Team USA's Jade Carey scored redemption winning the gold the medal in the women's floor exercise final inside Tokyo 2020's Ariake Gymnastics Centre, leaving four-time Olympian Vanessa Ferrari of Italy in second and Japan's MURAKAMI Mai and ROC's Angelina Melnikova in shared third place. Carey posted a 14.366 for the win. In the vault final, Carey stutter had stepped down the runway and bailed out of her planned vault. But just a day later, in the floor exercise final, Carey launched her tumbling to the rafters, nearly sticking every tumbling pass including a layout double-double and front layout stepout to double-double tucked.

she is INSANE! one of the highlights of this routine is that she slows down on her twists on moors! like WHAT? that proves how “easily” she can added another twist and do the triple double layout

The endurance she has after performing such hard skills is just amazing
Notice she doesn’t even stop to breathe for a few seconds before her last tumbling passes like most gymnasts would, she not breathing heavily either

Carey was correctly placed 7th out of 8th for her E score. But her D score was *so* much higher than everyone else's that her E score didn't matter as much.
It's totally fine to not like that high D scores tend to decide the medals! But the scoring was correct and fair. And just as Carey should work on her artistry, others should work on their difficulty.

Yup. If you can tumble like that, your difficulty score will definitely carry you through. I much preferred Ferrari's or Mai's routines but Carey won fair and square.

shes wearing the same leo that suni lee wore when she competed in the aa finals. guess this leotard really is a luck charm but nonetheless im so happy for jade carey especially after her shaky vault finals i really think she deserved this medal

I'm genuinely not seeing everyone's dislike for her dancing. It's different than other gymnasts, but in this routine she's connected to the music, and she's clearly nervous, but i don't see the lack of artistry. I'm literally a dancer, I should know. It's very contemporary
There’s a lack of fluidity that makes it seem choppy. Her style is still nice for what it is though. Just different from what we’re used to seeing.

It’s that the choreography is more a sequence of poses rather than “dance.” Having said that, this is the most connected I’ve seen her with her elite choreography and I think it suited her well. I really enjoyed this floor routine and find myself coming to watch it from time to time.
It isn't contemporary. Contemporary typically has more emotion and fluidity.

It doesn't beat dance moves every time though. If someone did a quad turn with the leg held horizontal or a double-twisting ring leap, that would equally be rewarded, but no one is doing insane dance moves that are this much ahead of their competition.
@@matthewxcountry turns and leaps are capped at E so no they wouldn’t.
I always love what a step out looks like, it seems to slow it down just enough to make it look so beautiful!
Jade is the gem of the gym.
if she's come this far in her career and still isn't great with artistry, it's worth considering that putting on an emotional performance just makes her uncomfortable. a lot of people struggle to express their emotions, especially in performances and it can be due to a number of mental obstacles such as social anxiety; i struggle with this myself. she doesn't need thousands of people pointing out on social media that it's not a strong area for her, trust me she knows.
I would agree, but I think her movement and choreography could be improved. Yes, at the age of 21 she’s never going to be super expressive if she’s not already. But it was very lacklustre and she almost looked like the dance moves were a practice session or something. It was barely even in time with the music. It came across like the only thing separating her routine and men’s was some vague hand waving. Maybe focusing more on dance elements like increasing her leaping and turns would help distract from the underpar artistry. I otherwise agree and think emotional expression and facial expression is innate and you can either do it or not, and I actually think the requirement to look judges in the eye is discriminatory for people with certain conditions (not saying Jade has a condition).
yeah if you don't want people to comment on you, maybe don't be at the Olympics being broadcast to every country in the world.
seriously though their world class athletes, not weak little girls, give her maybe a little respect that she can handle it.

@@standarsh8056 They are both world class athletes AND children most of the time and Simone brought home 4 gold medals in 2016 so she could clearly handle the pressure. STFU

it doesn't really matter, she got so far just the way she is.I think it rather helped her not being so emotional, so she keeps cool under pressure and don't mess up
My guess is that she isn’t a musically inclined person... she doesn’t FEEL the music in her soul. She appears to struggle to even stay on the beat.... some ppl are just born without the sense of rhythm or music. But her athleticism won the day.
She has no artistry whatsoever but she has the heart of a true champion and fought well after her disastrous vt final. Others would've called it quits but not Jade.

Agreed. It’s all pose, pose, pose. The construction of her routine is very smart. However, you can tell she is a hard worker and worked her a$$ off to get here
Agreed. Her music doesnt help her but she, like a lot of the Americans don't use their music. I was so wanting to see Simone do her floor. It was quite pathetic at first. Then Sasha helped her to choreo a great program. I only saw it once but it was times a million better than it had been. It was just nice to see Jade come back from the disappointment of her vault.
She deserved the gold medal. The tumbling passes are crazy and I don’t think she’s was robotic. The style of song is slower 🎶🥇🤸🏼♀️

I wasn't expecting a choreography like this from a gold medalist but that's okay, she did a awsome job in tumbling, congratulations to Jade and also to Vanessa Ferrari who finally won a medal at the olympics

The more I watch this routine, the more I think the choreography was not that bad. She has no facial expressions though and no passion when she moves.
That isn't Artistic gymnastic, it's tumbling A to B, the Japanese and Vanessa Ferrari done a more pleasure exercises (compatibly with the rules)
@@matteoSGP beauty, it artistic gymnastics, but the score don’t care about artistic and yes execution of the elements and the difficulty, so she has more difficulty which helped her to win the title! she is the best sorry

Jades tumbling was amazing still I feel like she’s a bit like a robot. Also she looks so sad! I remember Shawn.. she was always shining bright. Still Jade deserved the gold!
She IS kind of robotic. Perfectly said. Compared to Simone (who looked like she was having fun in her gold medal floor routine) and Aly (who has so much artistry), Jade gives you nothing.

I don’t think I’ll ever understand why some people get so bent out of shape when a gymnast doesn’t look like a dancer. If the dance piece is what you’re looking for, why not just watch actual dancers?
Her tumbling was out of this world, it reminds me of Raisman’s Floor at London 2012 but the dance moves and the rest of the routine was so lifeless and automatic… but her difficulty still stood up for that. Well deserved.

Jade Carey is so talented, but what are her choreographer and coach doing??? I know she's capable of more. I am happy she won a medal don't get me wrong, but it frustrates me that this floor routine choreography is basically just her doing poses. Floor should be more than just tumbling. But that's my personal opinion. Hopefully they can work out a better routine for her please!

Jade found a style of floor choreography that works for HER. She's a tumbler, not a dancer, and she makes it work. She's also clearly a music fan, and chose beautiful music and has much better musicality than most American gymnasts. I love it, and I never get tired of watching it. It's fine that you don't enjoy it, but her coaches aren't leading her astray, they're working with her abilities and doing it very well.
Jade is 21 and has always struggled with artistry. It's pretty clear that she cannot perform a routine like Ferrari, Murakami, or Melnikova. So her coaches focused on building her difficulty, since that was her strength, and found choreography that suited her. This routine was quite a bit better than previous routines, which says something about how much she struggles in that area. It's also a weird double standard because nobody says "oh she should just increase her difficulty," like it's an easy thing, when you see a routine like Eythora Thorsdottir's with gorgeous artistry and not quite the tumbling to match. (Actually, I just described the whole Dutch team.)
Do I wish that Jade had gone the Aly Raisman route and picked music that could have carried her a bit better? Sure - Aly is probably the best example of a gymnast who lacked natural artistry and managed to work around it, but Jade likely isn't comfortable with music like Hava Nagila or Kalinka, so she found something that worked.
She had it going on when it counted and she deserved it.

She has her own style, you guys expect all the gymnasts to be like Russian and Romanian, the dance is slow, you can see it, and it’s contemporary. And she had the best tumbling of all the competitors, and of course, the most difficult routine. Well deserved ♥️

She was super duper nervous in her performance and it showed because she was almost mechanical. But coming from the previous day's vault, it's understandable. Wonder what her dad and coach told her, but his support was quite the boost she needed. I will save this to come back to it for inspiration. Do it afraid but do it anyway.

Her father knows what he's doing and they play to her strengths. I'm sure work has been put in on her artistry to try and improve but it's not her strength and that's ok. I still enjoyed the whole routine. It suits her.
