- After watching Oliveira vs Tsarukyan at UFC 300 we need a rule change for knees to a grounded opponent. Mokaev, Tsarukyan, Evloev and more all use this rule to their benefit in order to avoid damage and shoot takedowns for free, let me know what you think in the comments below.

You can blast a man into the shadow realm with a running start flying knee but can't knee a man in the face on the ground 😂 makes no sense
When a guy is standing he can absorb the impact by bouncing back or moving his head.
When he is grounded there is far less possibilities to dissipate the impact of the strike, and the marge of error for the striker is almost 0.
The UFC just don't want to deal with dead people, just imagine someone lying on the ground, taking a clean knee on the head.

It will never happen grapplers will always be protected to keep the myth alive. The reg Joe can take bjj and think he’s a ninja. Rules always have protected grapplers, even the first UFC the opponents were hand picked so Gracie can win.

The reason the rule exists imo is because it makes the sport look less barbaric and bloody who ultimately makes it more digestible and thus more marketable to a wider audience. It's the same reason why gloves are worn. Because fights become less bloody when your not bare knuckle fighting.

They can go to Nevada and say "Were going to move all Nevada fights to another place if you dont adopt our new ruleset" and then other states will follow suit. The UFC brings ALOT of money/tourism/excitement to Vegas, so they WILL fold to Daddy Dana.

They just want to remove the hand means grounded, I believe this will adversely affect strikers trying to defend takedowns while the wrestlers will be able to spam takedown fails and just hangout on their knees.

It's funny that you barely ever hear about mountain grapplers in ONE (the promotion known for the knees to a grounded opponent rule being legal) but in the UFC there's a metric fuck ton of them. Especially considering that ONE has shows in Thailand, Singapore, China etc. which are as close to Russia as Vegas is (Also Kazakh fighters >> Dagi fighters)

I started watching ONE a couple of months ago and I'd never noticed that. You're absolutely right though.
Honestly the best thing about ONE, even better than no boring mountain grapplers, is their "muay thai with the little gloves". Between the UFC, PFL, and all the promotions on Fight Pass I can see plenty of MMA. ONE is giving us something different and I'm 100% here for it.

It is true, fighters are starting to exploit it more and more often. Had grounded knees been illegal arman or aljo would not be in those positions in the first place, but since they have the option they choose too go the easier route.

Arman didn't even abuse this rule. I literally just watched the fight and Charles flips Arman to his knees and grabs the neck, literally not allowing Arman to get back up.

Agreed with you. Arman in no way was exploiting the rule. In fact Charles has tried to stay on his back many times eg the Justin Gaethje fight. Gets knocked down and Justin had to get the ref to stand him up. Arman also slipped in the first and Charles tried to go for a guillotine. He could have let him back up.
Whether or not he abused the rule is irrelevant, the point is he shouldn't be safe from knees to the head in the position he was in and the fact that he was is because of the stupidity of the ruleset.

The reason for this stupid rule is the boxing commission in the USA. This is why MMA promotions in Asia always have better ruleset. MMA shouldn't have to deal with those guys that are used to dealing with another sport.

I fully agree on this subject.
Because the rules are based on state athletic commissions it’s a big risk for the UFC to try and push to make rule changes like this because some commissions might not except the new rules and cause more confusion for everyone. If they start to sanction themselves like they do when they are out of the country sometimes they could implement changes like this.
This is the real answer. We get it's a silly rule, so do the UFC probably, but the cost to fix is too high
Simply start the change now and have it be implemented over the course of time. Commission will fold considering the money the ufc gives them
All the state commissions would have to do is look at fights in promotions outside the US to see allowing grounded knees doesn't result in a bunch of brutal, devastating knockouts.

When changes to the scoring criteria were made it took years for a handful of states to move to the new system. And one of the states that didn’t change was Texas, whose governor is friends with Dana White. Getting one SAC to do anything is difficult, let alone all getting all of them to do something in unison. Saying all you have to do is look at the evidence to governmental bodies in the united states is a laughably naive statement.

That’s not even comparable. We’re not saying allow shots to the back of the head or elbows to a spine. Getting kicked in the face is the same whether you’re grounded or not. I’m not saying allow curb stomps. But soccer kicks and knees should be fine against grounded opponents who put themselves in that position. It worked in pride. And ONEfc to DJ . And DJ fixed that part of his game.

Preach it Guru, I agree totally. ONE does allow those knees, and you see the panic from grapplers that screw up the takedown, they need to scramble so they dont get kneed, it makes for better fights.
This rule and 12-6 elbows. Flying knees, Muy Thai clinch knees, slicing elbows to the eyes, kicks to the knees, standing headkicks... all legal moves which can end a fight and cause serious injury, but can be illegal in very similar positions

arm in guillotines require a few more complex things to finish that are hard to get right when your sweaty worrying about punches. a simple headlock isn't anywhere near enough arm in, you need exact chinstrap wrist placement. the opponent has to have a high head (high in relation to your body) and you need to crunch his in (vs classic arm out where you pull up) and roll your wrist. they do work if you every key thing right but its much harder then people think and jumping guard is big risk
