Dealing Poker Crash Course – Principle 2b (Expediting the Math)
FIRST VIDEO OF THE SUMMER-CRASH COURSE DEALING POKER SERIES:
czcams.com/video/7It74RkBdrE/video.html
In Principle 2b, I begin to dissect the idea of expediting the math, which if I could sum it up in text, it would be like this -- we're separating pieces of numbers, then adding up parts which we've already memorized, or can easily figure out. For example:
The number 11. We know that 11 x 3 = 33 because it's 3rd grade math. But for an easy example, we're essentially separating it into two numbers, 10 and 3, multiplying 10x3 then adding the produce of 1x3.. 10x3 = 30, PLUS 1x3 = 3 aka 30 + 3 = 33 aka 11x3.
Where this is going to come in use is multiplying larger, 3 or 4 digit numbers, and implementing what we've learned from Principle 2a (Memorizing the Math x3), to allow us to get to large numbers much, much faster. For example:
The number 565. 565 x 3. We're going to separate it into two pieces: 500x3 PLUS 65x3. If you followed the last video, you may have already memorized that 65x3 equals 195, simply knowing that end piece of information is what makes the magic happen with this math. We can easily determine that 500x3 = 1,500, then if we were to add our already memorized [195] 65x3, we get the final correct answer, of 1,695.
This works for 4 digit numbers and beyond. For example:
The number is 3,345 x 3. Because I know, from the last video, that 45 x 3 is 135, I simply have to add that onto whatever 3,300 x 3 is, which is easy to understand behind 9,900. 9,900 + 135 = 1,035. With both this technique, and a 'Round-Up' technique that I show, I'm confident you'll start being able to expedite this math and beginning to better understand how it's used with the formula for calculating the pot. Ultimately leading you to an audition for a hopeful job as a poker dealer, in a future portion of your life.
Learn the formula, and you'll be ahead of the curve, by a large margin.
The Formula is:
[The Previous Bet] x3
+ the drag (if there is any - sometimes, there's not)
+ what's in the middle [aka the pot]
If you can memorize increments of 5, numbers 5 through 95--multiplied by 3, then this will lead to understanding a huge shortcut to calculating larger numbers, in your head, quickly.
5x3 = 15
10x3 = 30
15x3 = 45
20x3 = 60
25x3 = 75
30x3 = 90
35x3 = 105
40x3 = 120
45x3 = 135
50x3 = 150
55x3 = 165
60x3 = 180
65x3 = 195
70x3 = 210
75x3 = 225
80x3 = 240
85x3 = 255

Oh my God i cant believe how much time has gone by!!! I was DEDICATED to your videos 10+ years ago!!! I was just watching Jason Ladayne shorts and thought, "Where the fuck is that kid that tought me how to do ALL the card controls, second deals, bottom deals, passes and false shuffles that this dudes doing?!? I'm glad you're still around bro. Real talk.
Still floatin around, buddy. So cool to hear that you’re seeing people today doing stuff that you remember learning from me 10 years ago! That’s an incredulously cool feeling. Thanks for sharing.
are you going to do any more magic videos? or are you done with that?
Hey, Evan! Glad you're doing well! You're still a great teacher--you make things easy to digest and add humor. Even if I don't pursue a career as a poker dealer, I'm still learning with this crash course. Thanks a lot for everything, Evan! I'm looking forward to the next recovery journal! Stay strong and God bless!
Thank you for the nice message. I will say, it is a nice party trick to have someone give you a random 3 or 4 digit number then give you a number between 3 and 10 and you can quickly multiply the first number by the second number quickly in your head. Overall you may shock yourself at how much better you get at math doing this dealing stuff.
I really appreciate it I need this thank youuuuuuuuuuuu
Art Garfunkel looks great!
I only want to learn this trick for my brothet
Thank you Paul Harris for creating this effect. I learned how to do it from his first book
Are you going to be doing magic videos again? Or are those magic videos done?
Do you still do magic? I bought the invisible deck years ago because I saw you performed the trick😁 Greetings from Denmark 🇩🇰
The invisible deck was the trick that hooked me for life, after I saw Blaine do it on his 2001 TV special when I was a teen. I still will always have the skillset of magic when I decide to perform. It’s something that will always be with me.
I know how this works 😆, see first of all this pen has ink that will visble after few seconds now magician will wrote x in his finger and put that finger in spectators hand now that x will printed in spectators hand now he will tell to close the palm and he will draw in his own hand and do this trick if you need proof just pause in 1:50 we can see black x in Middle finger of magician
I coughed up flem hours later after doing this twice. One would suspect that isn’t good. Unsubscribe
I love Loops!
hey man, hope you see this. i know that it may not seem like a lot to you, but your channel got me through it when I was a kid, 11-14 years old. I'm now 19, at college, and still showing my friends the magic tricks you taught me. so happy to see you're still posting! its great to see you doing good too, you really helped me through a lot as a kid! :)
I’m happy to hear that dude and it means more to me than you may imagine that I could be a positive influence in your life. Only show ‘em your greatest hits!
I am a great magician. Your clothes are now red! Wow! Please, do it again!
Still my favourite colour change after all these years. It's not that there aren't more visually impressive colour changes, it's that this one is easy, practical, impromptu, angle proof (not so true of many other methods!) and always baffling to the uninitiated.
Bro the magic community misses you. There are tricks I have learned from you that I perform every single time I do magic (which is ever other day)
Good, that was the intention (not to be missed lol, but to provide you guys with ‘the good ones’) Share, which effects are the best for repeated performances and which tricks can be left ‘on the cutting room floor’ What’s good? What’s not so good? What’s great? What’s bad? And provide the tools to streamline aspiring performers to performing the best tricks so you don’t have to go thru the headaches of the average tricks and how to make the good tricks great.
@@DisturbReality the best one you have taught me is the criss angel color change. I have done this trick A Lot however it does require a lot of performance skill to make it amazing. The thing is with this trick I will go back and forth with the colors just to surprise spectators. They will be like “Can you change it back red?” And I will be like “No I can’t that would be some David Blaine shit” and then I change the colors back to red.
I just tried it, and it’s actually hard to do because it burns like hell. But it’s true, if you push through the pain, you breathe out vapor.
They would be amazed by a lightbulb turning on.
Awesome set 💙 I used to watch your magic tutorials during high school, now I'm all grown up listening to your electronic music set at my software dev job... Life is strange, but good!
That's awesome! Hope you enjoyed and thanks for commenting and watching all these years
@@DisturbReality I definitely did enjoy. Thanks for sharing something from your life all these years 🥲 Never knew you DJd before though! I'm listening to this set for like the 3rd time and I hope you post more in the future!
@@dotcomstruggle I def wanna do more 30-minute midnight sessions and improve on the lighting/sharpen my skills on the decks. I picked up DJ'ing as a healthy hobby to aid in kicking my habit of drugs. Tomorrow marks the 1-year anniversary of me buying my first dj controller and starting to learn, from scratch. This month marks 13-month's clean <3 I listen to this set on repeat sometimes, too!
@@DisturbReality I'm very proud of you man, 13 months of being your best self must feel amazing. It's great that you've chosen to see & enjoy the beauty in life. I think DJ'ing goes really well with your "Disturb Reality" brand, it'll be very exciting to see you grow in this niche!
All of the cards are green except for the double backed red/green card. You show the same red back of just the double backed card.
I wanna hear more!!! So interested! How much money can a person make I'm so interested!? Is it possible to make 100k dealing!?
That’s a lot of hands to deal, if you’re speaking about in a year’s time-it’s feasible but realistically a challenge. But you could make 100K in less than 1.5 years, with a regular full-time schedule
I had one guy in Vegas do the trick. I had mentioned I knew some of the tricks because it's one of my favorite tricks. So... he did it again. But he swapped the card in my hands 3 times while it was sandwiched and I have no idea how the hell he did it. It wasn't a heat activated card or anything and I swear he never touched the thing. Still baffles me after so many years.
Wasn’t planning on listening to the entire thing, but here I am at work 35 minutes later. 👏
That does my heart happy. Thanks for watching and listening and a very special thank you for the kind comments
Thanks again for the nice series of comments, I hope someone sees this and they find themselves in the same spot you were, having listened to the full 35 <3
@@DisturbReality I truly mean it brother! I’ve been here since the start of your career with the documentaries and tutorials. You’ve always had an eye for cinematography, teaching, music, visual art……everything you touch turns to gold! 🙏🏼 🙏🏼 🙏🏼
I’ve been a sub/watcher of Evan for YEARS. This mfer is so talented at literally everything he does, magic, card handling, filming, documentaries, mixing, art, and photography. He needs to do something big. Idk exactly what that would be but he needs to do something.
Smooth.
Eyyy, this one is great, dude! Nice chill track selection, and the transitions are silky smooth! <3
Thank you Kerm! Got a little ambitious with teasing back in the ‘What’s that?’ line from Nicki during Sons of Maria, wish that could’ve been how I intended/hope for, thanks for the love and comment and watching and listening! Was so much fun doing the extended tease of ‘Faded’ from ‘Tears,’ followed with another extended tease and intro of ‘Hung Up’! Definitely getting closer to elements of making decisions based on intuition/impulsive and anticipated sound. You can see me get geeked during ‘Breezeblocks’ after I isolate the vocals and make a Pan FX combo to make it sound like ‘I love you soOoOoOoO’ circles around the viewers ears and head before the final drop. Look forward to whatever comes from the ultimate addition of ‘Hazey’ to a future video and hope to improve the video/lights/aesthetic for future installments. Gotta call and pick your brain on how you think the best way to bed the sound for ‘I’m fxkn LocoOoOo’ would sound during that moment of Hazey.
Dope mix!!!
Thanks for listening bro!!
I’m happy to see you posting !!! Like and share for the algorithm! I wish you the best from bottom of my heart!
Pretty good selection of tracks! Long time sub here btw. Dunno if this is a one time thing but I need music like this so keep it up if you will 😁
Thanks for watching now and a long time, buddy🥰I enjoyed producing this video and am happy that it’s able to be viewed on CZcams. Hope to produce future mixes and videos to go with them. Glad you enjoyed, truly thanks for watching.
Do you still have the same number you’ve had forever? I’ll get ahold of you while I’m in town.
As far as you’ve known me, yes👍🏼
This series is really making me consider getting back into dealing. Are you still in Houston? I’ll be flying in Thursday night until Sunday morning.
I'm still in Houston, Kraig, yes. Near Galleria area (y) <3
Soooo, get a feel for room, play a few rounds. Then? Make nice with croupier & ask about his opinion about the place & if & what he enjoys about working there, etc...?
Not necessary to play, but I will say that one of the better ways to learn and understand how to deal is to watch and observe GOOD dealers. You'll know who is a stronger dealer versus a weaker dealer. Playing is not necessary. If you found one poker room near you, then you ought to be able to find other ones. I'd recommend migrating around and stepping in room-to-room to see which one you naturally gravitate and resonate with.
@DisturbReality DFW! plenty of options around. Hopefully, they won't kick me out for loitering! Lol! Much apreesh this alternative source of income idea 💡! Never would've thought of it. How amazing it would be to come in a near polished performer! Thanks to you, broski ! 🙏
Step 1: Know your times tables of 3! EX 3*3= 9 so 30* 3 = 90 etc... Step 2: any increment of 5 simply means add 15 to the easier round # below. EX 35*3 = (90+15) = 105. Step 3: practice for accuracy & speed will come! Step 4: use handful of industry standard chip's (to become familair with colors & such) & generate random # to practice! Step: 4.5 practice up to 10k for worst case scenario! (Worst case for math but best case for tips)
Step 1: EXCELLENT!! Yes, knowing your times tables x3 is going to make this entire process SO MUCH EASIER as new videos become available. Step 2: You've noticed an interesting thing about math that I've mentioned in a video before, will discuss further in future videos, but will comment again now: "There's 1,000 different ways to get to the same result." You've used a trick or technique to get to 105. You did 3x30 then added 15, which comes to the correct answer, 105. You could also simply KNOW and UNDERSTAND the fact, that 35x3 is always going to come to 105. But this idea of 1,000 ways to come to the same result will start taking notice as you start using multiple techniques in this math, and changing the technique to get to the answer, based on the scenario at play. EXAMPLE: If there's $100 in the pot, and someone bets $65, and the next person raises to $150, and the next person says "POT!" Then the formula would be $150x3 + 65, +100 in the middle -- which would be 450 + 65, + 100.. the numbers are starting to get a little complicated. You could do the math the way it's laid out, or you could start moving around the pieces, you could do $450 + 100 [550] then finally add 65 to get 615 is the new bet. Essentially re-arranging some of the numbers, if and when need be, to make the math easier---but ultimately get to the same number. More on this, later. Essentially you'll be constantly using different math tricks and techniques to get to the same end result. If you were given 390x3 you could do 39x3 then add the 0 at the end (this is hard).... you could do 300x3 [900] + 90x3 [270] to get to 1,170. ORRR, you could round UP to 400... and do 400 x 3 [1,200], but to piggy-back off your concept, you know that there's a $10 difference between 390 and 400, and that multiplied by 3 equals $30, so you'd subtract 30 from the 'rounded-up' 400.... 400x3 = 1,200 minus the $30 difference... equals $1,170... same answer, just multiple ways to get to it.
If by the next time I drop the next video, I can ask you, "what's 65x3?" and you know it's 195... and then I ask what's 55x3 and you say 165, and if I ask what's 85x3 and 95x3 and you can answer 255 and 285, then I come back and ask what's 45x3 and you can answer 135, and you know all this, the next video is going to click in a way that puts you ahead of the pack <3
Is there a way to practice online or an app on the phone to get use to using the formula ?
Hold off on practicing the formula, for now. And instead, start giving yourself random 2-3 digit numbers, and multiply them by 3 [in your head]. However, make sure those 2-3 digit numbers END with either 0 or 5. i.e. You shouldn't yet be multiplying 392 by 3, you'd either try multiplying 390 or 395 by 3. If you can give yourself numbers that end in either 0 or 5, and multiply them quickly, by 3, then that's the best practice you can be doing, to get ahead of yourself--for now. When you're walking or driving or bored, just be asking yourself, 'what's 85 x 3?' 'what's 270 x 3?' 'what's 45 x 3? 'what's 315 x 3?' 'what's 20 x 3?' Start doing this, it will give you a head-start on the next video to be uploaded, and will ultimately help make calculating the pot EASIER, once we circle back to it.. there's also another video to be released about calculating the pot, that needs to be addressed, so start testing your math boundaries as the next video is being prepared for upload.

I see things in your channel related to addiction, the last time i checked up you were into wrestling. I wish you the best, and would like to speak to you personally! You have had impact on my youth, and i wish to give that positivity BACK to you! Speak to you soon, two card monte is my favourite trick to this day.
Make sure you start incorporating 'Here then There' (Hand Sandwich trick), and start showing that effect to your friends. I celebrated One Year Clean, last week so I'm doing great, buddy! Glad myself and Disturb Reality have been a source of positivity, in your life.
@@DisturbReality that is a good recommendation to get everyone involved in the trick for sure! And its cool to be able to interact with you for real, never would have thought i would speak to one of my childhood magic heroes so to speak😂 your tutorials have enabled me to amaze so many people and to interact with them in a fun way. I see you are on your journey to deal poker proffesionally, may you succeed with your ambition in this! And stay strong, keep uploading, and remember that there is a whole community on youtube who wants to see you do better everyday! Good luck💪🏻
@@COURTFIXINGISLIFE make sure when you're doing the 'magical moment' aspect of any effect, that you take a little time with it. All of the sleight/trick may be done, but the 'magic' hasn't happened yet. When it's time for the magic to happen, give it its own moment of time to shine. Rushing a trick to its finish to get the reaction can take away from the reaction ;D
Step 1 : look like Thor
Glad you're doing well, Evan! Question: what inspired you to pursue dealing Poker, and how did you land your job?
I had no source of income, lost everything, hospitalized twice, and was working stocking shelves for $11.15/hr or something like that -- would work 40 hours a week and bring home less than $1,000 a MONTH and essentially had to start from scratch, having not worked a 'real job' for a boss in over 7-8 years... As most things in life, life finds a way... I was put on to the poker-dealing scene/bubble and, having dealt cards when I was 19/20 for a year or two, had SOME basic experience. But this time around, I was learning a completely new series of games, on-the-job learning, mistake after mistake learning the hard way day after day, with one real objective in my heart: Try to get better at it, everyday. After my first shift, in a less popular room, with less experienced dealers (which the players don't like), you couldn't imagine the elation within me when my supervisor, out of curiosity, asked, 'How much did you make today, if you don't mind me asking." And the jubilation I had when I told him "$77." Which was HUGE for me, having $77 cash to go home with that day--and he felt bad that the room wasn't more populated to provide more, for me--knowing that I was completely struggling with life and in a foreign city, doing a 'real gig' for the first time in 10 years, and just... overall in a bad way trying to pick up the pieces of my life, mind, and spirit. Fast forward to just yesterday [May 2, 2024], I was clocked in for 6.47 hours, I dealt 77 hands during my shift [at cash tables], and really only spent 4 hours *ACTUALLY* dealing cash--and I made $364, during those 4 hours of throwing around cards. Plus I'll have some cash coming my way later this month for dealing some tournament tables and a small envelope for pay-days of clocked-in hours, for the week. Essentially, I averaged last night, $45.50 PER (30 minute) TABLE --> Basically $81/hr yesterday, when you compartmentalize the time spent dealing vs the time spent in the building. Can't quite think of many other gig, with 'no education,' that pays $81/hr... and that number fluctuates any given day.. [I used to play poker with my childhood friends in my teenage years and host at my house--same basement that Disturb Reality started in, and I was always just naturally the smoothest/efficient with the cards/being the dealer]
@@DisturbReality Dude, this is super inspirational. Thanks so much for sharing! I'm glad things are going well for ya man. Keep it up! Looking forward to more videos.
@@davidhoang6071 have Principle 2b [Expediting the Math] I’m currently editing, have a sound designer cleaning up the audio while I’m adding visual text elements to the tutorial to help in a variety of ways for the viewer to hopefully understand what I’m attempting to explain.
Thank you for the videos, im recovering from addiction and these videos give me hope, i have been watching your videos since the good ol magic days, thank you
I feel blessed to hear that these are helping you. I'm in a rough moment in time, and it helps me to read that this is helping you.
@@DisturbReality god bless you
@@SkyStrykerDj God bless us all, amen Sky.
Is this not the Bernoulli principle in effect 🤨
I saw this done on another channel called fleetwood271 and it was the best I've ever seen performed, he separated each bill front and back and seamless change. Looks like real magic, this performance looks very suspect and I would immediately know you are doing some shenanigans cause you fan them out and don't turn each bill over. Plus, your stack is too thick, fleetwood271 stack looked like 5 bills all the time. That was either extremely well edited or the guy is a real moneychanger.
Gr8 2 c u upload new content again. Keep it up
21 years old I'm getting back into magic after not doing any tricks since I was 13. I was a huge fan of your channel and I hope you don't give up on your magic career
Happy to see you doing your thing. Regardless of magic or wrestling or poker. I, like many others, grew up on your stuff. Your 2 card monte is a trick that has stuck with to this day. Its cool that youre also in Houston. Ill be keeping my eye out for you. Hopefully we can meet and talk someday. Truly an inspiration you are. Stay strong and sober, love you brother ❤️
I’ll be dj’ing this Tuesday on Memorial Drive in Houston - 7:30 - 9p timeslot, free for everyone and 21+ crowd! Something to think about depending on what you’re doing Tuesday night🙏🎧🙏
i’ve been following you for many years now (i even pleading with my parents to help support your deck of cards that never came to be lol) and i’ve matured a lot since starting to watch your channel. really proud of the life changing you’ve been working through and i wish you the best of luck with your current and future endeavors in your life. best of luck. aspire to inspire ♠️
Congrats on hitting that 1 year Evan, this seems like a great opportunity to make some money and put myself through university next year, looking forward to learning more. Helped me years ago in school with the magic tutorials and now coming in clutch with this new poker series, you are a blessing. Let's keep the momentum going man!
Will be filming the next principle over the weekend with hopefully filming another video or two (to have in the can) and release the next principle as early as Tuesday/Wednesday.
Hey bro. I just wanted to come and say thank you for everything you done, I’m 24 now, used to watch you when I was 12. The magic tricks were cool but it wasn’t comparable to the life lessons you always taught me to rise above any situation and I will never forget that. So thank you so much bro for making me who I am today 🖤🙏🏽
Could t have done it, without ya buddy!! Thanks for the nice words🫶🏼❤️🎧
A tutorial? Feels like turning back the clock. Glad you're doing well and happy that you decided to come back to CZcams. Can't wait to learn how to deal even though l will never do anything with it.
You might find a weird fascination toward numbers❤️
