    I miss my Concept 30, it was my first rc helicopter that I learned to fly with. I lost it in a house fire, RIP Concept 30. Now I have a Hirobo Shuttle ZXX with the Enya 35 upgraded to the max. Flies like a dream. I've had it for over 25 years. Rebuilt the engine a couple years ago and it's still running strong.

      Yes, that fire sucks, as I know first hand. This helis and all my models and helicopters were destroyed in a fire that destroyed my shop and house on 911, 2016. Many folks sent me models and I have rebuilt most of them and fly them. Here is a newer video so you can see one that was given to me that I restored. Glad you have another heli.

    I'm still practicing on my simulators, but I'm in the process of assembling my first helicopter, an HK 450 Pro, of course under expert supervision, because even an electric copter is not a toy. We installed the 3 servos that actuate the swashplate today and fine tuned them on the DX8 transmitter. Awesome stuff!!

    My first heli was a Concept 30DX with the upgraded clutch and ball bearings that I got used but in excellent shape back in 2000. It had an old O.S. .32 and a really old mechanical gyro but man did that heli fly great! And the wind never bothered it.
    I practiced a little on the old Dave Brown sim as well as the first version of Real Flight beforehand and I was off of the training gear and doing forward flight and loops within a week and a half. Not long after that, I got a new Hirobo Shuttle Plus kit, built it, and got it almost ready to fly. it just needed a gyro. Unfortunately, I had to sell them. Seeing this video, makes me wish I still had them.

    I've just got a Kyosho Concept 30 SR-T complete with OS Max 32 F-H, Futaba Skysport 6H transmitter and FP-G153 for a very good price. Apparently it hasn't flown for a good 10 years, it'll be great to find out what helicopters were like from a time around when I was born! All I need is a replacement piston ring because it was lunched, but then I can fly it!
    I'd wanted a big nitro heli ever since I was in single figures, and I only in the last year or so managed to get one! So far I've got a Raptor 50 and aforementioned Concept 30.
    The thing about helicopters, they are just more satisfying than planes or quads. Planes are everywhere and so are quads now, but no one actually knows how to fly quads. An ability to fly helis really gives you a good basis for coordinated turns and orientation etc. on quads. Maybe the reason I like helis is that they are great for showing off, not enough people fly them to realise how easy they are, I won't tell if you won't ;)

    Oh! I'm glad I seen this 👍 the nexus 30 was my first RC heli in the late 90's my second (and you also have the video) was the Raptor 30. I did not like the thunder tiger motor that came with the Raptor 30 so I pulled the OS from the older nexus and used it for the Raptor. It just iddled better and seemed to have more torque. Ever since I have been an OS ONLY guy. I miss those days 😞 but, I can re live those memories through CZcams. ha!

    • @NightFlyyer
      @NightFlyyer  Před 4 lety

      Yes, I agree that OS is the best engines. Your right about the Idle too. I have newer videos with the Nexus because this one was destroyed in the fire, and a Subscriber sent me one to restore. Thanks for that awesome video of that beautiful Vintage Kyosho CCPM Nitro powered helicopter. Boy Back then even in the late Nineties these things were ridicously expensive.
    Then in the mid 2000's like around 2005 the Esky Honey bee debuted and it wasn't too bad so everyone could afford one but they were one of the first electrics so they weren't all that great but hey it was a start.

    Excellent video Dave, that's about the best i have ever seen a Nexus fly. My experience of this heli is that it was a badly designed heap of crap!. it was very unstable and just horrible to fly. the stock muffler was a joke and kept breaking where the bolts went through it. The TT raptor was much better in every way. its a good thing that kyosho discontinued this dog.

    • @NightFlyyer
      @NightFlyyer  Před rokem

      Im Fact? I have balanced many 1 bladed helis and have many videos on it, including airplane propellers and tail rotors and even 1 bladed drones. I know exactly how to balance them. But the fact is, these are 2 bladed helis, NOT 3 BLADED! Somehow adding more weight or distributing it as you suggest, as I have tried, does not make any significant difference. I appreciate the suggestion. Maybe you should try yourself and see if you can get a smoother run. Here is a video, that contains in the description box, many links to the videos I have mentioned. I restored my Nexus 30s in 2015, omg did it take forever to find the rare parts. (even harder to find in 2016) Funny thing is this helicopter is really the worst of the ones I own. But, I love it, it has more hours on it than any other. It's easy to build, always been reliable... Now if I could just get my hands on some ball links! I have a few that are getting a bit "sloppy". My O.S. .32 was pretty much dead after all those hours, but I got 3 ASP .36 .30 engines. Tried the O.S .37 but eh, can't adjust the low idle screw unless you drill a hole in frame, no thanks.. lol

    Because of this video, I wanted to try a Nexus, so i picked up 2 for $100. Now Im not sure why...lol. I think the Raptor is a better heli. Back in the day the guys called it the Nexsux...I thought they were just being funny. But, it really is a budget 30 heli. Z bends on the servos, very odd clutch that doesnt look too durable (that plastic cog thingy in the bell) and very low pitch range, and plastic everywhere!. Oh well... One is like new and the other needs a tank, feathering shaft and linkage. I think I can sub a sullivan 4oz tank, dig up some linkage then just find a shaft to be complete.
    It would be great to see a video or webpage about one that someone has upgraded....
    In my opinion go with a Raptor instead if you want a vintage project, parts are not that hard to find and is a great design.

      Position 1 and 2 are for stunt and 3D. I have mine locked at 90% across the top scale, so engine runs close to 100%, but not wide open, for inverted flying, etc. Hope this helps. This heli was destroyed in the fire in 2016 when all my models were destroyed along with my home. I have a newer video, as one of my subscribers sent me one. Here's the link. czcams.com/video/qDMBoC6Oa_E/video.html

      If the gear is okay and shaft not bent, and clutch not burned out, it may be worth it, because parts are nil to none. I love this helicopter and even did a product review in Rotory Magazine years ago on it. Good luck

    What did you have the mixture and needle valves set at? I'm at about 3200 Feet above sea level. I don't know if that has anything to do with the carb settings or not. It has the OS .32 Max SX.
    Thanks.

    I need a little assistance and advice, a neighbor set out a Nexus 30 for free on the curb, he gave me everything else that goes with it, he mentioned that all it needed was a tune up. Could you tell me what it's worth, and what it may take to get it up and running. I'm sure it's difficult without knowing anymore information than I've given you but it seems to have been taken care of. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I throughly enjoyed your video, and got me interested in having this helicopter up and running. Thank you
