I stopped using liquid test kits years ago...they take too long. I switched over to test strips. Overall probably less accurate but much quicker. And...I don't chase numbers. I'm just looking for consistency and the ability to quickly troubleshoot any issues that may arise. Thanks for the video.

Appreciate sharing this. Just got my test box from Sera. That was the only test where I was not confident enough as far as how green it should be. Cause in German instruction it says smth. like "reach green", which leaves a lot of room for subjective interpretation. Best regards from Austria

Thanks. Was having the same issue. Local water supply had changed drastically. API test was useless. Will get this 👍

Hey Dan, go to your petco or pet smart to the bird section and get a syringe for feeding baby birds, makes measuring tank water very easy.

I use a 10ml syringe to squirt/drip in the water to be tested, can also use the Turkey baster for the same purpose.

YAY! You got one finally! I just knew you'd appreciate the easier to differentiate, reagent colors, like I did! Mine is such a pain to read too... Also NOTE: The big comprehensive kit I got, with the copper test and all the basic ones too, came WITH a metered syringe! I can't believe they don't at least provide a cheap pipette, as you suggested, but if that's your only complaint, I feel like it was still solid advice! 😉 AND.. I wonder, with the size of the vials and the additional marking, if you could ACTUALLY double the water volume and in turn double the sensitivity, and accuracy of the readings you get, with the reagents... like you can in science experiments! Not sure about that part though.. but I'd bet you could! And thanks for the video! I can just redirect people here now, when I'm trying to explain the Sera test to folks! LOL 🤗

Hey helpful tip, get some 5ml plastic syringes. You get a 100 pack for like $15 on Amazon. It makes using any liquid test kit, liquid meds, or liquid anything you use for your aquarium SOOOOOOO much easier. I got them for my API test kit but I use it for all kinds of things. No more fidling trying to get exactly 5ml in the test tube. It's crazy how something they simple makes things so much hastle free.

You just fill up the vial and then empty it to the appropriate amount of water. Or just get a syringe if you find the previous method tiresome.

The 2 brands that got me started in enjoying fish keeping were Sera and Eheim, sadly both are now very difficult to locate.

A great way to measure the water to 5ml line is with a baby or child syringe for medicine. You can get them with medicine or ask a pharmacist if you could buy one. They will probably just give you one or they can be bought on Amazon I believe in a bigger quantity. They make measuring so much easier when you do multiple tests.

I just use a 5 cc syringe to get my water in the vials. Then it's perfect every time.
I'm going to switch to this brand. The API is so confusing. Mine neve looks green green.

Just get yourself an injection to draw up 5ml with. Works for me and probably costs less than 50 cents in the US.

@@thedraminator6103 There's a variety of ways. You may not even need to remove it depending on your fish and how much Ca/Mg you have.
Usually you cut the hardwater with RODI water to get it where you want it.
