Apparently Jose wanted to box on the undercard Tyson vs Paul card but the UFC wouldn't let him since he had one fight left on his contract. So now he asked for a fight and they needed someone for 301 so here we are.
And it’s a perfect proper retirement for Aldo since he never got the opportunity due to Merab leaking it. He gets to retire in a Brazilian arena.

Dillasnake robbed Aldo of his title shot, as did Merab when Aldo won 29-28 by stuffing every single takedown, winning every striking exchange and scoring the higher significant strike landed % in every round only for Merab to somehow steal it based on 'control' (after failing every single takedown) and kneeing the thighs which racked up the total strikes.
Reminder Merab's fighting style is so boring it crushed the soul of Aldo and caused him to lose his will to compete and retire while in the top 5. Merab wasn't able to get even a single takedown but he spent the entire fight being held against the cage defending takedowns.
