired early 2012-13, then Mike D’Antoni gets hired when Phil wanted back in - Kobe, Nash, Howard season.
Phil definitely would have come back if CP3 trade went through in Dec 2011
Yeah Phil wanted them going with Shaw and keep the triangle
I was thinking the same thing lol Mike brown it was bickerstaff for a little then dantoni
@@MrEliasdlno he wouldn't
Hated Matt Barnes so much as a player, but he's an absolute gem in conversation, and clearly a real one.
@ericpeters0n yeah................he's so REAL that he lost a analyst gig with Sac by making a verbal threat to a high school kid. Not to mention acting a damn fool at a game that the ninja who took his woman and his kids is coaching.
When you said gem you meant an average looking rock? Dude is terrible in conversation
@@JL-dt1siI agree… he’s probably Gen X yet he sounds like a 17 year old Gen Z when talks lol.
Matt's rendition of the end of the Kobe window is pretty depressing as a Laker fan that followed the whole thing
What's truly tragic is the Lakers completely squandering Kobe's physical peak with a total trash team until he threatened to leave
@@steveshin820 Do you mean, the period after trading Shaq? The most dominant player in the league? Who, despite being overweight, was still able to win a title as the second best player and to be a factor in the league for 4-5 more years after the traded? Who was traded for scraps at the first decent offeres before Kobe said "me or him"? Are you really saying the responsibilities is on the Lakers and Kobe was the victim?
@@steveshin820 Kobe threatened to leave when Shaq was still in the Lakers, btw. He wanted to be the guy. He wanted Shaq out.
@@riccardoferrazzo8283the me or him narrative has long been debunked by Dr Buss himself
@@riccardoferrazzo8283dr buss didn’t extend Shaq BEFORE Kobe was a free agent. He wasn’t paying Shaq what he wanted and O’Neal was pissed. He was cussing at the owner’s box during games. Buss stated that regardless of what Kobe decided he wasn’t gonna pay and extend Shaq. Did you forget about Shaq rehabbing “on company time” when the lakers were going for their 4th title in a row? That didn’t sit well with Lakers ownership.
League blocking the CP3 trade was so messed up. Kobe could’ve had 7 rings…
Why does a slightly past his prime Kobe with CP3 win two titles? They're beating the Heat in '12 or '13?
Fucked the league blocked but mo way they win another ring in that year
Shoulda woulda coulda. No rings are guaranteed even in a hypothetical fantasy scenario
Kobe would still be alive thats how fk'd up it was that set everything in motion
Not without gasol. No way

As a Dallas fan, I was worried about facing the Mavs into the playoffs. LA smacked the shit out of Dallas 110-82 two weeks before the playoffs.

I truly think if Odom had Kobe's work ethic, he could have been one of the greatest to ever play. He was so insanely talented and along with his length... damn. He was lazy though.
Kobe's work ethic? BWAHHHHHH HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!! good joke kid
The league got greedy. They thought they could have a two good teams in LA. Clippers and lakers. Meanwhile, they completely sabotaged kobes chance at a 6th ring. And clippers never made it past the 2nd round.
Well the Clippers did make it pass the 2nd round . They went to the conference finals in 2021.

Matt Barnes greatest shot in Game 7 in his career
If the league doesn’t that trade kobe wins at least another 2-4 rings and changes the whole goat convo drastically…
Cause Chris Paul is known for winning rings right
@@moneymoney3235 cause kobe is known for winning them not cp3…. He’s got 5 in 7 trips… you got room temperature iq 🤣🤣🤣🤣
The elites ain't gonna let that happen. Did you see the cartoon of kobe's heli crash years before he passed? It's all rigged.
David Stern was such a crook. Always putting his thumb on the scale and trying to manipulate things.
I don't think switching CP3 and Pau Gasol changes anything drastically. CP3 hasn't even won anything as the 3rd best player so wtf he gonna do as your #2? Kobe was also at the tail end of his career when that trade would have occurred so saying 4 more rings is hilarious considering how injured he was at that point.
Jim Buss essentially f*cked up Kobe's last possible comeback to get a ring, by not signing back Phil Jackson.
And ppl wonder why mike left
You are absolutely right
@@jordanflores5687he had a gambling addiction that would of came out if he didn’t “retire”,
Yeahhhh riiiiight. They got swept by Dallas with Phil, and got mopped by OKC the next year. Phil wasn’t fixing a damn thing.
Phil Jackson didn't want to coach no more, lmao. Why do people forget this? Game moved past him and it showed in that sweep. Phil Jackson isn't fixing Nash/Dwight injuries either
You know you cold when they name top shelf green after you. LO is a legend in my eyes.
Team ownership Jim vs Jeannie, CP3 trade fell off, those ruined Kobe's chase for a 6th ring.

if cp3 joined the lakers, it would have started the small ball era 3 years before kerr figured out what to do with curry.
Naw the window re opened with Nash and Howard, that was an amazing team that could’ve gotten a ring if not for the Achilles tear

To those people saying CP3 and Kob wouldn't win a ring together even if the trade did go through. Why did the league veto the trade?
Cos Donald Sterlibg was super close with David Stern
The trade was vetoed because the league was operating business for new Orleans at the time and other owners didn't think it was fair that a team ran by the league was giving the Lakers a star player out of favoritism....
Imagine how every other fan base felt when a team ran by the league gives their best player to the most popular and successful team....felt like collusion
The New Orleans Hornets didn’t have a owner at the time so they were owned by all 30 teams in the league, for a trade to go through, it would have to be approved by all the owners, owners like Dan Gilbert and Michael Jordan voted against it after that shit that happened with Miami so the trade got vetoed, David Stern didn’t stop the trade to hurt Kobe
I’m glad everyone here commented letting you know what really happened. No one was trying to screw over Kobe lol, the trade was screwing over the hornets and the other team owners were not cool with it.
love to see them give Odom his flowers.
Cp wasn't getting traded for pau tho
Wtf is it about Phil and these ‘organizations’ right before the 3rd?
If the Lakers had gotten Pau Gasol in the summer of 2007, they would have 3-peated '08, '09, '10.

@@MrEliasdl How? The Lakers are superstar land
Dec. 8 in 2011, then NBA Commissioner David Stern vetoed a three-team trade that would have sent Chris Paul to the Los Angeles Lakers
Allegedly , the NBA commissioner does not have the power to veto a trade unless there is some violation of the rules .
The NBA as a body also owned the Hornets instead of a private owner so they had more authority to shoot it down
cp3 for pau would not have been good....why would they consider it at the time?
You must be under 30 lol
Old injured CP3 had the Durant Steph Warriors beat with Harden doing little. Prime CP3 with Pre-achilles Kobe and all the support players that would have come? That's at least two chips. CP3 is a 1 level player like Kobe.
Pau was a 2 at his best and 3 by that time. Pau at that time did nothing special with the Bulls or Spurs. I loved Pau as a Laker but he only shined that bright because of Kobe.
@drec00k206 no I'm older and I remember, pau won 2 chips with kobe already while cp3 is injury prone and not proven in the playoffs
@@yeon723Pau mentally checked out. He never recaptured his 2008-2010 form for the Lakers after he discovered that his whore of a partner cheated on him and that the Lakers basically traded him for Chris Paul managed to make things worse.
How would you say Cp3 trade would’ve got Kobe another ring? No Pau? Pau ended being a brother & Lamar ended up being a little brother.. Cp3 couldn’t have helped Kobe against The Ticket & The Truth & Shuttlesworth..
Old injured CP3 on the Rockets had the Durant Curry warriors beat with Harden doing little. If he didn't go down to injury he would have finished them.
You don't realize how good prime CP3 was. He would have been a perfect fit for pre Achilles Kobe who could still turn it up when needed.
WTH are you talking? Boston was a nonfactor after the 2010 year. They never got back, so why would they worry about them.
3:24 That’s my Ni99a!!! 🙌🏾
So many what ifs: what if Phil coached that Dwight Kobe team. Could he have Jedi mind tricked them into figuring it out? And then like Prime Chris Paul and 85% of prime Kobe could have been ungodly. Kobe as a mid range run off picks catch and shooter would have been fucked. Also a completely unrelated, but what if they retained Trevor Ariza. He was so good for them. Would have been cool to see how his career is different. Also healthy Bynum would have been nice
No fan knew this man as L.O. 😂
Bottom line David Stern didn't want the Lakers or Kobe to be in the Goat conversation...Lakers are still considered the Greatest Sports Franchise and Doc Buss is the Grratest Sports Owner
They hired Mike Dantoni instead of Phil not Mike Brown
They actually did hire Mike Brown first. They hired D’Antoni after they fired Mike in the beginning of the 2012-13 season

Pau wasn’t involved in the Cp trade
Yes he was, 3 way trade had him going to Houston
The trade is Lakers: CP3, Rockets: Pau, David West, 2 first rounds, and Hornets: Kevin Martin, Luis Scola, Lamar Odom
The best comment was Lamar Odom, would supply the "females on deck if you need, like whatever you needed." You see this is a good definition of a teammate..

I always described LO as a very poor man's LBJ.
Cp3 on LAL definitely would not have won. The chip is his kryptonite.
CP3 and later Dwight added to the Lakers would have given Kobe an easy 2-3 more titles. The league was jealous
Your insane if you believe that nonsense
@@melvynsngltn27 why? Who is beating CP3, Kobe, and Dwight? That one trade changes everything, basically gives Kobe a longer runway for success.
@CarCrazy24 your joking right. Losing Gasol and Odom would be huge Dwight got hurt in 2012 and he would definitely get hurt again. With no other front court player and new coach and teammates that team would flop
Common Matt, Pjax didn't anounced that hegot health problems in April of 2011 and won't be back. It was Jim Buzz told the Lakers team that no matter what the outcome of the playoffs Pjax will not return. Grrat way to deflate a team mentally. In 2012 of November same person chose D ant over Phil. Thats because Jim took over when Dr. BUSS DIEd. That lead to Kobe's dragging the Lakers to.the playoffs and destroyed his body in the process. Pjax said in his 2011 exit interview, this is tbe first time thay I coached a team who don't know how to adjust at all.

Only lebum can recruit 10 super stars, God forbid cp3 came for pau lmao
David Stern was bogus
Didnt Kobe only have 4 rings towards the end of PJackson's era?
Matt Barnes….not that good….lakers didn’t have a good supporting cast…Barnes no defense…
Jackson is still the GOAT coach.
Kobe had to overcome so much adversity to get to his 5.
I will take that CP3 blocked trade to my grave. Probably the worst thing that happened to the Lakers since the Kobe/Shaq split. Man. I remember when it happened and then un-happened.

Lamar Odom was a good basketball player and athlete
That’s why queen James goat comments drive me nuts.. he not only behind Mike he behind Kobe too😂. Rip Kobe an everyone on that chopper🙏🙏

Who’s the white guy on the couch?
Remember they vetoed that trade because owners complained it was unfair for Kobe to pair with CP3 and possibly Dwight. But lebron can play with anyone. They didn’t want Kobe throwing a wrench into their new cash cow lebron and stop him from winning those two pathetic ones he got in Miami
Another reason for me to not like LeFraud James
Nah the reason why some of the owners was complaining was they wanted the Lakers to stay in luxury tax lane that trade would had gotten the Lakers out of the luxury tax lane
If that was the case the league would’ve never allowed KD to join the Warriors lol think before you type idiot
Somebody please tell PG to stop touching the mic. Annoying and totally unnecesary.

Gasol lost his fire coz his GF cheated on him. Odom was gassed out. That's why the Lakers decided to trade them for CP3. Would they have won with CP3? not sure. They basically lose most of their length . Bynum was an all-star caliber center but he injury prone .
They definitely needed more pieces but a team with a prime CP and Kobe is bound to make noise, and people would’ve been more inclined to play with the lakers. When people saw that the lakers weren’t winning and Kobe was getting old they felt they didn’t want to deal with an aging cranky Kobe and no one wanted to come to LA. But if we had CP the story might’ve been different.
@@brandonsantiago2298 Kobe was not in his prime and was already declining athletically and especially defensively. Trading your big man duo of Gasol and Odom is a massive blow. Miami, OKC, San Antonio all improved post-2011 and I don't see how LA beats any of those teams. Kobe fans are irrational and argue on emotion, not logic. (if you're only implying CP was in his prime, my bad. I stand by my point)
@@pingpongbro88 yeah I don’t think you read my comment properly. Kobe nor Gasol were no longer in their prime but Kobe could still ball. Kobe was still averaging the same numbers of 27 ppg, but you look at Gasols numbers and his went down every playoff. Bynum was injury prone and Odom after winning those chips got complacent and no longer had the drive to keep working on his game and body, he said so himself hence he literally retired a couple of years later. Artest was old and slow as well and no longer in his prime. The lakers definitely needed to trade for better pieces around Kobe in order to contend. And like you said the Heat, the Spurs and a raising OKC were all better than the lakers. But if you simply had CP3 along side Kobe just with them two they could’ve gotten more out of the players around them.
Whether people want to admit it or not CP has always made his teams better, he made the clippers better, he made Houston better, he helped a bunch of rookies in OkC to make the playoffs and he made the Suns better. CP is not really a closer, but you’d have Kobe for that. Kobe with CP would’ve been a great duo, and if they had gotten Howard (although after that back surgery he was never the same) they would’ve had a really good big 3. Kobe would’ve never busted his Achilles and what we’re seeing of Lebron playing great in his 19th, 20th, 21th season we would’ve seen Kobe do it first and would’ve had at least a contending competive team instead of being at the bottom of the barrel in his last 3 seasons.
Right now Lebron has benefited a lot of the play in tournament. Cause if it weren’t for that he wouldn’t have made the playoffs last year nor 2021 nor this year either. So Lebrons final years have not been pretty either, and I think we can all agree he has had a better team than what Kobe had from 2013-2016
The plan was to get Dwight too, which they eventually did, unfortunately the whole CP3 veto thing really fucked the Lakers up big time and for a long time
@@brandonsantiago2298 they could've been competitive but with Bynum/Kobe/CP3 filling out 95% of their salary, the rest of the team would be paid in luxury tax and a lot of minimum guys. Not saying Gasol and Odom weren't declining but you still need a presence on the interior. Getting CP3 solves one issue but creates another
It would've been great to see Kobe remain on good teams till season 20 though. He'd have to clearly be the second best on a team like LeBron right now.
Golden State was right around the corner. I don't think he would've got #6 but who knows what happens with roster construction
Also, Kobe's ludicrous contract in his final years kept that team from being able to be viable or competitive. A non-factor was eating up their salary on the bench and a bunch of guys on rookie contracts and vet minimums were dragged by the media for trying to do their best with what they had. They had to accept mediocrity with an expiring Bryant contract
It is rarely commented that these post-Shaq championships were built on a big talented front line, not on Kobe . Pau, Lamar Odom, and Andrew Bynum. That team was constructed to minimize the negatives of Kobe, because Phil said Kobe was on manageable.
They were great but they were not Top 75 like the other goats
Shaq and pau HOF though
You sound ignorant? Kobe, was the only reason they went to the finals 2008, 2009, and 2010.
Kobe was the reason why the Lakers went to the finals and won in those years. Kobe Bryant went back to back titles and three straight Finals appearances without a top 75 player. That's why Kobe is in my top 3 as greatest players of all time.
@clintonalford7357 he was a reason they were a mid to bad team to begin with. He was a great scorer but he was also a detriment to his team. It showed before Pau and lamar but especially after Pau and Lamar
