Is Buying SMALL Gold Coins BETTER Than 1 Oz Gold Coins RIGHT NOW?

- Is Buying SMALL Gold Coins BETTER Than 1 Oz Gold Coins RIGHT NOW is a video interview with another one of my silver and gold dealers discussing the benefits of buying small gold coins. Buying 1 oz gold coins has its benefits, like less premiums. However, fractional gold bullion coins allow people to buy small gold coins more frequently. 1 oz gold like the gold eagle commands a heavy price for most people. Smaller gold coins like 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz gold are good alternatives. Fractional gold coins allows people to own some gold without having to break the bank trying to save enough money for a bigger purchase. The question is, which fractional gold coin is best to stack when gold stacking?

No to
Hahah! You animal.
Exactly my problem as well.
Hahaha i am the same gotta all into the shop every pay day
feel ya there brother :p
Yep, been saying it for years. The smaller the increment, the larger your universe of possible buyers. Diversity within your stack is absolutely key, as it represents options.
Thanks pal!
Very well said
@@EmpirePreciousMetals is there nit a standard weight and gold coin. Rather than Eagle or maple?
Great job and it’s so much nicer to actually see a person not just there hands
Definitely agree with buying the fractional gold. I'm still on my 2022 self challenge buying minimum tenth ounce gold and 5g-10g platinum a month. Keep the AWESOME material coming. Much appreciated!!! Stay safe and stack on! Peace from Kansas!!!
Thanks KS Coins! Be well!
It’s fun to go back and watch these old videos! Stay the course!
I have some rules when I am buying gold
1. I am buying investment gold
2. Only the most famous coins: maple leaf, britania, Wiener Philharmonic, Sovereign, Australian Kangaroo, 1 Ducat
3. The cheapest coin for the moment with the smallest buy/sell difference
4. I always calculate the price per gram before buying something.
No gold eagles?
The Britannia is a real stunner. What a beauty.
Thank you for your helpful information❕
You are absolutely right 👍
love the video and i am a firm believer in stacking fractional gold. not only because its budget friendly.
What he really means is "I encourage people to have an array of stuff because I'm trying to sell it"
No, what he really means is have an array of stuff because you shouldn’t put all your eggs in one basket.
Exactly, scammers. Always these dealers sitting on a mountain of silver and very little gold telling people silver is going to save them
Great video stormy! I’m a Mainer, but I end up in Vermont now and then. I’ll be stopping by next time I’m close to Rutland
Awesome, Mike! Sounds good. Please remember to tell Tim I sent you!
Great video empire. He brought up some really good points
Thanks Plumby!
I have a weird variety. From goldbacks, 5g, 10g, 20g, and 1oz bars.
I finally started buying buffalos and eagles.
I also have nuggets, grain, and flake. It adds up.
Gold is gold.
yes but some gold is weirdly expensive
Most of that small stuff is gimmicky crap. Just offload it while you can
Let’s talk about that painting of the topless red head…! 😳🥰
Lol
Great video Stormy! Tim seems like a cool guy and looks like he has nice shop! I only have fractional gold in my stack so far. 1/10 and 1/4 oz. But I mainly stack foreign gold like Mexican pesos, roosters, sovereign, etc. because I typically can buy them at spot. I’m all about low premium!
Very nice! I had one rooster once, but sold it. I may start buying some again. I do have some Mexican gold. See ya Friday.
@@EmpirePreciousMetals i liked the maple leafs because they come in a sealed plastic from the factory. Just another security feature.
Agreed! I have some fractional gold eagles.. but there is just such a variety of foreign gold that can be picked up for a lot less.
I really appreciate your videos. I may not always agree with everything you present in them. But, I can honestly say your videos are never boring and I always enjoy listening. I personally have no problem with fractional and I own fractional. However, I won’t pay any higher premiums than I would a full ounce. I find deals ever so often.
Thanks very much, Cowboy. The encouragement and pats on the back are always appreciated. 🍻
@@EmpirePreciousMetals some people don’t know how to take my criticisms. But, I’m always willing to give credit when credit is due.
I have decided to diversify into Gold and yes, the fractionals are all I can afford every week or two.
And I would rather have fractionals than wait a couple months to buy a whole ounce that I couldn't as easily part with for probably a higher price than it is now
how can you afford to pay the highest premiums
What a lovely box for your coins.
Great video! Thanks 💪
Thanks for the video of gold investment. Yes, i agreed that owning 1/4 ounce canada maple leaf gold coin is a good idea.👍😀
This was perfect timing for me cause. I'm looking too get some gold while I have extra cash. Tnx great vid 👊
Glad it was helpful!
Great interview sir!! There are some low premium fractionals out there that i like,.
Which do you like?
Hey stormy I agree with most of what you said. Only thing I consider when buying fractional is future spot price. I know spot fluctuates but regardless I feel gold will have a higher low later on. Majority of people believe gold will be higher. Realistically can’t see gold at 10k like some people say. But I know it will be higher than what it is now. So if that’s the case then all the premiums we have paid for fractional will be eaten up and we may even make more money selling those instead of a full ounce in the future.
Thanks Joseph!
Thank’s for a good upload 😎
You’re welcome!
I remember buying a 1/25 oz coin it was smaller than a 1/10oz regret buying it but we'll u learn I don't like grams.. am glad I learned from watching ur videos Stormy know I like big coins
Right on buddy!
Good stuff, I like to have some variety with my gold! Agree with 1/4oz!
Thanks bud!
Love that painting behind him
Lol.
In these times I think most folks are just stacking what they can afford .
For the seasoned stacker, lately for myself I’m getting more into the 1/4 oz size . It just feels right . But if I have the cash on hand I’m always going full ounce especially if I can get it 89 and 99 over spot . Luckily for me my LCS prorates all his fractional so 99 divided by what ever fractional I buy .
Good video sir stormy !
Thanks pal!
What’s up with the naked picture on the guys wall 😱
🧐😈
Got my first 1ozt year of the dragon gold bar. But all my other gold is tenth ozt. For a few reasons that you are covering. Awesome video Stormy. Definitely fractional. Maples are not cheaper anymore I noticed that.
Thanks pal!
"Maples are not cheaper anymore I noticed that."
No, they are not and it would be interesting to see what
happens to Maple prices when one goes to sell them.
I use to work in a pawnshop at 25 years in 2008 I bought a couple gold coins a gold 18kt 59gram Bracelet and a 10kt 49gram figaro I was just collecting them because the other guy was doing it so it rubbed off me I never sold them so glad Pablo was right.
It's nice to have weight, always. Fractional is a very good idea. And I'm actually kinda starting to think that premium might be worth it.
Good interview.
My advice is get what you can. 1/4 would be smart, agreed
Thanks bud!
yeeehhhhh. Good vidja!

oh dang, I have an Imperial wall scroll on my wall, You get another Sub.

Having different types of silver is also good for future side by side comparisons of new acquisitions
Was mesmerized by the painting far left , sorry didn’t hear a word . 😆

@@EmpirePreciousMetals lol 👍
Dude I love that box it's like a treasure chest LOL I bought my first half ounce of gold for 500 bucks and I was paying 130 for 1/10 Oz gold Eagles! I'm not buying much now it's hard to pay $230 for something I paid $130 for two years ago! Or $1,000 for something I paid 500 for a couple years ago my dollar cost average is amazing but I'm not buying much at these ridiculous premiums every once in awhile I'll get a 10th Oz eagle but not very often! Great video brother
Do you follow me on Instagram? Want to see a “treasure chest”? Go look at one of my recent reels posts. Has the most views I ever got on Insta. A chest full of gold!
Just like you were saying, buy what you can afford, but continue to buy. Don’t get so focused on whether or not the market is up or down. But if you want, you can use the Gold/Silver Ratio (GSR) to determine whether it’s smarter at this time to invest in gold or silver. But keep on investing. Like the dealer said, someone will take it no matter what. Either you’ll get the intrinsic value of the numismatic, or they’ll at the very least give you bullion value. But you’re still going to get something.
I’m weaning myself from 1/10 Au ( unless I see some near 200) but I’ve been stepping up to buying 1/4 Au coins. I was surprised to see the Shark Week silver! I still have mine
You know I'm a fractional lover! How close are you to Vermont? I'm in Rhode Island. I go camping in Vermont every year. Another great video, Stormy. Thanks.
I’m in NJ bud.
@@EmpirePreciousMetals i knew that. I just never put it together how close you were to me lol. I usually camp around the Mt Ascutney area. I'm trying my luck with gold prospecting this year. I already have all the equipment, ready to go. Vermont is a great spot to find gold, from what I hear.
I’m partial to the 1/10 ozt, and 1/4 ozt, both in gold and platinum.
Quarters are the most efficient fractional. I am now switching to stack gold with Sovereigns, here in Spain the resale performance is only like 1% less compared to the Maple, and it is easier to save 450€ in one or two months than for a full ounce.
Thanks Lobo!
Sovereigns, Vreneli and quarters are good solutions. Additionally some countries like Germany have a upper limit for buying gold and silver anonymously. For Germany it’s 2000€ therefore I assume that fractionals will be more popular in the future
Fractional gold is all I can afford 👍🇺🇸✌️
I think the 1/10 oz and 1/4 ounce are good to have and I like the goldbacks 👍🇺🇸🖖
It's good to stack!
Stack on buddy!
I have avoided fractional gold because of the high premiums. I just got a 1/2 oz RCM proof coin at 4% over spot from apmex. I am not sure which one I will receive as it is one of those random offerings but it will be from the commemorative series from 1976-1986. I think I got good deal. I bought late at night. And early in the morning I went online to buy another and they were sold out.
What a crazy roller coaster ride spot prices have been. I can't blame anyone for feeling confused on what to do or what to purchase. My plan is to continue my gold purchasing plan for 2022, be consistent, and of course shop around to find the best possible price. Dollar cost average will take care of the extremes in the long run. Good post Imperious Leader!
Thanks buddy! Luckily spot has come down a bit.

Thanks Empire and Tim! Great video !!! Over the last 3 months I have bought 4 1/10 oz gold eagles for around $ 205.00 each . I didn’t think that was too high of a premium .
Definitely not bad. I just bought mine last month for 218
@@TheFrenchMC still a good price . I seen them has high has 280.00 since the recent gold spike

Very nice, $220 each (X5) I paid 3 days ago.
Great video I’m a buyer for 1oz gold coins but I do buy fractional from time to time bc it’s good to diversify the stack
Have you ever considered old world gold coins like Francs or Pesos? They are fractional and often can be bought at spot or close to spot. There's also Pre 33 gold that can be affordable. I like the 1/4 and 1/2oz coins because they're easy to sell to individuals so if I need to sell I have a bigger market than just a coin shop. Usually I don't buy 1/10th oz coins but last month I found a screaming deal. They were $190 each so I bought 10. Keep an eye out for sales and keep stacking.
@@richardcontinijr9661 $190 for a 1/10 is pretty much the melt value wow that’s a outstanding deal and YES 🤩 I love my U.S Pre 33 I just picked up a 1924 Saint gaundens, another Saint to add to the stack and Mexican gold and silver is a huge part of my stack I love my 50 pesos and 20 pesos in gold and LIBERTADS 🤩😎🔥 in gold and silver!
Thanks pal!
Great/timely information! What do you think about the 1 Gram Coin Sheet in Assay? (ex. Maple Leaf) do you think they are easier to deal with than 1/4 coins or do you think they are too small?
Too small in my opinion.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. From my point of view the 1/4 ounzes coins are the sweet spot. Also in the past the most used historical gold coins have a similar size. Sovereign = 0,24 ounze, vreneli, france, Lire,... =0,19 ounze, german empire =0,23 ounze. It is most likely that if we really use Gold coins for trading, that this size would be used often. Of course for big families and expensive Investments, the full ounzes would be better.
Thanks for watching Janni.
agree
Definitely need fractional gold and silver
Agree in general but not with the idea that a 1/2 oz. gold coin is some sort of oddity. I started buying gold
1-oz. coins in late 2013. This was perfectly fine for a while but then I started thinking that having some gold
in hand to make certain that I could pay my property taxes when they are due, regardless of the then current
economic situation, would be good. I have no plan to pay these taxes in gold but to sell the gold and use
whatever kind of money we have at that time. I'm also thinking along the lines of some sort of economic
collapse, depression, or other fubar situation where it might be difficult to make change. Because of this, I
started stacking some fractional gold coins. These are all 1/2 and 1/4 oz. coins. The 1/10 oz. gold coins
have more premium than I want to pay. I did a back of the napkin calc on this and at that time a 1-oz. gold
coin could be had in my hands for $2,000 delivered. But, if I were to buy 10 of the 1/10 oz. gold coins for
that same oz. of gold, the price was close to $2,600 for that oz. That's a little on the steep side, IMO.
I do have a pretty decent silver stack, though, and it should figure into all this as well.
i usually get 1/4 krugers but in the dip i went with 1/2 since the spot was so far down and the premium so low that the difference between the 1/2 and some of the 1/4s i’ve purchased before only amounted to like $300, i don’t have any whole ounces right now , they really to me are the goldilocks of the gold coin, just the weight for its size and the value of what you are holding is a combination that is very satisfying, but for me right now that would be too long to wait and save for and i wouldn’t want to take that loss from premium by trading up fractionals, but ideally i would like to have 1 ounce of every denomination tucked away, then stack 1/4 all day long until a good dip comes along and go for 1/2 or a whole pie, but always always adding to the silver stacks what i can when i can. it’s always worth watching the ratio between the two for an opportunity there as well.
European sovereign gold coins are a great buy if you watch for a good sale
Much prefer the fractional over full ounce Gold pieces. May pay a little higher premium, but they are a lot easier to sell and very popular too. Grams, 1/20, 1/10 & 1/4 sell fast. While the 1/2 to full oz take more time before selling from what I've witnessed in online groups. Would have been neat to see what other Gold coins are selling for on Apmex of similar purity. Such as 1 oz .999 fine 24k Gold Britannia's, Philharmonic's, etc vs Maple's and Krugerand's vs AGE's. Just as a matter of personal preference, always pick up 24k.

Thanks Vacation!
It's crazy how much everything has changed. Gold pesos and libertads used to be a decent buy. Now the libertads are way higher. And I just realized some coins are selling cheaper on eBay.
Yep. Constitutional silver too!
Keep Stacking the Frac!
Bam!
One of our CZcamsrs broke down the math and how the worst of the 1oz is still a better buy than the best prices of a 1/10. Soooo I’m working hard to save up for a 1oz for the summer! Hopefully before July!
Thanks for the info stormy!
Don't over look the 1/4 and 1/2 oz coins. The premium on them isn't bad. 20 Francs and Pesos are usually available for spot or close to spot. Last month I found a screaming deal on 1/10th oz Australian coins for $190 so I bought 10. It only ended up being $80 over spot for an oz which is what I could have gotten a 1oz maple for.
My pleasure Old Man!
So what's better ? 1oz 1/2oz 1/4oz or 1/10th oz?
@@betod3113 the best value for your buck. The 1oz
@@oldmanjenkins771 yeah I was thinking the same cuz I have a 1/10 oz eagle thinking of selling it cuz am going to need to money soon.. then hopefully start saving for a 1oz the bigger the better??
U right! Were U buying this circle boxes for the 1/4 and 1/2 coins, looks great, and everyone have the same outside sizes.
Global demand for Maples is up, due to their purity and portability. They've always been popular abroad for that reason, but the current demand is way up for the obvious reasons.

Thanks Empire for sharing this video. I prefer stacking fractional Gold coins and Gold bars because it's affordable. You don't hear much about stacking fractional Gold bars. I was just wondering.
Yeah, gold bars seem to be preferred less than coins which is why you don’t hear too much about it.
I’m partial to $10 Liberty heads. Like the design and the size.
They’re so nice.
The one oz vs fractional debate all depends on one's budget at the end of the day
True.
The premium is so much on fractional, you'd be better off offering a good deal to the the dealer on a 1 ozt
Where did you get that cool wooden box with the foam slots?
In my description is a link
Just purchased a couple 1/10th oz for the first time from (mostly) the profit I made off a big silver piece I got from goodwill. In my eyes, I didn't lose money, I got free gold for 10 bucks!
I was just in my coin shop today and the Maple Silver and the Britania has the same mark up price as a US Eagle..
Same sale price you mean?
@@EmpirePreciousMetals Yes, the same mark up on the coins.
Hey Stormy, where did you aquire the box holding your gold pieces?
It’s in my description of the video 😉.
I like the 20 francs, yeah it's odd weights but still best bang for the buck for me.
I need to buy some roosters.
I love that little box! Where can I get one?
Check my description for the link.
But if it's time to sell, would you get some premium back for the 1/10 ounce of gold, or would they pay only spot?
If you get the 1 ounce, don't you get more gold for your money?
YES! The smart money right now is on 1/4 and 1/2 ounce pieces!
Thanks Red!
Don't have much gold (a Britannia 1 oz and a 2022 gold sovereign) but was checking fractional gold just now on JM Bullion and it seemed the 2022 quarter ounce Armenian Gold Noah's Ark was a bargain ($100 less than the 2022 quarter ounce Gold Eagle) . Does that make sense? Just re-checked $87.52 difference now. Might have been some spot movement to get the $100.
Yes the Noah’s Ark and other sovereign coins have less premiums due to less demand.
Never trusted the dollar, stock market, government ect…… metals and land are my preference but I have lots to learn. Thanks for sharing your knowledge 👍

I dont trust it either but I still invest in it for to hedge against my own stupity 😜 I like land and metals because its like my bird brain gets revorded when I see the assets instead of looking at a screen but I do like my dividend stocks also :)
I would prefer to buy 1 oz gold but I don't have any. Filled a tube of 20 1/10 oz and now working on 1/4 oz. I am gradually working my way up to 1 oz. Honestly, 1/10 oz are more fun because you can get more variety.

Nice, what'd you get?
@@EmpirePreciousMetals 1/10 oz eagle 2022
In 2021 I started buying 5 gram bars. Reason being I’m trying to stack as many ounces as fast as I can. I’m building my gold ounces so in case of an emergency I don’t have to dip into my bank account. It takes 31.103 grams to equal 1 Troy oz of gold. 5 gram bars cost me anywhere from $330-$350 per 5 gram bar. I realized the end of 2021 I can acquire 2oz or more of gold a year buying 5gram bars. When I I buy 2 5 gram bars twice a month. Thanks for the video
My pleasure!
Your bank account exists to dip into in an emergency. Liquidating an investment you paid a 5-10% premium for is a last resort
I love fractional but my gawd, overage is SO expensive compared to ounce
I just made a video about this. Fractional is alot better and easier to liquidate compared to 1oz and ill never buy 1oz its just too hard to sell when the time comes and if the price rises.
I just checked SD bullion, Maples are still about $30 cheaper for either 2022s or random years. I don’t even bother looking at apmex anymore
The maples are in super high demand right now. I just picked up a few of them.
APMEX tends to have much higher premiums for sure.
@@EmpirePreciousMetals Agreed. But if anyone likes BU grade US 90% silver coins, APMEX
usually has a supply of them when other dealers do not. Bought quite a few of them from APMEX.
For other items I use SD Bullion and Provident Metals. Both are good.
I just read a post from Venezuelan stacker
Says it’s not uncommon for people to cut, (larger bars) with axe blades, chisels, hacksaws and Bolt cutters.
Serious.
Nice vid. What bill is that displayed?
It’s my $1 Educational Note.
Rather depends on your exit strategy for me I have the 70-80% of coins in 1/4oz form but also 20-30% 1oz coins that's because I intend to liquidate the gold slowly at retirement, rather than all at one go, to help it lasts and for tax implementations implementations. If you are using gold to save for a house say 1oz maybe better .
Thinking about one’s exit strategy is key!
Agreed. Both gold and silver have their plusses. For me, gold is for the big expenses and silver is for the small ones. Each of them is very good in their best use area. I've never gotten into the "which is better"
argument because they can do different things for us. My answer to which metals is best... BOTH! lol
I love this lifestyle
👍🏻
1/4oz is my choice for gold coins
AGEs have 1 troy oz of 9999 fine in them, they add additional copper and silver to make them more durable which causes them to end up as 22 carat
Yep
I'm well diversified... in gold and silver 😎
Bam!
How important are the years? Newer coins always seem to be cheaper but when selling a coin is a coin right? Unless it was some kind of special year or something I guess.
Ehhh. For me, not important. But some people collect based on years, and some years have less mintages. It all varies and depends on your goals.
paying more money per weight for less than one ounce coins.same amount of work has gone into smaller coins as the 1 oz.
Great video brother thanks for the info
Any time!
No problem 👍
$300 for 1/10. Not sure where you are looking, but there are a lot online dealers in the $210 to $220 rang , premium included. I have been buying 1/10 eagles and Britanias since January.
APMEX and JM just last week had 1/10 gold ABOVE $300!
Im buying 1/4 maples... cause i can afford it. And its already a lot of money to me.
Premiums are better on 1/2 oz eagles are better than 1/4s and 1/2 oz eagles have lower mintages than 1/4, 1/10 an 1ozs.
1 oz gold always and use silver (rounds or whatever with lowest premium) for the smaller amounts if you need to sell.
😉
I can only afford fractional gold for now. As soon as I finish my personal challenge of a full tube of 1/4 oz gold I am switching to full oz. Don't plan on selling any gold. Have enough silver for bartering and possible trading for gold.
Yes, it's hard to sell gold because it's too beautiful to let go!
@@EmpirePreciousMetals Yes, there is that but there is also the thought that we own
gold specifically because an emergency situation could come along at any time. Given
that, gold owners tend to hold on to their gold until it is really needed.
The Royal Mint announced a few days ago that they are beginning to recycle computer boards for GOLD, and silver. This is actually wonderful news…recycling.
Maybe that’s part of why, Maple’s are going up in price.
Seems like a tedious, labor intensive process. I would imagine this would increase costs?
@@EmpirePreciousMetals I would think so..but they just have a mass process that can work.
Answer:- Yes, 1oz coins are going to be too valuable for individuals to manage, I would apply that reasoning to half oz coins too.
If a gold buyer can't buy an oz than your talking to the wrong person..
Yes.Hold some fractional. I believe that in years to come as new people enter the precious metals market this is what most will be buying and able to afford. The average person won't be able to fork out thousands of dollars for an ounce in years from now.
I agree with you, that is, if the price shoots up.
No, they won't. In fact, the average person is unlikely to be into stacking at all. Those who are into
stacking tend to be the same ones who are proactive and don't like the way that things seem to be
shaping up in the future. Inflation used to fly along under the radar of most people because growth
was higher than inflation. Now that this has reversed, it is clear that fiat currency is not the way to
store one's wealth. Those who have extra money in hand tend to want to protect its buying power
via converting it into gold and silver.
If you're looking for fractional metals for direct barter, you should have mentioned gram bars! The Perth Mint and private mints make 1-, 5-, and 10-gram fractional bars. And you made no mention of the Valcambi Combibar breakable bar, which is a sheet of gold that breaks off into pieces The combibar comes in a 20-piece sheet of 20 1-gram pieces, or a 1-ounce sheet of 10 1/10 ounce pieces. If you can afford the one-ounce bar, you pay less than half the premium per 1/10 ounce vs. the Maple, and you get 10 all at once. No, it's not a sovereign coin, but if you're looking to save on premium, it's an option.
You are correct, but bars tend to be not as sought after, which is why there’s less premium. I prefer to have items which will appeal to the majority.
@fazdoll thanks for reminding me about the Perth Mint gram bars. Just checked out the pricing on 1g and 5g bars and they are way cheaper per gram than a 1/10 or 1/4 oz coin. The 5g bar is not much over spot considering the small size. Plus those machined bars with the Kanagroo etching look sweet, no problem in moving those if you have to.
