Do not ever go on trail alone if you're inebriated. Don't hike or camp alone in remote areas. Carry weapon; know how to use them with your activity (hiking, biking, climbing..).
Watch the parking lot before starting the trail. See who's coming/ going. Pause to check your surroundings while out on the trail- sounds, smells, sight, etc. Something seems off, bolt!! If you're on an out-and-back trail, be smart on the return trek to your vehicle. I've seen some weird stuff and had some strange interactions with strangers on trail.

Also, we spend a lot of time in the Smoky Mountains, and you would not believe the # of people that get out of their cars and head down a trail with no water, no locator beacons, (there is no cell service in most of the park), and no supplies. The weather can change in a instant in the mountains, so you must be prepared at all times.

Same in Rocky Mountain National Park. Folks starting out late, no water or supplies of any sort with their KIDS. The weather can change at that high altitude instantly. The parks are not like walking in their backyard but that's how they approach it.

I live near the AT down about 15 miles from the Georgia border in the Southwestern Appalachian's. I've hiked a few trails on and off the AT but have never camped out there. I also hiked with my German Shepard dog and carried a hand gun. I no longer hike the trails like the AT and the Bartram trail since my dog passed a few years ago. Mostly I stay on the smaller trails we have in my town along the rivers. I always lock my doors at night here. But I know many who don't. Lately I've noticed a lot more homeless around town, so I keep my doors locked and my vehicle as well. I can't imagine hiking the AT alone and camping out there. Scares me to death, especially after hearing what goes on out here in the wilds. Thank you.

Its always better to lock your windows, your house, your car, your garage and go to sleep. With or without a big city or homeless or shady people. Like its a thing you do regardless who is near you and why. Thats how you are safer because you dont know who will open them, maybe your neighbours or anybody.

I really appreciate your thoughtfulness for these families, my cousin was lost in Yosemite five years ago, my father my uncle and myself went to look for him along with the search teams, we found nothing, absolutely nothing. This guy was a ex-army ranger he was a tough man, and whoever or whatever got him had to be tough as nails to take him down. We have went back many times, but found nothing at all. I just can’t understand what the government continues to ignore what’s going on in our national parks, had no idea how many people have gone missing in Yosemite alone, it’s thousands, but you know that, but it was a surprise to me. I don’t think we will ever have closure, but we will continue to look for him, no matter what, we just can’t let it go, we miss him so much.

I told my mom that when I come up to visit for the holidays in a few weeks I was gonna check out some trails and whatever. It was either later that week or the next week I talked to my mom and she told me about Meredith Emerson. 😢

You don't have to go on a walk in a huge park to encounter problems, your local area woods, parks or forest hold many adventures. Solar I have spent thirty years walking around with my three Bouviers. I got Noah at age eight weeks and we spent the next ten and a half years together, until he died at the end of a walk. I spent the next ten and a half years with Elsa, who arrived at my house at six weeks of age and who died at home on her favorite quilt. Levi is still alive and well. I could write a book about our walks, from running into men with rifles, finding a bunch of guys sitting up in trees, a man in camouflage sitting amongst bushes in the woods on a Sunday afternoon, running into a buck in rut, trying to avoid a running deer being chased by hunters with rifles, finding people in tents, running into a guy who tried to beat up my dog, getting lost in a new park at night, finding the body of a half eaten horse, etc. These days I carry a flashlight on my keychain, a personal alarm and bear spray, even though we don't have bears in our area, just packs of coyotes.

I can't imagine whatever happened to Susan Clements...and I can only guess as to what misery her poor daughter went through while waiting for her mom, so they could spend the day hiking. Such a sad, mysterious case.
And that poor 🐻 bear is right! It was only being a bear, a wild animal in its own home and habitat! How dare they kill it for that reason. She probably had babies around if she was being aggressive. God forbid the parks lose any tourism money 💰Whatever happened to protecting the animals habitat?! 😢
As for the serial killer... I have no words, except it's utterly terrifying. The injustice system should never make a plea deal with serial killers. 😡

I remember the Emmerson case, I was living in Atlanta during that time and had visited the area not too far where she initially went missing. So much went on up there, i thought it was just another murder. But I'm just finding out now that the guy was a dam serial killer 😬

Why no more music during the videos? What made some of those old videos was the music, particularly that one track that I wouldn't know the name of but it was in most of those early marathons and it had a really bittersweet ring to it that suited the missing persons presentations perfectly.

Sue Clements went missing in the smokies, was truly a sad sad misfortune. Her mysterious disappearance was devastating for her 2 daughters. During the week of SAR it was never even considered a possibility that their mother wouldn’t be found . Needless to say it was catastrophic when SAR had recovered Susan. Very sad

I find it hard to believe that they find a woman dead and missing clothes in a drainage ditch and they say no foul play???

    • @jonathondavis170
      @jonathondavis170 Před 11 měsíci

Oh, they KNOW it to be foul play, but it's of paranormal nature, and don't want to let the cat out of the bag: serial killers, cults, fraternities, bush people/societies, normal and paranormal predation, abductions, cryptids, advanced technologies, and many more mysteries...I spent my whole life working for the federal government and will tell you that the more you end up knowing, the more you realize just how much you don't know - and just how compartmentalized Intel is!
This is a normal occurrence every year in our national parks...there are many dark, irrational, and unknown things out there that the NPS knows of that the general population doesn't! The woods aren't as safe as otherwise suggested, and much is hidden from most of the citizens...

love the accent❤, and the fact that you said "poor bear", my thoughts exactly, an innocent animal was killed because it was showing "aggression", no, the aggression came from the fact that he probably spotted a source of food, so yes, it was guarding it, and the source of food was someone without any better idea than getting drugged up in a dangerous environment, without a care about the consequences for them (which it doesn't matter, it's their own choice) and for the poor animal in this case
