  • Your car battery is really heavy, because it's full of chemistry! Inside, it’s made of Lead and Acid-- That’s why it’s called a LEAD-ACID BATTERY. This episode of Science Garage talks about how batteries work, how alternators work, and how they work together to power your car!
Bart teaches us how cars work by blowing stuff up and cutting things in half. It’s a science show for the car lover who’s easily bored. Join Bart as he explains the science behind everything automotive. This is cars down to the atom. This is Science Garage.
Some of our best videos ever are coming out soon, stay tuned so you won't miss a thing!

Good teaching. Only mistake is that car alternators regulate the "low" current in the rotor/armature. It's sends the "low" DC current via the slip rings, where more current is given, to the rotor generating a stronger magnetic field, thus making the alternator make more "High" output current.
What you described in your vid is a motorcycle alternator. They have a device called a regulator-rectifier that rectifies and then regulates they main "High" output current. The rotor is NOT "low" dc powered in a motorcycle alternator, it has permanent magnets. I like these teaching vids, I can learn a lot from this.

they probably use a full bridge rectifier which is 4 diodes that convert ac to dc in a much smoother manner. in electrics they also come pared with capacitors to further smooth out the current in circuit for those sensitive electronics in your phone etc.

Most likely yea, but it's one of those small overlooked things, like how in some vehicles (im not sure if its a thing all makes and models do/have) but some cars supply 14V to the battery as apposed to 12V
