We bring you the throwback of the Women's Artistic Gymnastics Uneven Bars final from the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London. Russia's Aliya Mustafina won Gold with China's He Kexin in Silver and Great Britain's Elizabeth Tweddle with the Bronze medal.

This uneven bars final will remain the most iconic. No one knew who would prevail with so many strong competitors on the table.
Yup. Tokyo was a flop compared to this, especially since we all had so much hopes for Tokyo's bars finals. Our expectations just crashed like Nastia at 2012 Olympic trials.

What was that skill called that she did where she went from the high bar to the low bar did that straddle thing and then flipped around and caught the high bar?
So many strong competitors in this final, The London AA champion Gabby Douglas, the reigning UB world champion Viktoria Komova, the reigning UB Olympic champion He Kexin, The team Captain of the Russian and Chinese team, Aliya Mustafina and Yao Jinnan respectively, and UB Specialists Elizabeth Tweddle, Koko Tsurumi and Elizabeth Seitz! Before the competition started, I felt like 5 people had the chance of taking the gold medal!
Beth tweddle was two time world champion in Uneven Bars (2006,2010) and Koko Tsurumi won a silver in this event back at 2009 worlds
Yao jinnan wasnt the captain of the chinese team though, it was deng linlin and even after 2012 it was always shang chunsong
@@Nicole-db2ub If Nastia made a proper comeback would her routine been viewed as the same difficulty as the others?
chaseypoo17 Her difficulty was a 6.5 in 2012 and she always had some late handstands and that dismount wouldn’t stand a chance in this code.

He Kexin is a queen. She's one of the five Chinese gymnasts in history to make 2 olympic teams, and she got a medal on UB both times!

Beth muscled through her entire routine. Aliya floated and made it look easy. That would be the decider in the judges eyes since they had the same difficulty.

The most exciting UB finals ever! I remember thinking at least 3 or 4 people could’ve been the gold medalist!!
Other years might be more exciting, with more talent pool filling up the top 8 to be the champion. But to beat London's variety, where all three medal-winning routines are so distinctly different from each other yet absolutely amazing in their own ways? Now THAT isn't going to be topped anytime soon.

@@austinxa2339 Vika's score in AA final was a bit higher than Aliya's score in EF. So yes, she could've edged her out if she hadn't hit her feet
@@fortheloveofcats2462 Not really tho, bc Vika scored a 15.666 in the finals and the deduction for hitting your toes on the bar is 0.300 (in this quad’s CoP). So if you add it up, she would have gotten 15.966, just enough to edge out He Kevin but not Aliya

You know a routine is gold material when it becomes the blueprint for routines in the event for the next quads
Also means it's easy to copy and paste. No one can copy and paste Kexin and Beth's routines because whey are so difficult.

hitting the low bar is a 5 tenths deduction so it she would've scored 9.166 in execution

Not true, her best performance in that Olympics was in qualifications, and she scored the exact same score as Aliya did in EF. And it's a known fact that whoever ties with Aliya Mustafina is doomed.

Tweddle was extremely overscored. Yao Jinnan deserved the bronze.
I wonder if tweedle is still kicking herself for that landing because that cost her the gold. Still an amazing competition between the top 3
I think if Beth would have had a cleaner landing(even a stuck one) she would have just been barely behind mustafina
@@maxtorres874 nope. I believe she had a 0.3 deduction for the 1st step and 0.1 for the 2nd step. More than enough to put her just ahead of mustafina

If Nastia trained earlier and was consistent, would she have been realistically placed as the gold or were the other girls' bars harder?
Nastia's execution wasn't anywhere near Aliya, Vika and He Kexin. Beth's difficulty was higher than what Nastia could've done in 8 elements. So no, she couldn't have placed in the top 3.
0 chance to win a medal
the only UB final that could rival this would be 2021
No way. It pales in comparison. All sorts of errors from not enough warm up because they can't warm up on the spot. Also, the difficulty is nothing like this this year. And I have no idea why the bar judges deduct scores for no reason. Execution was never above 9.0 and they ended up outscoring others only based on difficulty regardless of how they actually look.
2021 was a horrid embarrassment.

I enjoyed the Chinese gymnast's routine more than Mustafina, but I don't fully understand the COP, so other than seeing the beauty and artistry of Mustafina, I don't really understand how she won gold. Those release and catch combinations by Kexin were a thing of wonder.
