definitely... what's up with this video though, it isn't Debbie Harry... I'd be honored if some Blondie & Christmas music fans would take a listen to my acoustic piano & vocal performance of CHESTNUTS ROASTING ON AN OPEN FIRE on my YT channel. Live acoustic with no autotune or backing tracks. Thanks and seasons greetings.

Goddamn, how could this song have escaped me all these years??? I thought I had an encyclopedic knowledge of 80s music. Guess not. This song is outstanding. I just heard it tonight for the first time. Smh.
This best Christmas song of all time the saxophone, guitar, bass guitar, drums, lyrics, patty's voice and the harmonica everything about the song was and still is so on point!!
I always liked this song and felt the kind of relief sung about in the beginning one year when I wasn't able to "go home" for Christmas until the actual day, but then the city, and the two states I would be traveling was hit by a huge snowstorm on Xmas Eve. After talking with mom and agreeing I should come home when I could, the pressure of the holiday was off. I built a snowman in the backyard (at age 30), helped some neighbors shovel, and then baked cookies, listened to Xmas songs (including this one) and read. Previously I had spent (and enjoyed) every Xmas with family and pretty much have since, but that year was one of my faves.
When I'm feeling the pressure, of the massive list of everything that I gotta do between work, outside decorating and gift shopping and wrapping and all else...I hear this song and some how it calms me, and raises a little spirit in me...absolutely one of my Christmas favorites!
Tracy Wormwood!!! She played with B-52s (Love Shack) and Sting, among many others. Kind of ironic that she was the only female instrumentalist in The Waitresses!!!
One of my favourite Christmas songs. It takes me back tp the 80's. Just showed this video to my wife and she likes it. Got to hear it during the holiday season.

Always liked this one. The sound, the story the song tells. And hearing it reminds me of working part-time in the Foodtown and the A&P (has the pride in me with the world's smallest turkey!) food stores and this song would come on the speakers. Always seemed to be on Christmas eve, snowing, everyone rushing, the store pure madness and christmas trees being sold in the parking lot amongst strung up lights. Lots of great memories. Oh, and love the sax. Merry Christmas!
this has me thinking about how fun The Waitresses' first album was. I began listening to KROQ (Southern California) around 1981, and The Waitressess' first album, "Wasn't Tomorrow Wonderful' was released in January of '82. At the time I was taking comedy improv workshop classes at the Groundling Theatre on Melrose Ave., and right next to the theater was ground zero for Punk and New Wave music - Vinyl Fetish Records. That's where I purchased The Waitresses' first album.
This song is pure Joy!!! Merry Christmas everyone remember make Christmas the way you want it. And to all of our loved ones and great friends who are no longer with us...We love you and will never forget you!!! Merry Christmas y’all.
My husband plays this song for me around this time of year. This was about twenty years ago, and he's still doing it! He knows this is my favorite Xmas song. The reason is, that, I thought I was going to be alone for the rest of my life until I met him! I read in the comments below and that's sad how Patty Donahue passed away at age 40 from lung cancer [smoking]
A new-wave Christmas! This is one of the modern staples of contemporary Christmas season music. This period ended sometime after the mid-1990s. After that period, any other Christmas song made just doesn't cut it and is not made to be memorable....or not listenable!
A very sad end to lead singer Patty Donahue. Passed away at the age of 40 on 12/9/96 from lung cancer. Poor lady smoked herself 2 death. A very heavy cigarette smoker. Gone so soon and so young. May she RIP.
My absolute favorite Christmas song. My sister and I have a "thing" where it's not officially Christmas until this song comes on the radio. Has to be on the radio. Doesn't count if you play it yourself. It always makes me sad that she died so young. I'm watching this video here for the first time since....probably when I saw it on MTV! It is the STRANGEST video! LOL It has nothing to do with the story in the song! (That I can tell, anyway.) In fact, I can't figure out WHAT is going on in this video. And you barely see her singing. Just making weird faces. LOL Welcome to the 80's, I suppose!

You’ll know the lyrics to this song off by heart if you work in retail...
Perhaps the coolest bassline in the history of Christmas songs.
Tracy wormworth. She is amazing.
It's never quite Christmas for me until I've heard this song ten or twenty times.
For a song that's about 35yrs old it still gets absolutely hammered in our house every Christmas 🎄 By me mainly, well always by me 😆
LOL
I bloody love this song :)
I want to come to your house for Christmas.
That was funny.
For us it's Jingle Bell Rock, Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree and THIS.
I just got back from 400 years in the future and they still play this tune around Christmas. Even the Aliens dig it..
Did the aliens help us trash the zombies, or is that still a thing?
Merry Christmas
How did the aliens manage the Trump wall??? LOL
@@David_Theisen C'mon, everyone knows they interfered to help him win the election. A wall is nothing to them.
Well thats good to know, I think we can all agree that a future with no music, is not a future worth living in
Most underrated Christmas carol in existence.
Totally agree with you this is an awesome Christmas song haha!

It's amusing anyways.
One of my favorite Xmas songs. RIP Patty Donahue (March 29, 1956 - December 9, 1996).
Lead singer?
thespeez yep
Who would have thought...just one year younger than my mom and I was a teen when this song came out.
same
Was looking for the hilarious comment on this video I saw last year:
"They look like a bunch of strangers who met at a bus stop" :D
This song is absolutely made by the bass playing of Tracey Wormworth. Thank you madam, you are a real musician.
The singer died 20 years ago?! God, bless her. She lives on in her hilarious singing of this classic. I love it.
This song is one of my favorite Christmas songs. It's so unique and fresh, like decades later
Tracy wormworth was am amazing bassist. She created some pretty cool bass lines for these songs.

The absolute best bass playing in the history of Christmas music. Hands down.
This song was a staple of WPST FM radio out of Trenton, New Jersey, in the '80s. It's somewhat astounding to think that "Christmas Wrapping" is going on thirty-eight years old. It's an infectious sort of tune that _still_ comes into its own each year as Christmas draws closer. In the mid-'80s I had a set of stereo earphones installed inside my industrial hearing protectors so I could listen to WPST on the overnight (11 PM to 7 AM) shift. Back in the day this song was a morale booster working that overnight shift near to Christmastime.
'80s new wave is one of the few ways that I still enjoy Christmas music. This song just rules!
The bass line is fucking great!
Really is.
Sure is Glenn,
Did you know Tracy Wormworth played the bass on this song. She's been the B52's bass player for a long time and she's played with many top artists as well. She's amazing!
She played guitar in David Lettermen's CBS orchestra for YEARS!
Not true, Ryan. Tracy Wormworth didn't play with the Letterman band. Her brother is the drummer in Conan O'Brien's band. (Full-time after Max Weinberg left.) But Will Lee was the bass player for the "World's Most Dangerous Band" during Letterman's entire run. Felicia Collins was the female guitar player in the Letterman Orchestra.
When I first heard this song playing at the mall, as a kid I thought that was Debbie Harry singing, but my dad told me, it’s a group called “The Waitresses” and he had this song on record.
Listening in 2020 and beyond
2:10 The way that shot pulls in on the bass player, who smiles. Love it :D
Their style is so awkward and their beats are so off that it makes this song really interesting and a bop
Walking thru a shopping centre and this came on. I havent heard it in years, instantly shazzamed it and am now blasting it at home on the speakers with all 3 of my kids dancing and jumping around to it! What a classic.
This song is great for all the Grinch's and Scrooge's out there who deep down still believe in the magic of Christmas
The baseline is sick as hell. Still rocks in 2019. :)
That bassist has some busy fingers on this one!
It’s not Christmas without hearing this song! Still rocking it in 2017
2018!!!! :-)
Dec 18, and I've been listening to it since 1981 when I was 16, holiday tradition with me👍👍👍
It's the only Christmas song I need to hear! Guess I'm good now. Next: Cruel Summer.
2018 😝
Early MTV..thanks ..such vintage guitars..image boys..image 😃
Merry Christmas and we miss you Patty Donahue, gone way too soon.
smoked too much
I quit cause in new York $ 10.00 a pack, new York is highest taxed state
The Christmas song with the best bass line ever.
Goddamn, how could this song have escaped me all these years??? I thought I had an encyclopedic knowledge of 80s music. Guess not. This song is outstanding. I just heard it tonight for the first time. Smh.
Patty. RIP... Miss ya babe.
The Waitresses sang the theme for the one-season cult series,"Square Pegs."I bought the '45 in 1983.
This best Christmas song of all time the saxophone, guitar, bass guitar, drums, lyrics, patty's voice and the harmonica everything about the song was and still is so on point!!
So sad Patty's not with us anymore. Best fucking Xmas song ever!! Bass line is thee shit!!
+Doug Steele Dig it, Brother! Used to play back in the day. A bass track like this is why a cat chooses bass...shine on!
Agreed..If only all bass lines were as musical.
gonna throw in the term muscular, too. :-)
Aiight. Muscular.
This reminds me of many a Chic bass line and especially 'I Want Your Love'.
I can't listen to The Waitresses without wishing that more bands these days had sax players
+steve hardman I know. Just about every hit song in the 80's and early 90's had a sax solo in it.
+steve hardman shame the leader died in the 90s, lung cancer :(
+plezx29 she was a chain smoker.
Abinash Mishra I didn't know that
+steve hardman Brass is class, but sax to the max.
Just because I'm a grumpy old man doesn't mean that pop songs weren't better in the '80s.
They were better.
They were better by a damn sight in the 80s. They weren't 'focus group tested for marketing and sales.'
They weren’t necessarily better. The good ones are the ones that get remembered.
The bass playing in this song confirms your statement.
+Shen Doodles
Yeah, but there were a shipload🚣 of "good" ones!! 😀🎄🎅
This is my favorite Christmas song ever omg🎅🏼☃❄️
+Angie Bittinger mine too and you NEVER hardly hear it on the radio at least in my area.
One year later, I've been hearing this song on a daily basis at Starbucks.
the first time I heard this song was at an American Eagle in the mall a week before Christmas. It really put me in the mood to do some shopping.
this song is absolutely TIMELESS
OMG...this is a classic. I love the song because the beat is so catchy. This song stayed in my head all day.😊
Jerome Sears same
Aren't the pretenders from somewhere in ohio
i saw them back in the day in my hometown (Dayton, Ohio) fantastic show !!
This is literally my favorite Christmas song 🎄

What, with *that* bass line? (Tracy Wormworth was *killin'* it!!) Every year!!!! I absolutely hate Xmas, but I love this tune!
35 years old. 1980s Xmases were the best.
Davin Dx agree 👌👌
I'll drink to that!
My 3 year old is obsessed with this song and I’m pretty sure I’ve watched this video at least 300 times🤣
I remember seeing the band in Manhattan in the 80s. Blown away with sounds then and now!
The bass in this is savage
Tracy Wormwood!!! She played with B-52s (Love Shack) and Sting, among many others. Kind of ironic that she was the only female instrumentalist in The Waitresses!!!
Agreed! Fantastic bass playing
@@Stiglr Thanks for that! That is bass played the way a true bassist plays and not a guitar player slapping a note that matches the chords.
The only Christmas song I seek out each year, great voice and. Kickass brass. RIP
More Tracy Wormsworth on bass...unsung hero, fantastic x
Thank You Akron, Ohio!, This enhances my UK Christmas, R.I.P. Patty.
One of my favourite Christmas songs. It takes me back tp the 80's. Just showed this video to my wife and she likes it. Got to hear it during the holiday season.

Always seemed to be on Christmas eve, snowing, everyone rushing, the store pure madness and christmas trees being sold in the parking lot amongst strung up lights. Lots of great memories. Oh, and love the sax.
Merry Christmas!
My favorite Christmas song of all time.
this has me thinking about how fun The Waitresses' first album was. I began listening to KROQ (Southern California) around 1981, and The Waitressess' first album,
"Wasn't Tomorrow Wonderful' was released in January of '82. At the
time I was taking comedy improv workshop classes at the Groundling
Theatre on Melrose Ave., and right next to the theater was ground zero
for Punk and New Wave music - Vinyl Fetish Records. That's where I
purchased The Waitresses' first album.
I was only 3 years of age then...mmm
god I miss vinyl fetish and amoeba records they were the best!
Merry Christmas Eve from NY 12-24-18
Saw them perform this back in the day. Awesome !
RIP Patty and everybody knows this is the best Christmas song
This song is pure Joy!!! Merry Christmas everyone remember make Christmas the way you want it. And to all of our loved ones and great friends who are no longer with us...We love you and will never forget you!!! Merry Christmas y’all.
One of my top 3 xmas songs evvvvah. Pure genius.
RIP , Patty. You make me miss New Wave so much!
My fave Christmas song
I wonder if this 🎶 video was played on MTV back in the day❓
I went out and bought this Christmas of 1982, in Bremerton WA!!!!! Loved the whole album! :)
Such an awesome bassline !
A new-wave Christmas! This is one of the modern staples of contemporary Christmas season music. This period ended sometime after the mid-1990s. After that period, any other Christmas song made just doesn't cut it and is not made to be memorable....or not listenable!
probably one of the best and most playable out of season christmas songs ever
Best Christmas song ever. Still listening to it in January!
Congrats on finding the name of the song that you couldn’t remember the name of but love
May this song and her memory live on past 2018
This is one of my favorites! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
One of the few christmas songs I don't hate
A very sad end to lead singer Patty Donahue. Passed away at the age of 40 on 12/9/96 from lung cancer. Poor lady smoked herself 2 death. A very heavy cigarette smoker. Gone so soon and so young. May she RIP.
Didn't know that,that is sad.
40 is rare for a smoker to get lung cancer.
I know of 2 people who never smoked and got it -- one guy was 30.
Bender!
So glad I quit this year
I’m 78 and still smoke...surgeon general lied!
The best Christmas song ever! Merry Christmas Patty in heaven!
Real good Christmas song.
that bass is amazing.
Still better than today’s Music Garbage. I’m 20, My sister and I love this song. 😂😂😂😂😂😍😍😍
one of my fav christmas songs!:]
I first heard this on the your moms house podcast and it’s been stuck in my head ever since! I like it😁
Love this song!
One of my top 3 favourite chrimbus songs. Cracking bass line!
One of my Christmas faves - fab!
Omg I still have this album and every song is great
I had to look up this song. Its 2019 and its not even Christmas, just because I like it.
Captain Obvious here, but this is one of my favorite bass lines of all time. Just ripping !
This is one of the few Christmas songs I will listen to any time of year lol
Bah Humbug; now that's too strong!
'Cause it is my favorite holiday.
But all this year's been a busy blur
Don't think I have the energy
To add to my already mad rush
Just 'cause it's 'tis the season.
The perfect gift for me would be
Completions and connections left from last year.
Ski shop encounter most interesting.
Had his number but never the time,
Most of '81 passed along those lines.
So deck those halls. Trim those trees.
Raise up cups of Christmas cheer.
I just need to catch my breath;
Christmas by myself this year
Calendar picture. Frozen landscape,
Chill this room for twenty-four days.
Evergreens. Sparkling snow.
Get this winter over with!
Flash back to spring time saw him again
Would have been good to go for lunch.
Couldn't agree when we were both free.
We tried, we said we'd keep in touch.
Didn't of course 'till summer time,
Out to the beach to his boat.
Could I join him?
No. This time it was me;
Sunburn in the third degree.
Now the calendar's just one page
Of course I am excited.
Tonight's the night I've set my mind
Not to do too much about it.
Merry Christmas; Merry Christmas
But I think I'll miss this one this year.
Merry Christmas; Merry Christmas
But I think I'll miss this one this year.
Merry Christmas; Merry Christmas
But I think I'll miss this one this year.
Merry Christmas; Merry Christmas
But I think I'll miss this one this year.
Hardly dashing through the snow
'Cause I bundled up too tight.
Last minute have-to-dos:
A few cards, a few calls
Because it's RSVP.
No, thanks. No party lights.
It's Christmas Eve, gonna relax,
Turn down all of my invites.
Last fall I had a night to myself
Same guy called; Halloween party.
Waited all night for him to show.
This time his car wouldn't go.
Forget it, it's cold, it's getting late.
Trudge on home to celebrate.
In a quiet way unwind.
Doing Christmas right this time.
A&P has pride in me
With the world's smallest turkey.
Already in the oven, nice and hot.
Oh damn! Guess what I forgot.
So on with the boots
Back out in the snow
To the only all night grocery.
When what to my wondering eyes should appear
In the line is that guy I've been chasing all year.
'Spending this one alone, ' he said.
'Give me a break, this year's been crazy.'
I said 'Me too, but why are you..
You mean you forgot cranberries too?'
Then suddenly we laughed and laughed.
Caught on to what was happening.
That Christmas magic's brought this tale
To a very happy ending.
Merry Christmas; Merry Christmas
Couldn't miss this one this year.
Merry Christmas; Merry Christmas
Couldn't miss this one this year.
Merry Christmas; Merry Christmas
Couldn't miss this one this year.
Merry Christmas; Merry Christmas
Couldn't miss this one this year.
Merry Christmas; Merry Christmas
Couldn't miss this one this year.
Merry Christmas; Merry Christmas
Couldn't miss this one this year.
Merry Christmas; Merry Christmas
Couldn't miss this one this year.
Merry Christmas; Merry Christmas
Couldn't miss this one this year.
Merry Christmas; Merry Christmas
Couldn't miss this one this year.
Merry Christmas; Merry Christmas
Couldn't miss this one this year.
Merry Christmas; Merry Christmas
Couldn't miss this one this year.
Thank you, Robert. That was very nice of you❤
Thanks bro, I always wanted to know what the lyrics were! Merry Christmas!
A&P has PROVIDED ME
With the world's smallest turkey
So sad... She smoked herself to DEATH. WTF!!! She left us with this Xmas perfection.
I have heard this song twice this season already!
one of the few Christmas songs I love
Greatest bass line of any Xmas song ever!
Patty was great, sorry that she left us so soon. Early 80s classic, never gets old. Christmas Wrapping Forever!
It just wouldn't be Christmas without Christmas Wrapping!
this fucking song has played over 32 times at work today ... ahhh i cant stop singing lmaoo
