Ahhh, those Beastie Boys even sampling themselves. They are pure genius.
They did that a bit in Paul's Boutique too!
I always wondered how some groups scratched off of records of songs that didn't exist yet.
@@trixstermillion2190- I had always wondered that too. I watched a video about how some DJs would record something at home during the day, and use it DJing that night. Apparently there was a type of record the manufacturer could make that wasn't as permanent as vinyl, but cheaper. They were normally used as demos for the finished record. So you could splice together a loop of something and then have it put on record relatively cheaply. I cant for the life of me remember where I saw that.
They're called dubplates.
Some of these samples are so obscure and buried in the track, and all of them blend so well with the songs. This was really the Beastie Boys at their peak in terms of production / co-production with Mario C (and without the Dust Brothers or Rick Rubin, of course). Who makes a song with modified classical music samples for the beat and a De La Soul lyric for the hook?
Plus some of the crazier stuff on this album was actually played by the Bboys, like the bass line on Just a Test for example.
Hubo una vez un gran rey que tenía muchas tierras, un castillo y también un amorrrr. Genios!
Greater than the sum of it's parts. Hello Nasty was perfect
8:20 that sampling is genius. I never even noticed it
hello nasty is a masterpiece. first album i ever owned and im glad it was
Same here!
Its shite
@@jamiewilliams685 No.
Same 🤘
What can we say about a band that made more than 1, in fact about 3 or 4 masterpieces?
Hello Nasty is so good, with Check your Head and Ill Communication making their run in the 90’s arguably the best run ever.
10:36 is one of my favourite ever bits of Beasties’ flow, the way they take the lines and join in on some phrases... it’s perfect 👌🏻
Those steel drums in Body Movin my god
Hello nasty is a masterpiece. 👍🏻💯 Everything they produce is a Masterpiece... specially Paul's boutique. Brilliant band. The beastie boys rule
Hello Nasty, some of the best lyrics ever on this album, "I like my sugar with coffee and cream" genius.
"Dogs love me cuz I'm crazy sniffable!"
NY drill rappers: We sample the most songs out of any NY artist.
Beastie Boys: *hold our beers*
9:20 I have a feeling the scratch is Ace Of Base - All That She Wants.
There were 4 samples in the song: ‘Intergalactic’ by the ‘Beastie Boys.’ (1998)
--------------------------
1. ‘Prelude in C# Minor‘ - Les Baxter (1968) (Which is the Organ sounding Moog Machine used throughout the song right when the first verse comes into play)
--------------------------
2. ‘Love Is Blue (L'Amour Est Bleu)’ - The Jazz Crusaders (1968) (Which is the jazzy bass riff used at the bridge of the song.)
---------------------------
3. ‘Hang on in There‘ - The Stovall Sisters (1971) (Which are the vocals saying the line: ‘Do It!’ During the bridge of the song and right before the song ends)
----------------------------
4. ‘The New Style’ - Beastie Boys (1986) (Which is the line: ‘mmmm...DROP?!‘)
This album's production BIG BANGED my musical brain back then. Thank you for the amazing breakdown. A lot of juicy tracks, bits and breaks to listen to.
I’ve wondered for years where the sample came from for The Move! Thank you so much for shedding light on the mystery!
Igor Stravinsky is SOOO hip hop man!

Excellent work, one of my fav albums
Great breakdown, guys. But how did y'all forget to include "Dr. Lee, PhD", which samples the drum machine backbeat of "League of Nations" by Simple Minds?

Hello Nasty is a sonic and sample masterpiece!
The steel drums on Body Moving are what make it. Pretty sure Jurassic 5 also sampled the Neil Merryweather drum sample on their song "Break".
Facts!!!
Nice work. I think Jurassic 5 used that Neil Merryweather track too. Never noticed before

The Beastie Boys are fucking amazing.
I have been able to find tracks that I have long forgotten because of this. Thank you and keep it up. Also, how in the hell do you figure this out?
whosampled.com
Yeah. I'm on www.whosampled.com all the time. Two of my favourite songs, when it comes to creative sample-use, are 'Faking the Funk' by Main Source, and the Salaam Remi remix of 'Nappy Heads' by The Fugees. Check them out on the site if you want to be really impressed by creative sampling.
@1:27 When those big drums drop, hold the f*ck on mang!
天才すぎ
ほんでオモロい
intergalactic has one of the best beats ever
3:43
0:22 isn't credited, but it's the intro titles to the classic children's TV show Thunderbirds. A staple of sample culture in the UK.
No-Body-Can-DoIt-LikeMixMasterCan!
1:28 gta 5 music
That's a legendary 70's chilean band called Los Ángeles Negros. Love that song also.
@ 8:40 is that Simon & Garfunkle, Sound of Silence in there?!
7:05 Workaholics intro
Jelly Donut every time it plays It reminded me of the beasties lol.
"Well I'm the Benihana chef on the SP12
I chop the fuck out the beats left on the shelf
You be like 'Hello Nasty, where you been?'
It's time you brought the grimy beats out the dungeon" - Ad-Rock
Could you do Burial next?
Can you do To The 5 boroughs?
Is there a video about the sampling source of "To The 5 Boroughs"?
I want to watch it!
Bradford sure sounds funny in grasshopper unit, like he plugged his nose.
Alex bradford plugs his nose in grasshopper unit

Damn I watched the whole vid, and still no one knows what the “Yo” beatboxing sample is at the beginning of The Move
Holy shit, I immediately recognized that Graham Central Station sample from I Never Dream by A.A.L. (Nicolaas Jaar). It’s not on whosampled though..
Jurasic 5 please
Salve! Bboys $&$&$&$
Brace yourself fool!

By this point they were doing a lot less sampling of other records and sampling themselves a lot more
1:27 Los Angeles Negros de 🇨🇱

What is the sample in 18:10 in Beastie Boys - Target Center, Minneapolis, MN (Aug 10, 1998)(In the Round)
czcams.com/video/Fstw2mXmXH8/video.html ?
The Beastie Boys never sampled anyone after Paul's Boutique. All the sounds you hear are produced on their own instruments.
are you joking or something? cause you're wrong.
@@David-qp4nn Of course i'm joking. Even when the Beasties are playing their own instruments they are one of the most sample-centric musical acts out there.
Yo!!! What about "Instant Death"??!
I don’t think any samples have been found yet, not that I could find.
ÁNGELES NEGROS VIVA CHILE
To all the people in the Dead Sea!! 😂
Please do beatnuts, or pete rock
