    Great job John. Thanks for addressing my restricted injector question. I was in the weeds that day, I've done the injector flow test many times. Why I didn't think to do it I have no idea, getting old. I also have the OTC injector tester got to be 25 yrs old, still works great. Long videos are not an issue for me, can always go back and finish them up. BTW love the tip for clogged cats by looking at IAT temp. I generally use back pressure and on Fords the BARO reading is effected by clogged cats . Keep em coming

    Solid video John! The information presented was a great base starting point and evolution of the fuel/fuel injection system. Not to worry about the video length. The technicians who are committed to learning will watch no matter the length. Keep the videos coming. looking forward to your net video, no matter what it covers. We both have been in this industry a long time and I enjoy giving back to those who will listen.

    Hi, Sir. I have learned a ton since I discovered your channel. Using the IAT sensor to help diagnose a restricted cat was something that I never imagined. Next time I check for a restricted cat, I will surely use that PID. The question is how much of an increase is to be expected. I would like to ask you this question that has been driving me insane: As current follows the path of least resistance, why a shorted injector in a Sequential Fuel injection does not blow the fuse? Is it because of the amperage drawn by an injector is not enough to blow the fuse when fired sequentially?

    • @electron-john
      @electron-john  Před 6 měsíci +3

      thanks for the kind words! first the iat sensor if temps are exceeding typically the 180 degree range on a hot summer day, suspect an issue. again, always double check your suspicions. second, fuel injectors are controlled by pcm drivers in most cases. meaning although the fused circuit supplies 12 volts for example, no real current flow happens until the driver turns it on. so with that said, a pcm driver usually has a limit of about 3/4 of an amp so often you will have a driver that fails instead of a fuse.

    Can't tell you how many fuel pumps I replaced on the late 80s early 90s gm 2.8 I worked for a rental car company.and like you said most of these very low mileage 2.8 also ran like most of the 6 injectors were carboned up

    Nice refresher on the older stuff and a good primer on the newer stuff. If I may make a suggestion if you delayed the live feed over-lay on the charts by 5 seconds it would allow us to pause it to be able to read it before it gets obscured. Hope I explained this clearly. Regarding your 68 Camaro I had a 68SS396 Camaro with RS pkg. My friend had the L89 in his Camaro.

    Forgot to add couple idea's for future videos, or part of video. The biggest reason I don't use my scope as much as I should for testing is I'm unsure what tests can damage to scope. I know there ignition tests in general but don't know the test that I need to be careful with. Second- Any quick tips on getting hybrids to stay running. Third- Turbo diag, what key differences vs non turbo , PIDS you look at , underboost causes. You could probably do a whole video on turbo diag and issues. I know the purge system is totally different. Also PCV issues causing oil leaks under boost ... Thanks

    The injector cleaning ideally should be followed up with the end result. Especially the 2 injectors that weren't atomizing the fuel. Will those injectors be restored to atomization? Will the PCM adjust the injector width to compensate for incomplete atomization for an individual injector? Can the O2 sensor scope pattern be triggered to watch the stft on a cylinder with a streaming injector? (non-atomizing iow)

    • @electron-john
      @electron-john  Před 6 měsíci +1

      hi and thanks for watching. it was odorless mineral spirits and for video purposes I added a small amount of refrigerant dye just so the camera would be able to show it better on film. very observant! I was wondering if anyone would ask this question. lol

      @@electron-john Thank you for making it easier to see, it’s little details like that help the audience understand better proof of concepts. Last question for you, do you recommend that machine for servicing gdi injectors? I am looking to purchase one I have looked at the Launch and this one and cannot decide what route to go. Thanks again!

    • @electron-john
      @electron-john  Před 5 měsíci +1

      @@SHEREKHAN_EVO definitely recommend this unit over launch. I used both , the last training company I worked for used to promote tools for launch. This one does everything the launch does but for a more affordable price. I paid 580 off Amazon for the unit I used in the video if it helps. The do have two models, one for gdi and another for non gdi , be sure to get the gdi unit so you can use on all types of injectors. Thank you for supporting my channel also!

    why did gm quit recommending injector cleaning on gdi injectors? service bulletins quit including gdi injectors. only replacement even if they were under warranty.

    • @electron-john
      @electron-john  Před 6 měsíci

      in some cases they are an improved injector . also depending on the cleaning method used, sometimes they don’t get cleaned well enough
