  • I've been flying Kyosho Helicopters since they first became available in the USA. I spoke with Aki Suzuki of Kyosho recently and asked why not still import them. He said they were too expensive to export to the USA! Well I loved them and still do. Enjoy some old school flying and stay safe.

    I recently visited a friend of our local hobby shop named Ray who it turns out was responsible for the Heli flying scenes in the film Small Soldiers (1998). He used a Nexus 30 but put in a .46 or something for some extra lifting power. At one point there were 3 or more 'soldiers' hanging off the helicopter, which were highly detailed animatronic characters claimed to cost like $15,000 each. They had him flying thru windows into a house and right over flame effects that strongly effected the lift and made it difficult to fly straight. As a kid, I must have watched the VHS tape 100 times, mainly to fast forward to the Heli stuff haha. Small world we live in!

    My first and last rc nitro helicopter, I still have this beast for the most part. Whilst trying to learn in my back yard, the wind blow it up into the air and struck my arm. Got scared every since, now 20 years later I regret stopping the learning process. I would love to try again but I'm eye vision is so bad I'd lose orientation in no time once it escapes too far away from me. One of my life regreats =[

      That is a bummer. I actually had one break 4 bones in my foot, but never gave up, as painful as that was, but I can relate. Today you can fly helis and learn them on the simulators I have made videos on. And, there are lots of small helis you can learn on that are electric. Never give up. Thanks.

But, she has weight and mass, which made her a very stable bird in the air and eased my anxiety after I took her up. I will never forget that as long as I live. Thank you sir. 🙏 Hi to Ilea! • @NightFlyyer
      @NightFlyyer  Před 4 lety

      It would fly fine on the mechanical gyro. I know it’s hard to find parts but if you don’t crash it you won’t need any. 😉 it would be hard for me to take mine apart to make a setup video plus don’t know of many folks it would benefit today with the almost self flying helis on the market. There aren’t many of us old timers around like me that can do it. If you have any questions about it, place them here and I’ll try to help. Thanks very kindly.

    I remember looking at the Kyoshos in the Tower catalogs back when I was a kid....Concept 30, 60, EP, scale fuse., etc. All I ever wanted. I owned a Nexus a few years ago but could never get it to fly right (never had any power, could barely get it off the ground). I am in no way doubting you, but Suzuki's PC, corporate BS line of "too expensive" is garbage. Kyosho got pummeled by Thunder Tiger in the mid-2000s. Hirobo and JR pulled out of the US market because they couldn't keep up either. Thunder Tiger is pretty much dust now as well. Align is now the leader.

    • @NightFlyyer
      @NightFlyyer  Před 3 lety +1

    • @NightFlyyer

      These are Zeal 550 blades. I cut them down to 500 and balanced them so they do not hit the tail rotor. Thanks much.

  • @traileater
    @traileater Před 4 lety +1

    Another great video Dave! You still fly really good. I have a couple of these Nexus now, and have a couple questions.
    What do you do to free up the links on the plastic balls? Most all of mine have too much friction.
    Is that 550 i see on the blades? 520's are a bit harder to come by, what blades do you use?
    When I was more active back in the 90's, 2000's, several pilots flew the Concept SRX with great success, when the Nexus came out, they considered it a step down, an entry level heli. Was that Kyoshos intent with this model?
    Cheers

    • @NightFlyyer
      @NightFlyyer  Před 4 lety

      Well, The Nexus was supposed to be an easier and less expensive version of the SR. My night Flying Helicopter is an SR and it flies very well. I have used 550 blades on the Kyoshos, but cut the tips down, so they do not collide with the tail rotor. They work great. I have a ball link tool that cuts out the inside of the link to make the ball bigger. It looks like a ball with a slight blade on it. Otherwise, I use 3 in 1 oil on them. Here's a link to the one I have. Happy flying and thanks for the comments. www.amainhobbies.com/lynx-heli-3mm-plastic-linkage-ball-reamer-tool-lyx2502/p665198?gclid=Cj0KCQjwgo_5BRDuARIsADDEntS1tNAregwjJJ9zi7OPu0ehf-P9rPyFTeujimBiYVADEiEUn8TZ2BcaAmP4EALw_wcB

    • @chrismofer
      @chrismofer Před rokem

      Get Nexus forks. the original concept blades had no root thickness, and modern blades have like a 12mm root. Also the original blades were foam board, which I wouldn't try to fly with today, or wood, which may very well be warped by now. you can use newly manufactured Align 520mm carbon blades with the Nexus forks on your Concept, but in order to make that work on mine I did have to sand the backside of the fork lightly so the plastic didn't rub into the hub.

  • @PilotChris06FW
