    At about 4:20, he should have said "You condition their brain to follow the first card". Not the"3" or the "diamond". When they're conditioned to follow the first card, that's when you deal from the top of your 2 cards. That's the key to the 3 card monte.

  • @ArduinoTronic
    @ArduinoTronic Před 10 lety +42

    There is another version where the target card is given a slight dog ear (twist) at one corner. They think you dont know this and then you rapidly straighten that card and dog-ear another as you pick up and do the swap as well.... nasty that one!

  • @ihikefar
    @ihikefar Před 7 měsíci +2

    I always teach/ learn the “throw” with the cards bent the opposite way. That way you get to see the actual card faces during the game. Much easier to visualize routine development.

    was with my family in the streets of new york and we saw someone doing this. i was 18 so i was legal and my dad is telling me don;t its a scam I cannot win. Had it not been for your tutorial i would not have been able to anti-scam them. I knew the trick and i knew which card to follow. After i won twice in a row the guy got up and walked away. (After he paid up.)

      They only let you win a few because they scammed enough other people. If they haven't a shill will override your bet with a higher one, and instead you will get your money back, and the shill will win if he bet on your card or lose if he bet on a different one. If this happens to you, don't bother trying again. It's very rare that you will get to win even once, even if you pick it. Also if you are allowed to win, then you are helping them scam other people, by proving they can be beaten by a non shill.

      You're spot on. I am a NYer and they will have plants and gaffs all over. especially if they pull in huge money Best advice after scamming a scammer is to go hang out with NYPD and buy them a coffee. Scammers also know time is money and will let a couple hundred walk if it takes too long to attempt a mugging. They also wont risk jail for a scam they will make the money back on tomorrow. They'll be pissed but they understand losses and gains better than anyone. @Impromptu

    • @MrBigenstien
      @MrBigenstien Před 9 lety

      I don't think generally they'd do that, there are ways to ensure you never win even if you "catch on" to what they are doing, and even if you understand it they can make your chances no better than 50% really though, if you get that one 50% chance win! you more than likely aren't going to be winning again.

    • @ghuegel
      @ghuegel Před 9 lety +2

      MrBigenstien I think they can make your odds 33% because they can do "the move" more than once.
      But if you had the ability (supernatural as it would be) to see through "the move", and you persisted in playing, I suspect that you're likely to be robbed. At least, that's what I've heard, and it seems plausible.

    I rode the CTA in Chicago in the evening for about a year, and watched this and the shell game in amazement. At a specific station, a group of people would get on who were clearly working together, but pretending they didn't know each other. One of them would "win" then lure someone, usually an immigrant - to bet, take their money, the whole group would get off at the next stop, and catch the next train back towards downtown. Repeat and rinse. There is no way CTA security did not know this was going on. If they had a guard on the platform where they changed trains, the whole thing would unravel. There was absolutely no reason a person would make that train switch.

    The best 3 card-monte I have seen was a street guy in Seattle. He would bend the corner of the card you were looking for and was kind of obvious about it. You would be thinking how can I lose with the corner bent, only one of the cards have a corner bent. But of course, somehow when he mixed the cards up the bent corner would "jump" to the wrong card. genius

  • @BonerTim3
    @BonerTim3 Před 11 lety +4

    They usually have partners in the crowd, when you bet on the right card, the partner goes in and bets higher on the wrong card... The scammer then says "sorry, i have to go with the higher bet" and gives you your money back. All wins they payout are to partners in the crowd. Never ever play any game on the streets.

    This tutorial is overly complicated in my opinion, I learned this track when I was 12 and never practiced 'picking up 2 cards with one hand'. Just pick up the 2 black cards using thumb and index finger with each hand and practice picking up the red card using your thumb and middle finger with each hand ( while holding the black cards ) . Show the red card , throw it to the other side , pick it up with the other hand , show it , and throw it back to the other hand , show it again. >>>

They don't play fair! And if you think you can outwit a professional scammer... well, let me know how that works out for you. If it weren't for people who think they could win, these guys wouldn't have an income.

    • @DaddyBeanDaddyBean
      @DaddyBeanDaddyBean Před 5 lety +1

      Agreed. There are three elements here - I'll call them the grip (picking up two cards in one hand), the throw (dropping the first or second card, seamlessly), and the shuffle (obvious) - and all three can be practiced independently, with the cards face up (bent the wrong way) so you can see what you're doing. You don't have to learn and practice the entire trick as a unit - learn each element, practice each element, start putting the elements together, and THEN turn the cards face-down. I practice false cuts & shuffles with the top card face up so I know immediately if I missed and can stop & correct it.

    You didn't mention the other part of the scam. Usually, the dealer states he must always take the highest bet from the group of observers. So, if by chance you figure it out, and want to bet on the correct card, someone else in the set-up team will out-bid you in order to make sure that the scam team doesn't ever lose. You never ever have a chance to win your money back.

      its depend on how much the scammer do it well, also if he recognize that you knew the trick he can throw the bottum card and stuff like that.

    For demonstration purposes wouldn’t it be easier to do this with the cards face up?

    So how do they do the trick of bending and unbending the corner?

  • @YourAverageScaper
    @YourAverageScaper Před 10 lety

    Actually, this is not how the really good guys do it. Some do it like this, but if you watch you will see some where long sleeves. They use a method that cannot fail like this one. They play with two black jacks and a red one, and also show the cards and mix more along the way. When they want you to lose, they show both the red and a black jack to distract you, then they slide another black jack down in place of the red and pull it in after palming it.

    So in a nutshell; get the mark used to seeing the 3 drop first then pull the ol' switcheroo by dropping the king first.
    Now I know how 3 Card Monte works.

      No, you know how one very old and known method of monte works. There are lots of sleights that are used in three card Monte and I could even fool you into thinKing I did that switch move when I actually hadn't, thus making your little bit of knowledge your weakness instead of an advantage to you!

    I don't think this give you an advantage over the 3 card monty hustlers... So basically now you have to guess whether he's throwing the top of bottom card.

    It forever amuses me when people say things like "this is supposed to trick people?" on videos revealing how something is done... But, anyways, Disturb Reality can you provide any tips on the release of the top card? I constantly clip the bottom card as it falls, or have it fall on it meaning I have to slide it out from beneath, or it all goes well, but the card spins slowly and lands at a telling angle >.

    That's why I always say "don't hold two cards in one hand" because as you think the bottom card is being dropped, he is actually opening his fingers around the card over and slinging it down as if it's the bottom card being dropped. After he drops the first card the card left in that hand is always the odd card.....or better yet....good Palmer's actually switch out the card and there is no odd card...I beat New Orleans street hustlers by grabbing both outside cards and flipping them over and saying "middle card". Money taken, game over😎
