QA Manager for a plastic company here. When you say that "clay" is used in a wide variety of plastics, what you don't realize is that it's actually synthetic clay. Yes, that's right: mankind has found a way to artificially replicate the properties of earthen clay without it actually being natural clay. So I'm going out on a limb here and making an incredibly bold claim by saying that 100% of all entry level chips (China "clays", ceramics, etc.) are made using synthetic "clay". The only chips that use natural earthen clay would be those from Paulson or Classic Poker Chips.

Interesting. Synthetic clay to me is not clay then. What it is however is misleading marketing.

@@savedfaves If people can't tell the difference between natural clay and synthetic clay chips, why would they care which of the two their chips are made of? Is it just for the resale value? I suppose this can also be asked about real and synthetic diamonds but in my opinion if someone is buying jewelry only to look nice, they shouldn't care if the diamonds are real or not because their appearance is exactly the same. But I agree there should not be misleading marketing; chip manufacturers should advertise their chips as "synthetic clay" for people who care.

It fun to see what an ABS slug chip looks like in the inside, I don't have to take my Harris New Orleans ship from over 10 years ago to an orbital sander to find the metal piece that is inside of it, or the same thing with my Beau Rivage chip.

I have MCR Laurel ceramic chips and placards.... I like the way they feel, but chose those for a particular reason. The chips do not have a dollar sign, so for casual games I use them as cents... 100 is a dollar, 500 is $5...etc. I thought I got the higher end with the best price point, but I didn't know the particulars of the types. Very interesting breakdown.

I am looking to make some custom shaped tokens (not for poker, but something else). I want metal core in them that magnets can stick to. Any clue where I could get such things made?

Please please do this i bought a set before buying samples of monte carlo and sold them a month later spend the $5 to feel the chips before committing to a set! people who would say if ur gonna get an entry level set would say get majestics off apache with good reason! This is coming from someone who has gone from entry level chips to paulson chips in less than a year

It’s a good solid choice for the money. Good colour differentiation, stack well. Strong and heavy.

    Hello Dr. I am Japanese.
In Japan, casino games involving money will soon be legal only in tourist areas. It is expected that the number of Japanese poker chip collectors will increase in the future.
I have a question about poker chip materials. Do Chip Lab clay poker chips use real clay? Or is it just expressing the texture of clay with resin?
